8 Products for Preventing and Healing Damaged Hair

8 Products for Preventing and Healing Damaged Hair #theeverygirl

I have probably had every hair color you can think of: blonde (my natural color), brunette, hot pink, cherry red, lavender, white, dark purple, coral, and even black hair. A few years ago, I was changing my hair every two weeks because I loved experimenting with my look, but along with changing color comes a lot of damage and a lot of hair cut appointments to get rid of dead ends.

Thankfully throughout my drastic hair coloring changes, I had amazing hairdressers who would recommend products to help restore my hair and prevent my hair from breaking further. If you’re suffering from damaged or weak hair from over processing or using hot tools, try these products to kick start your luscious lady locks back into healthy shape!

1. It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Plus Keratin Spray

It’s a 10 products are known for formulas that help the hair in 10 different ways. This leave in product is infused with Panthenol and Vitamin C, which are highly effective strengtheners; Sunflower Seed Extract is a natural sunscreen; Green Tea Leaf Extract is a powerful antioxidant that protects hair from environmental damage; Silk Amino Acids restore the hair's natural moisture balance while strengthening and adding shine.

How to use: There are a variety of ways to use this product. After a shower, spray wet hair all over with this product to detangle and then leave in to condition the hair. Also, you can combine this product with an in-shower conditioner for softening hair. Or even use it instead of a conditioner prior to blow drying or using other hot tools to protect against damage and also add shine. Another tip is to use this product to tame fly-aways in a ponytail or bun.

2. Moroccan Oil Treatment

Moroccan Oil products are infused with antioxidant rich Argan oil that boosts shine and helps nourish hair. This treatment also contains vitamins that help restore damaged hair. By using this treatment, you will not only speed up drying time but also condition hair while adding luster.

How to use: This treatment can be used as a conditioning, styling, and finishing tool. Apply 1-2 pumps into clean, towel-dried hair from mid-length to ends of hair. Blow dry hair or let it dry naturally and you will see and feel the difference! You can also apply on dry hair to tame fly-aways, condition split ends, smooth hair, and add more shine.

3. Bumble and Bumble Straight Blow Dry

This styling product not only helps protect your hair from hot tool damage, but it also helps seal hair cuticles so you get a smooth straight finish after blow drying hair. Dimethicone is the main ingredient—it helps protect hair from heat and humidity, adds shine, reduces frizz, and seals the hair for a soft style with body and movement.

How to use: Distribute evenly throughout damp hair from root to tips and blow dry in sections. Use a flat brush for a sleek straight look or a round brush for more body.

4. Nexxus Promend Heat Protecting Mist

This product is infused with flax seed oil and packed with antioxidants that help promote radiance and resilience while helping to shield hair from heat styling damage. It also helps protect against dryness and breakage.

How to use: Spray product onto damp or dry hair and comb through before blow drying or using any hot tools.

5. Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask

This product is infused with three naturally derived extracts that help soften hair strands from the inside out. Olive penetrates the center, meadowfoam seed moisturizes the middle, and sweet almond wraps the surface of each strand to help heal damaged, dry hair.

How to use: After shampooing hair, apply a small amount of this mask to wet hair, concentrating on the ends. Let it sit for 3-5 minutes and then rinse. You can use this once a week or as often as needed for deep hydration.

6. Moroccan Oil Restorative Hair Mask

Infused with high performance proteins, this hair mask penetrates the inside of each strand to help restore hair’s elasticity and shine that have been damaged from chemical treatments or heat styling. It also contains shea butter and Argan oil that help deeply moisturize the hair.

How to use: After shampooing, apply a generous about of this mask to towel dried hair and comb through from root to tip. Leave on 5-7 minutes then rinse. After rinsing, use a conditioner to help seal in the mask. If you have extremely coarse hair, combine approximately 1 teaspoon of the Moroccan Oil treatment for added shine and elasticity.

7. Aveda’s Damage Remedy Intensive Restructuring Treatment

Aveda is known for using high performance plant based natural ingredients in their products. This product is a treatment packed with quinoa protein that strengthens damaged and chemically treated hair. It also contains jojoba oil, which helps promote a healthy shine. Aveda has a whole damage remedy line that is perfect for anyone suffering from damaged hair.

How to use: After shampooing, apply a generous amount evenly throughout damp hair from roots to ends. Let sit for a few minutes and then rinse thoroughly.

8. Coconut Oil Hair Treatments

Coconut oil is a natural remedy used by many women for centuries in tropical regions where coconut palms grow to help promote healthy hair. Coconut oil not only adds shine and luster, it also helps significantly reduce protein loss in hair and scalp inflammation, like dandruff.

How to use: You can apply coconut oil on wet or dry hair, but I’ve found that it’s easier to apply on wet hair. Take a tablespoon of coconut oil and rub in hands to warm, then apply to hair from root to tip and massage into scalp. Let sit for 30-45 minutes to penetrate hair. Then shampoo and condition hair regularly. You can also try this homemade mask with a coconut oil base.
