This or That: Night Owl or Early Riser

TheEverygirl_ThisOrThat_NightOrMorning

While some of us can spring out of bed at the first alarm, others have a deep appreciation for the snooze button and instead find our energy and inspiration long after the sun sets. Work, school, and other obligations largely influence our sleep patterns but some of the most creative and successful individuals of our generation serve as proof that productivity can come at any time, day or night. Are you a night owl or an early riser?

I’m cursed by being both — I want to stay up late AND get up early!

I totally feel your pain, Rebecca!

      • Reece

I’m so there as well. My true inspiration comes after midnight but my 8-5 demands otherwise…

I was a night owl up until I graduate from college. Now, with a full time job that starts at 8:30, I’m usually wide awake in the morning and tired by 9pm. Waking up at the same time each day made the switch way easier than I had thought.

I used to be a night owl! Now I go to bed at like 8 and wake up at 5! I blame work for that…

  • Kylie Cooper

    Early riser!

I get up early for work 6-7 days a week, so I am used to going to bed around 9:30 and getting up at 6. Even when I have a day off, I’m up and stirring before the birds!

    Night owl :)

  • Alyssa Gapske

There’s times on the weekend when I want to be a night owl but I’m totally an early riser. It changed for me when I started working in college. Now I can rarely stay up past 10 p.m. or sleep in past 8 a.m.!

I’m neither, I just want to sleep all the time! But I guess if it really comes down to it, I’m more of an early riser, I’m useless when I’m sleepy at night.

Work aside, I would definitely be a night owl. But right now, I’m more of a middle of the day kind of person, haha.

  • http://answertheunasked.blogspot.com/ JMill

    I rock a mean 10 AM.

  • Alison Daughters

Night owl for sure! I want to be a morning person, and have tried so many times to make myself one, but alas, it’s just not in my nature.

  • Rosa Joseph

Neither? My peak hours are 10am-4pm. But in all seriousness, if I need to be most productive, I would rather get up really early than stay up all night.

  • Mariakristina Melgarejo

    Night owl for sure

  • Vicki Archer

    I’m a night owl!…unfortunately mornings are not my thing!…xv

I’m a night owl for sure. My most productive times of day are after dinner (8pm to 11pm) or early afternoon (1pm to 3pm). I’m totally useless before 10am. I thought my previous law firm job would’ve changed that but unless I had something due in the morning or a 9am court appearance, I rarely did any work before 10. It’s taken me 31 years to accept that I’m not a wake-up-and-get-to-work type of person. Good thing I’m self-employed now!!

  • Arsh

I’m an early riser, love the morning sunshine!

  • http://twitter.com/ClarissaFidler Clarissa Fidler

I’ve always wished I was an early riser but I’m just not. I love sleeping in too much. I have a very dysfunctional relationship with my snooze button.

  • http://mtadams1208.wordpress.com/ Kathy

I’ve always wanted to be an early riser but I am quite the night owl, especially going to night school after work the past few years. I am almost finished with that so hopefully when I am back to 8-5 only, I can finally become a morning person. I say this, but I don’t want to give up my evenings to get it…

  • Rebecca Ann

I am definitely a night owl!  I hope that changes after I graduate and get a job!

Early riser! There is something about the energy in the morning as the sun is coming up.

  • Janet

I’m an early bird! It’s a blessing (I get to swim laps by myself) and a curse (I’m ready for bed by 9). But my dad always said “up with the sun”!!

  • BrittanyWeeks

I’m definitely an early riser. I’ve always been. i’m awake and energized the entire day but by 9:30 maybe 10 I’m ready for bed.

  • http://twitter.com/AnnaRathgeber Anna

I`m an early riser and glad I am, but lately I`ve been staying up longer than I should have and it definitely made me really tired thoughout the day.

  • http://steelpetalpress.com/ Shayna Norwood

Night owl! Always have been, always will be. I can train myself to wake up early when I need to, but if I spend anytime outside of a set schedule, my body’s natural rhythms always revert back to staying up late and sleep in.

  • http://steelpetalpress.com/ Shayna Norwood

    me too!

  • kaitlin

It depends on what I have to do the next day and what’s on my mind. Also, if I take a pre-workout drink after 6 PM, it’s a sure thing I’ll be up all night scouring Pinterest. In my dream world, I’d be an early riser at all times!

  • Danielle

I’ve always been an early riser, but I do occasionally like to stay up late if I can.

I’m more of a night owl…Trying to get better at getting up early though!

  • http://www.blogcurator.blogspot.com/ dervla @ the curator

complete night owl…i do my best work after midnight. I love looking out the window when most of the neighborhood is asleep and know that my brain is churning with new ideas!

  • when we wander

I’m totally a night owl. Despite my best attempts at transforming myself into an early bird, I’ve  yet to be successful. I would love to be someone who hardly needs an alarm and is happy to get out of bed in the morning!

  • Samantha Peterson

I’m a night owl by far, but of course, if I went to bed at a decent time I’m sure I could pull off being an early riser. Habits are hard to break! Wishing I could find good tips to getting right out of bed vs. hitting snooze five times!

  • Barb

For some reason, I have always been someone who can jump out of bed as soon as the alarm goes off (drives the bf crazy lol!).  I am definitely the most productive, work wise, in the morning, and find that I can get more work done in the morning than I can the entire rest of the day!

  • Raquel Running

as much as I love to sleep, I get the most work done betweetn 7 and 9/10am!

  • Elle Ramirez

I’m definitely an early riser! There is just something about the colder crisp morning that just gets me so focused and excited for the day!

  • Katherine Nolden

Night owl! I’ve tried and tried to wake up early but I think I better just embrace my ‘owlness’

  • FreckleFace

I am an early riser and I feel most productive if I get everything done by 2pm. I like going to sleep early but that goes with my upbringing.

  • Lorelei80

Night time is the right time for just about everything except sleeping. Nothing beats the sleep you get between 3:00 AM and 10:00 AM, especially on a nice sunny morning! That’s how I prefer it anyway, but my job likes me there 8-ish so the sad reality is bed between 1:30-2:30 AM and up about 6:30 AM. Sunday is for sleeping in!

  • Cecelia Harrison

I’m an early riser. My most productive hours are between 9am and 2 pm

  • Julspiritu

I would probably consider myself as a night owl. I like working late!
