This or That: Lips or Eyes

When we apply our makeup, we usually focus on either the lips or the eyes. They are the two features that demand the most attention. A bright, bold lip looks best with a nude eye, and dramatic, smokey eyes pair perfectly with a soft, subtle lip. Which feature do you like to showcase more? Do you love a vibrant lip or seductive eye?

    I definitely like to play my eyes a bit more, mostly because I think eyeshadow is fun to play with.

    I couldn’t pull off either of the dramatic looks pictured, but I’m more comfortable with a bold lip. Once I (finally!) found a flattering lip color for my skin tone, I didn’t look back. I never really learned how to do my own eye makeup … it’s on my 30-before-30 list, but I don’t know if it’ll get crossed off.

    I usually focus on my eyes and do a lighter lip. I like to put black liner on my top lids.

    In the past, eyes, but recently I’ve been all about the lip color with minimal eye makeup! A summer tan doesn’t hurt the effort either :)

    I’m with Carrie – I rarely even wear chapstick on my lips, but cannot leave the house without eyeliner!

    Without doing up my eyes, my entire face looks sleepy so I would have to go with the latter. As weird as it sounds though, I do love putting on a swipe of bold red lipstick at the beach as it makes me feel ultra glam. I’m free of all other makeup so the red really stands out. Just the sun on my skin and salt water in my hair!

    LIPS!!!! Once upon a time I played up the eyes, but with some many great lip shades trending now it is hard to resist.

    I love a pretty lipgloss, but I prefer to stay subtle on my lips and emphasize my eyes. Since I’m sipping coffee all morning long, I find it best not to rely on lip color!

    I have HUGE lips, so it’s not like they need more attention, but I love wearing bold lippies with simple winged liner for the eyes. I like to play with eyeshadows, but my morning routine usually doesn’t leave much time for that, so during the weekend I’m all about the eyes.

    I’m a “play up my eyes” girl! I have a really dark blue ring around the iris, and then green and gold flecks and people are always commenting on my eyes, so it’s fun to play them up!

    I’m pretty half and half in terms of what I highlight.  I love a deep, deep red (almost raisin colored) with a pale cream eyeshadow and mascara only.

    I generally play up my eyes but everyone in a while I like to play up the lips. It is very striking looking.

    I like to do a simple black cat eye with a bright fuchsia lip like the one pictured in the model to the left. The eye is simple enough to not distract from the lips, but the combo is like a modern pin-up!
