We were so happy that you went wild for our first guide of Fashion Essentials, a curation of clothing and accessories every twenty-something should own. In a world dominated by “need it now” fashion trends and shiny new objects, it can be tough to sift through it all to discover what’s worth the investment. Bradley Agather, author of style blog Luella and June, is back with a second dose of Fashion Essentials!

In continuing to help you build a foundation of on-trend yet functional pieces, we’ve hand-picked more go-to pieces that won’t lose their luster from season to season. As before, there are two pricing options for the pieces you love, but don’t want to shell out your hard-earned dollars on just yet. Browse and shop by budget or investment pricing, and be sure to flip through the photos (hello, eye candy!) and let us know what you think in the comments below. Are there any essentials you think we should add to this list? What’s the must-have item that you pay top dollar for?

The Shoes

Statement Shoes
Add a splash of color to your LBD with a pair of statement heels. Break them out and strut on special occasions, but remember that comfort is key.

Summer Heels
Ah, that time of year when your toes break free and you can indulge in a pedicure! Summer heels make showing off those sun-kissed legs so much more appealing, plus they match well with shorts for a day full of meetings or brunch with girlfriends. We spring for lighter shades of leather like white and tan or a well-constructed wedge.

Rain Boots
There’s only so many pairs of shoes a woman will ruin before swallowing her pride and purchasing rain boots. Available in a variety of styles and lengths, these lightweight saviors will have you puddle jumping without worry. Tip: store under your desk at work.

The Clothes

Red Dress
You’ve got an uber-chic LBD and LWD…isn’t it high time for an LRD – Little Red Dress – to join the ranks? This dress will be your showstopper. Whether it’s a fiery vermilion or deep burgundy, identify the shade of red that works best for you and get ready to sizzle.

Nice Blouse
A silk blouse dresses up your denim and adds fun dimension to standard office attire. Worth the dry-cleaning bill, a rotation of these tops in solid colors and vintage patterns is a trusty uniform.

White Button-Down
This ultra-classic staple is a foundation of any wardrobe: it looks just as good with boyfriend jeans as it does with a floral pencil skirt. Pay close attention to the fit, as it can make or break the shirt’s longevity. For a glam extra, button all the way up and put on a collar necklace.

Black Pants
A pair of black cropped pants are a sleek solution to your workwear woes. Whether they have a subtle flare or run skinny, these will pair perfectly with any top in your closet (see ASAP: Nice Blouses) and work wonders for your figure.

White Pants
White trousers will give your trusty black pants some much deserved time off. Match with a classic striped shirt and espadrilles to lengthen your silhouette. PS: Who says you have to stop wearing white after Labor Day? We believe in wintry white!

Rain Coat
A cute anorak or sophisticated rain trench will have you sighing in relief the next time you wake up on a rainy day. It also protects your well-invested workwear.

Nightgown
Fact: you’ll sleep better if you’re dressed to the nines! For the evenings when you want to ditch your college tees and feel pretty, prance around in a frilly nightgown.

Pajamas
Just because you’re a grown-up by society’s standards doesn’t mean you can’t have a set of pajamas fit for a slumber party! Lately, we’re loving a pajama top paired with skinny jeans and heels for a luxe daytime look.

Bathing Suit
Whether you sport an itsy bitsy bikini or a retro one-piece, pay attention to the suit’s small details like ruching or detachable straps so you’ll feel like your best self in the water and on the beach. Remember to rinse after every swim to make it last.

The Accessories

Wallet
With all the loyalty, rewards, IDs, and credit cards you’ve collected, a zip-around wallet is essential. These large wallets are worthy of a place in your day bag or as a carry-along to yoga class or a casual dinner. Tip: select one in a surprising hue so you can easily spot it while digging for it!

Tote Bag
Everyone needs a “throw everything in it” bag that’s equal parts chic and take-anywhere. Investing in a well-crafted leather tote is worth it; the bag will only grow more refined and well worn over years of wear.

Statement Jewelry
Let’s face it: you’re busy and need jewelry that will bring the “wow” factor without a lot of work. A bright statement necklace lends a punchy touch to any neutral and instantly adds polished to any ensemble.

Cocktail Ring
You deserve a go-to bauble that’s as over the top and unique as you are! Do your research and pick a cocktail ring that feels uniquely yours, whether it’s a gem, monogram, or vintage find.

Warm Scarf
A toasty scarf ups the cozy factor ten-fold during autumn and winter! We suggest having two: one that’s bright and patterned and one that’s a classic neutral, like heather grey.

Silk Scarf
For the days where you have a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear, a simple silk scarf can easily up the ante from drab to fab. With all the ways to tie a scarf or turban, why not sport one on your next Casual Friday?

Luggage
You’re over the L.L. Bean duffel from college (may it RIP). For business trips and faraway vacations, a sturdy piece of luggage on wheels will go the distance. A suitcase with a hardback will endure more trips through the conveyer belt and store your clothes with less wrinkling.

These are my favorite features! I love your selections; there were quite a few pieces in both the budget and splurge categories that are really, really tempting me …

Oddly enough, I like several of the “to get by” pieces more than the investment pieces. However, I will admit that I will forever love a rainy day solely because I can whip out the shiny red Hunters and there is no better silk blouse out there than Equipment’s version. The TopShop LRD, the orange silk pajama set, the Target swimsuit and the Bauble Bar necklaces are darling with a cute price tag to match!

Great part two to the popular first set of wardrobe necessities. Couldn’t agree more about the white button down. I own one too many. One thing I think you could substitute the LRD for is a LPD…a hot pink number that makes you feel extra feminine. I may have to concoct a list of my own for my blog!!

As someone in my 20s, I loved Part 1 and am happy to see that Part 2 is equally awesome. Plus, the “Real women wear nightgowns” headline actually made me laugh out loud…and want to expand my nightgown collection!

i don’t know who designed this website but what struck me was how well organized it is. i also like the idea of “to get by” and “to invest” – it communicates a budget conscious but still fashion centered approach to a modern girl’s life. well done.
