8 Products for Preventing and Healing Damaged Hair

I have probably had every hair color you can think of: blonde (my natural color), brunette, hot pink, cherry red, lavender, white, dark purple, coral, and even black hair. A few years ago, I was changing my hair every two weeks because I loved experimenting with my look, but along with changing color comes a lot of damage and a lot of hair cut appointments to get rid of dead ends.

Thankfully throughout my drastic hair coloring changes, I had amazing hairdressers who would recommend products to help restore my hair and prevent my hair from breaking further. If you’re suffering from damaged or weak hair from over processing or using hot tools, try these products to kick start your luscious lady locks back into healthy shape!

This styling product not only helps protect your hair from hot tool damage, but it also helps seal hair cuticles so you get a smooth straight finish after blow drying hair. Dimethicone is the main ingredient—it helps protect hair from heat and humidity, adds shine, reduces frizz, and seals the hair for a soft style with body and movement.

How to use: You can apply coconut oil on wet or dry hair, but I’ve found that it’s easier to apply on wet hair. Take a tablespoon of coconut oil and rub in hands to warm, then apply to hair from root to tip and massage into scalp. Let sit for 30-45 minutes to penetrate hair. Then shampoo and condition hair regularly. You can also try this homemade mask with a coconut oil base.
