Coffee Talk: The Icky Life of Pets

At The Everygirl, nothing brings us greater joy than walking in the door and being greeted by our animal companions (even if we only stepped out to get the mail). Whether you have a Burmese or beagle, parakeet or chinchilla, it’s the furry friends that transform houses into homes. But it goes without saying, sometimes being a pet owner is difficult—and sometimes downright… icky. All pets make or leave behind messes, especially in the first few months. Waking up to the sound of your cat vomiting in the middle of the night conveniently on your rug–that’s a fun one. Or having your pup decide he’s jealous of your new boyfriend so he starts marking the apartment as his territory–we like to call this “terripooping”–that’s another gem. And sometimes the messes they make are a daily issue depending on the season–ie muddy paws from the spring thaw.

Whether your dog left a sneaky present that results in a “shoop” (shoe full of poop) or your cat climbed on the counter after taking a trip to the litter box leaving behind poo prints, there are a few items we’ve found are essential to have on hand. First, a good pair of rubber gloves. Second, a cleaner you trust that eliminates odor, stains, and disinfects. Lastly, it’s always good to have paper towels or the easy and forever useful Clorox Disinfecting Wipes to reach for quickly.

We love our animals, but don’t always love the messes they make in our lives. Fortunately, the stories sometimes end up rather funny. And we like to think they are slowly preparing us for the dirty jobs that come along with motherhood. So spill—what is the most cringe-worthy experience you’ve encountered because of your pet? Have you come up with a funny word to describe said occurrence? What products do you rely on for messes or removing stains and odor? And last but not least, is owning a pet worth the sometimes icky disasters they make in your home?
