Coffee Talk: How Do You Unwind After a Rough Day?

Theeverygirl_CoffeeTalk_Unwind

You missed your alarm, didn’t have time to shower, and arrived over an hour late to work, only to have your boss berate you in front of co-workers. To top it off, you received last month’s credit card statement that seems to have one too many zero’s. We’ve all had those days where nothing goes right but it’s important to have a way to cope with stress and let go of any frustration. Some relax with yoga. Others curl up on the couch with a furry friend and indulge in a generous glass of wine. Does a soothing bubble bath with a lavender candle do the trick? We want to know, what are your tried and true methods to put a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day behind you?

A glass of red wine and a long, hot bath normally put me back in the right frame of mind.

I second this! Only white wine for me:)

Any sort of hot drink (tea, hot chocolate, even coffee!), a bubble bath, and a magazine that I don’t have to think to hard to read.  :)

Hit the gym and then completely veg out with my DVR.

A cup of TWG tea, sometimes alone time, sometimes dinner with my girl friends, an episode of Grey’s Anatomy, How I Met Your Mother or The Carrie Diaries. :)

    Wine always does the trick!

  • Chloe Moon

Reading a good book in bed with a big glass of fizzy moscato does the trick!! =)

I almost always crash onto the couch or into bed with one of my favorite TV shows — something I don’t have to think too hard about but I know will make me  smile.

Red wine + couch + movies with my husband.  It’s amazing how alcohol has the ability to relax me.

Curling up with a glass of wine and a good book after a long shower always does the trick!
    Isn’t That Charming.

Last night I did a candlelit yoga session when I got home. Even though my mind was racing the whole time, by the time I was done, I was smiling again.

Depending on the situation I usually come in the door, change my clothes and play with my two little girls. Their laughter and joy is always infectious and I can’t help but perk up and be in a better mood.

I love to light a candle, make a cup of coffee or tea and curl up with a good book or magazine.

My boyfriend doing crazy faces always puts me back into a good mood !

A cup of coffee and trashy tv. I always feel better about myself after watching the housewives/Kardashians for a while:)

  • LolaZabeth

A hot cup of valerian root tea always does the trick (Yogi has some good varieties with it). My mood becomes lifted within a few sips, seriously. It also helps my brain slow down and stop running laps so that I can slowly slide into a good night’s sleep.

Re-runs of Downtown Abbey (Season 1 before things started falling apart) is a great way to brush the dust off of an otherwise lousy day.

  • Chanelle Bessette

A delicious craft bock and an episode of a funny TV show (like 30 Rock or How I Met Your Mother) while snuggling with my boyfriend.

Honestly, Im still in the stage of figuring out what works best for me. So far, coffee seems to be working its magic for me. I will start doing some of the suggestions below to see if it works :)

  • Jay

A long hot bubble bath and a good glass of red wine will loosen out the stress knots right out! That or curling up under cozy blankets with a good book that I can lose myself in for a few hours.

I treat myself to a little something, either a glass of wine or organic chocolate milk (because apparently I’m five years old), or an at-home mani-pedi.

  • Barb

I find that a good long dog walk can usually clear my head…but if that doesn’t work, wine always does!!!

  • http://twitter.com/ClarissaFidler Clarissa Fidler

Sipping hot chocolate, cuddling my kitty, watching an episode of Friends.

Perfect timing! This has been my morning. I’m a big fan of chocolate and mind-numbing baby animal roundups, but lately, I’ve been obsessed with Kid President’s pep talk: http://www.collegiatecook.com/2013/01/7-things-to-get-you-through-the-week/

  • http://thecornerapartment.com/ Elizabeth @ TheCornerApartment

A few cups of Zen Tazo hot tea, my favorite Philosophy lotion and The New Yorker or a good book on my Kindle. This actually happens every day, not just on bad days! I’m all about simple indulgences.

I like to go on a nice long hike if I have the time or I catch up on some funny tv shows.

  • Marjorie

I take a HOT shower, make some tea and then curl up with a coloring book and a box of 64 colors. all the bright colors really help me relax and cheer up.

  • Josie Morris

I do red wine + bath. Or red wine + t.v. Or just red wine. See a trend? lol. I use to do yoga but then I got lazy and fat so there went that lol.

I love that wooden plank across a bath idea

I’ll make myself go to the gym to get the stress out and then I’ll get in PJs straight out of the shower and enjoy all of my recorded TV shows! Comedies always cheer me up!

  • http://livingmylifeasiknowit.wordpress.com/ Christina Tamm

I head straight for a bubble bath, no lights on in the bathroom just candles, a glass of wine and relaxation.. This is an often go to for me.. About 2 -3 times a week!

  • http://hisandherscene.wordpress.com/ hisandherscene

Curled up on the sofa in pjs with a good old tub of Ben and Jerry’s and some trashy tv with a big cuppa swiftly followed by a large glass of wine! x

  • Nadine

I walk my dogs for an hour or two. To see them run around care free and how they just enjoy the moment, not worrying about tomorrow or even the next split second is immensely helpful!

  • http://anoreastern.wordpress.com/ Madeline

A tough workout, hot shower, and healthy food usually balance me back out.

  • peachpie

I tell the dogs they need to take Mama for a walk.  Fast.

  • Amie Mares

All of these are great suggestions! A few things that work for me are going for a long run at the gym with my ipod, and calling my mom to vent (she always gives great work advice). And a great alternative to a glass of wine is a big glass of pomegranate juice.

Working out.  Does the trick absolutely every single time.

  • Catherine Ahern

Depends on the type of rough day… If I’m just exhausted after a long day, I’ll grab something easy for dinner, pour myself a glass of wine, and curl up on my couch to read some blogs. If it’s the kind of day that actually makes me want to cry, I throw on some running clothes and hit the pavement.

  • http://www.floralandfrayed.com/ Margaret Barley

Usually after a hard day the last thing I want to do is work out, but I’m getting in the habit of forcing myself to do a cardio workout after a long day. It loosens up my muscles and helps shake my bad mood. Then I make some tea and crash on the couch!

  • when we wander

A glass of wine and a funny TV show always lifts my spirits!
