My Week of Outfits: Emily Tebbetts, Business Coach and Photographer

I hated my body for years, and I spent all of those years hiding behind loose t-shirts, sweatshirts, and leggings. I didn’t really “get” fashion, and I was such a perfectionist that I frequently decided I’d rather not try at all than try and fail at something I found intimidating.

It was only in the last year that I discovered true body positivity, began going to therapy, found Health at Every Size and Intuitive Eating, began unpacking my most deeply held beliefs, and slowly began to truly love and accept myself just as I am in this moment.

As I’ve gone through this incredible process of coming home to myself, I’ve discovered a new freedom to play — to try things out, to express myself without fear of being seen or failing. One of the ways that’s manifested is with fashion! I’ve been deeply relishing the feeling that I’m enough — whether I’m in sweatpants with greasy hair, or dressed to the nines with my fave lipstick on.

I’d describe my style as centered around what feels good on my body and what makes me feel happy. Since I work from home 95% of the time, I have the luxury of wearing whatever I want to! I wear mostly simple pieces, and I tend to re-wear things like pants and shoes often. It can be difficult to find things I like in my size since I’m plus-sized, so I’m glad that a lot of brands are starting to extend their sizes — hopefully more will take note and become more inclusive soon!

My favorite staple item is my red lipstick — it makes me feel a little extra vibrant! I’ve only recently begun to incorporate more accessories in, like earrings, and that’s been fun! But I really love that I don’t feel like I need to go all out every day.

Monday

I love this outfit for a chill day spent hanging around the house and running errands. Realistically, I’m barefoot when I’m home, but these are my go-to shoes whenever I leave the house! They’re comfy and cute and go with pretty much everything!

Tuesday

I LOVE being by the water and going to the beach, but I’ve spent the last five or so years of my life avoiding it due to how I felt about my body. It brings me SO much joy to be able to go to the beach or the pool and fully enjoy it now. It feels like a victory to be able to go out in a bikini and feel super comfortable about it without having had to try to manipulate my body first. I love this bikini because it feels like the perfect mix between sexy and cute. I’m a big fan of stripes, too! With the hat and the lipstick, I feel extra cute!

Wednesday

This outfit is one of my faves — I wore it while I was out doing some shopping. The black tank top and my favorite jeans make such a perfect staple outfit. It can stay super simple or be accessorized in pretty much any way you can think of, which I love! This day, I added pops of color like my bright yellow shoes, the pink patterned scarf, and red sunglasses with matching red lipstick to top it off.

Thursday

I got to spend some time with a couple friends at Salem Willows — there’s an open air arcade, homemade ice cream, popcorn, and a park by the ocean. It’s a super fun place to go with people you love! I kept things simple with a cute romper, sunglasses, and my favorite shoes. I love how how carefree and summery this romper looks, but I have to admit…. it’s not necessarily the best for skee-ball or trying to beat your friends at the basketball free throw station!

Friday

I snapped this right before grabbing dinner with a friend. I really like this outfit because it’s basic and super comfortable, but the headband, earrings, and lipstick add a little bit of cheery brightness to it! My favorite shoes came in handy again – I chose brown to keep the base of my outfit from looking too dark. My favorite thing about this outfit? The layers! Perfect for when the AC gets a little too cold when you’re out to dinner.
