This or That: Neutral or Colorful Holiday Decor

theeverygirl_thisorthat_neutralorcolorful

It’s no secret that holidays are serious business at The Everygirl. For many of us, a holiday is just not complete without festive decorations displayed around the home. We all have different tastes when it comes to decorating, so we want to know, are you more of a classic garland, white lights, red bow kind of decorator? Or do you like to incorporate color when making your home cozy for the holidays?

I do a mix of the two– mostly neutral with winter whites and golds, but then I add in ONE color (last year it was turquoise!) for some flair.

I prefer COLOR as long as it’s tasteful. I’m not really into the blow-up lown ornaments or cartoons with holiday themes. The picture above is perfect. Sparkly, twinkly color.

I like colorful Christmas decor – the more the merrier!

I am drawn more towards the netural because it is easier to match with home decor.  But ever once in a while a girl needs a pop of color. ;-)

I am a color girl all the way!

I am all about COLOR!  This time of year is so festive and energetic, so neutral colors just don’t feel right to me.  To me, this is the one time of year you can border on tacky and get away with it, because it’s in the spirit of things.  I also celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah, so in order to make red/green and blue/silver all work together, I just go extra-extra.

Colorful! It’s the happiest time of the year, after all.

Usually I love green + red since it’s so synonymous with Christmas but lately I’ve been loving nontraditional color palettes for holiday decor! I think neutrals + subtle sparkle can be incredible elegant… I also just saw blue used very tastefully when decorating without losing that Christmas feel. I love color! This year I did purple and red, just to mix it up. So pretty together!

It varies, but I usually stay pretty close to the classics. I might shake it up to do silver and blue some years instead of white and red, but I don’t normally go technicolour.

I’ve always done the bright hot colors before they were popular, hot pink, lime green, yellow, purple, aqua blue and orange. This year I’m changing it up and going more neutral, champagne, cream and bright green.

I agree w/ Audrey, and am mostly neutral with silver & gold, with one extra color -red! I know I’m really going out on a limb with that one ;) but I’m a fan of traditional Christmas decor and tend to stick with it.

I’m all about the color! My Christmas color palette centers on pink, silver, and turquoise. I’m all about the vintage feel and I love tinsel!

It varies each year, but I’m all about non-traditional colors.  This year is the closest to traditional that I’ve ever done- Turquoise and silver.  Here are some photos- http://myersmaison.blogspot.com/2012/12/christmas-mantel.html

I love color so much. I was considering an all neutral setup on our medicine cabinet, but I don’t know if I can forgo all color. I might just have use a mix of both because I love this idea of winter white, silver and gold. Especially where it’s 80 in Florida, an all neutral pallet will make it feel more wintery.

It depends what I’m in the mood for this year. Last year it was all about color. This year I’m feeling a Winter Wonderland theme coming on. So lots of white, silvers, with pops of Blues around the house.

    Neutrals

My natural style is neutral golds and silvers, but I have so many great colorful vintage ornaments from my grandparents that I can’t not put them out! They usually make an appearance in pretty dishes or vases.

I love colourful decorations.  Reminds me of my childhood ornaments.

For lights, I prefer white lights, because then you can have fun with color without it being overwhelming.  This year I have been doing red, green and gold, my apartment is mostly decorated in jewel tones and with this color combo the decorations have turned out gorgeous!

  • Lauren

I prefer the neutral colors…you can always add pops of color throughout!

    Color Color Color!

I would love a neutral and metallic scheme, but my boyfriend loves colored lights.  Right now our tree has colored lights, and red and silver ornaments.

  • Rachael Roberts

A little of both but not colors that are too bright

Neutral all the way – whites, golds, silvers.
