Coffee Talk: Do you shop for yourself around the holidays?

The Everygirl_Christmas Shopping

Anthro candle and some great perfume for Mom? Check.
New wallet for your brother? Check.
Book about World War II for Dad? Check.

What’s that? Half-priced wedges, you say? Discounted cashmere? Silk blouses on sale?! Don’t mind if I do….

When it comes to the holidays, some folks can resist the urge to shop for themselves. And they might deserve a medal of honor. During the season of giving, it’s hard not to enjoy the receiving. (And who knows better what we want as gifts than, well, us?)

The Everygirl wants to know, what’s in your shopping cart around the holidays? Are they chock-full of bestowals for friends and family? Or do you sneak in a few gifts-for-moi?

I always shop for myself during the Holidays. How can you not when there are such amazing deals!?

  • http://twitter.com/nikkirap Nikki Rappaport

Ack yeah I bought more things for myself on Saturday than anyone else. I need to focus!

  • designRoundup

Yes, I deserve a few giftsa after dealing with parking and other shoppers! ;-)

  • Chloe Moon

I’m so guilty of this like it’s disgusting…I buy one as a gift and then one for me…Ugh…I have to break this lil habit for the next years! =)

I tend to shop for myself.  I try to separate the two — I have a budget for gifts, and a budget for myself, and I make separate trips so I don’t muddle the two.  But there are such amazing deals this time of year, how can I pass up on those amazing boots?

I am one of those blessed souls who always find something for myself while shopping for my friends and family.  It certainly doesn’t hurt the situation with friends as we tend to have the same shopping and indulgence patterns.  Bliss   Spa gift set for two girlfriends, and Bliss Spa gift card at a fraction of the price for me, but of course ;)

I have to admit…I can’t help shopping for myself around the holidays! There are just too many good deals/sales/discounts going on not to. Luckily my list of people to give gifts to isn’t very big anyway. haha

I’m constantly shopping. Most of my family members are difficult to buy for, but I know what I like! So far this Christmas season, I’ve bought things for my home, cardigans and shoes for myself — oh! and I’ve managed to check off a few of those family members who already have everything.  ;-)

The sales make it so hard! I’ve been sticking to buying things for my other favorite person to buy for: my husband. :)

All my black friday shopping was for me…oops!

  • Cristina

I definitely shop for myself during the holidays. Mostly because I am taking advantage of deals on things I’ve been wanting all year but never go on sale until the holidays!

Oh I absolutely shop for myself. In fact the only person who has gifts this holiday season, so far… is me.

I used to buy myself stuff around Christmas, but it’s been cut back significantly in recent years. I used to shop until there was no more room on my credit card (oops). Now I plan my spending, and assign each person or set of people a pay period in which I shop for them (I start in November). When I get asked what I want for Christmas, I’ll tell people in detail about the pretty things in the stores that have caught my eye (hello Aritzia sweaters and Lululemon). It makes Christmas lower stress for them because they don’t have to guess, and I get the things I want without breaking the bank! :)

I’ve switched this year to do the exact same thing.  I never shopped till there was no more room on my card, but I certainly spent way too much on gifts.  Assigning pay periods makes sure I get everything without overburdening myself near the end.

That red coat is adorable! Any idea where it’s from?!

Absolutely. The deals are amazing and the holiday cheer in stores/online is too tempting! I budget wisely so that it doesn’t affect my wallet too much!

  • Amanda Etty

Busted! I always buy myself a treat or two when I’m Christmas shopping. That or a hot chocolate!

  • Victoria Ngo

I love shopping for others during the holidays, but I always end up getting myself a little something for all the stresses of gift-shopping.

I was always so good at this… but then I went a little crazy this year. Whoops!

  • http://daydreamer-alifestyleblog.blogspot.com/ Jackie Saffert

I don’t usually but I am SO tempted to this year. I want a new guitar. Or a new bag. Or a new camera. Or all three. :)

  • http://fancyfunction.wordpress.com/ Christine @Fancy Function

Yes, I can’t help myself! But I always try to find good deals if possible. :)

  • Stephanie

Isn’t that a physics law or something – I mean when I go shopping for others I happen to find so many perfect items for myself and in my size (of course the opposite of it is also true – when I’m specifically shopping for myself I can’t find anything or it’s not in my size).

  • http://hotmesscoolday.wordpress.com/ Lindsay @ Hot Mess, Cool Day

I TRY not to because my husband gets so upset when I buy myself something he already got me. It happens near every birthday and Christmas! I DO always get myself something to wear to my family’s Christmas Eve celebration though!

It’s so hard to not shop for yourself! All of the Christmas sales are just to good to pass up. I definitely have to restrain myself sometimes(especially when it’s clothes) but I always know I feel 100% better if I buy for other people and donate the rest. Seeing the joy on my friends faces from a present I picked out is much better than opening a cardboard box witha  plastic bag full of clothes for myself.
