We realize that "The Everygirl at fashion week" sounds like a bit of an oxymoron. After all, we tend to forgo trendy purchases in lieu of styles that can carry us from one season into the next. But when an invitation came to attend the rewardStyle Top Influencers Party the Saturday night of Fashion Week, we couldn't help join in for a few other fashion-related activities on our trip to the Big Apple.

Like always, we woke up at 3:30am on Thursday morning to catch the first flight out from Chicago's Midway to LaGuardia via Southwest Airlines–our favorite airline considering it's one of the few left where bags fly free. During our four days in NYC, we stayed at the Affinia Manhattan located in Midtown. While it's not the most charming neighborhood on the expansive island, it is right in the heart of the city, making it easy and affordable to get around. The accommodations were lovely–friendly staff, two plush beds complete with Sferra throws, Philosophy products in the bathroom, and a view any New York tourist could only dream of. Added bonus: there's a Starbucks across the street and a sandwich shop on the corner.

After checking in to the hotel early Thursday, we ventured off for brunch at a darling cafe in Murray Hill, Penelope, that came highly recommended from friends. After re-energizing (clearing both our plates) we darted off to a shoot with Kathleen McFeeters of Ali Ro, maker of the best darn anoraks you ever did see (and some pretty fabulous cocktail dresses to boot!). Stay tuned for that feature!

In the evening, we embarked on our first Fashion's Night Out experience, joining the seasoned FNO vet Taylor Sterling of Glitter Guide. We've "known" Taylor for a while now having worked with her quite a bit (here, here, and here). Truth be told–she's even sweeter than you could imagine. We headed south to the Meatpacking District to attend QVC's event; there we saw Jennifer Hudson, Nicole Richie, and met both fashion illustrator Dallas Shaw (featured here) and fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi (also extremely friendly). After the event, the three of us joined Erin Hiemstra of Apartment 34 (featured here) for a late dinner and drinks at Fig and Olive (amazing food, not so amazing service). It was a long first day to say the least, so upon returning to the hotel circa 11:30pm, we were out as soon as our heads hit the pillows.

Day Two (Friday morning) started with the Kate Spade Spring/Summer 2013 presentation complete with neon pumps, sparkling wine, and several celeb sightings including Brad Goreski and Lauren Conrad. We also had the pleasure of meeting the queen of fashion blogging, Blair Eadie of Atlantic Pacific (fingers crossed you'll be reading her story on this site soon enough!). We had planned on meeting Taylor Sterling again, so after the colorful and very exciting Kate show, the three of us headed to the Le Pain Quotidien nearby for a bite before Taylor cabbed toward Lincoln Center and the two of us ventured off to Brooklyn to photograph Vanessa Holden, the Creative Director of West Elm. What was it like spending the afternoon with the woman and team responsible for half of the items in our homes? Lovely. It was absolutely lovely. The WE executive staff could not have been more gracious and down-to-earth, making the shoot a breeze and leaving us even more excited to share the feature with readers. While there, we also got a peek of what is to come next season aka holiday! (Get very excited.) Afterward, we found ourselves back in the Meatpacking District joining Jenna Fain of Look TV, Suzanne Schloot of Kate Spade, and Amy Preiser of Elle Decor for dinner and drinks at Pastis: Alaina's faaavorite NYC restaurant.

Saturday arrived along with our first trip to Lincoln Center, the home of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. We attended our first and only official runway show: Herve Leger by Max Azria. (The Kate Spade event was technically called a presentation: no catwalk required.) Granted it was probably 90 degrees in the tent, and Alaina had on sleeves and Danielle's feet were protesting against another day in heels, once the music kicked in and the show began, it became very clear why people get so excited for this week. Not to mention Max Azria and team hit this one out of the park! There are some spectacular designs in store (hoping they'll be on Rent the Runway giving us a chance to wear one next spring!). Then it was back to our hotel to quickly get ready for dinner at Marble Lane with Mackenzie of Design Darling, Liz of Sequins and Stripes, Sally and Molly of A Piece of Toast, and Bradley of Luella and June, followed by the rewardStyle event where we once again had the pleasure of chatting with the talented and inspiring Amber Venz, founder of rewardStyle (featured here), and more fashion bloggers than we could possibly link to!

Sunday was our final day in NYC. We slept in and got ready for a few hours of fun with our friend Liz before heading home. We did it up right: lunch at Rockefeller Plaza, a stroll in Central Park, and a quick stop at Momofuku for cereal milk ice cream (something you'd only ever find in New York City). It was relaxing, sunny, and perfect. While the whole NYFW was a bit of a Cinderella moment for us, we feel so lucky to have had another opportunity to run around one of our favorite cities together, catching up with friends, and adding more amazing memories to this whole adventure that's been The Everygirl. Thank you to everyone who helped make our week an experience to remember!
