Aww, I love Boston!  My husband and I went there for our honeymoon.  We ate dinner at the cutest restaurant called Upstairs on the Square.  It was awesome!

I’m so excited that you’re heading this way!  There are so many wonderful little places I love here in Boston. Here are a few highlights:
In Cambridge/Somerville: Diesel Cafe, Algier’s, Hi-Rise Bakery, Formaggio Kitchen, Sweet Cupcakes, Clover, Mint Julep (Boutique). In the North End: Cafe Vittoria, Mike’s Pastries, Modern Pastry, Express (for quick, affordable, and delicious Italian). In the South End and Central Square: Flour Bakery.

  • Laura Amandolare

I’ve lived in Boston for about 10 years – it’s a great city!  You should definitely check out Acquire in the North End, it’s one of my favorite home furnishing boutiques.  The South End has great restaurants and lots of little shops for clothing and home (try Reside, Hudson, and J.E.M).  Joanne Chang has an amazing bakery called Flour on Washington St. and also owns a restaurant with her husband called Myers & Chang which is delicious.  You should also try Coppa – Italian small plates – on Shawmut Ave.  Have a wonderful trip!

Neptune Oyster Bar in the North End!

  • http://curatingstyle.com/ Jess

That’s fantastic! Boston is one of my all time favorite places. My recommendations include Grendel’s Den, Henrietta’s Table, and Cambridge 1 (amazing pizza). Of course, Boston Commons is a must-see.

Ah, Boston.  I’m from MA and went to school there (I’ll get back someday…)!  If you’re in the mood for a crowded Jewish deli/restaurant (be prepared to wait a while, especially on a Sunday) check out Zaftig’s in Cleveland Circle!  Excellent challa.

  • http://alexinhighdef.blogspot.com/ Alex Hubbard

Flour Bakery! I’m so excited you’re coming to my hood! Also if you’re here during the week, there’s a great coffee shop called Sip in the Financial District. And, of course, there’s always Howl at the Moon, my favorite piano bar :)

  • Things That Sparkle

Stella is a delicious Italian restaurant, such good atmosphere! I wish we had it in Chicago

  • http://twitter.com/SandraVee01 The Vee Bee Diaries

Yay! You’re coming here! So many great little places to go and things to do.
    - Take a walk around Charles St. and go to Figs if you’re craving pizza
    - Mike’s pastries at North End
    - Thai Basil on Newbury St.
    - Take a Duck Boat tour!
    - Have to hit Harvard Sq. and grab some frozen yogurt

Hope you enjoy your time here!

  • Rachel

I’m newly obsessed with the Everygirl so I’m thrilled that you’ll be coming our fair city.  If you venture over the river to Cambridge, Harvard Square is a great area. It’s full of lovely boutiques (Mint Julep, Topaz) and delicious restaurants (Upstairs on the Square, Russell House Tavern).  Perhaps I’m biased though…my friend and I own a lingerie boutique here called FORTY WINKS, which we think is pretty special.  If you’re around, stop by and say hi!  Have a great trip!

    • Katie Marshall

      Forty Winks is pretty special!

  • Christine

sonsie on newbury street for brunch! perfect spot for people watching b/c it’s an open air restaurant! also….. madewell on newbury street. :)

  • http://morganstone.blogspot.com/ morgan @ {xoxo, me}

Ahh yay! You’re coming to Boston :) I haven’t lived here long myself, but there’s one restaurant that my boyfriend and I absolutely love: Franklin Cafe – there’s one in the South End and one in Southie. We seriously will talk about how good it is for days after eating there. It’s fabulous!

  • http://www.gathersnm.blogspot.com Kim Humes

The Union Oyster House! Great seafood + history (I think it’s the oldest restaurant in Boston or something similar). Sit in the Kennedy booth upstairs if you can (that’s right, the Kennedy bros used to eat there and always sat in that booth). DEFINITELY Fenway Park (might get lucky and get to go down on the field like our tour group did!) and the Aquarium is pretty cool too

  • http://www.crossedanddotted.blogspot.com/ Renée

ditto to caffe vittoria in the north end. you should also check out the border cafe in cambridge and take a swan boat ride in the public garden! extra points for pictures with the make way for ducklings statues!

  • http://twitter.com/yourstrulypaper Melissa Bilodeau

So excited to see this post on my feed today! I work at Neptune Oyster in the North End, we’re a fun little oyster bar with amazing food and wine! If you come to check us out, ask for me (Melissa). I also love the boutiques to the left and right of us, Acquire and Shake the Tree. Enjoy Boston!

  • Jayna

Oleana in Cambridge has amazing tapas! And, a bit farther out in Cambridge, but worth the trip, is their bakery – Sofra.  Staying with tapas, Toro, downtown had wonderful food and creative drinks.  And for an eclectic vibe with music, etc., The Beehive on the East side.  I loooove Boston!

  • http://halcyon-style.blogspot.com/ Allison {Halcyon Style}

I can’t wait to read the Everygirl’s features from my city. My favorite neighborhoods (where I live and work) are Beacon HIll and the South End. On Charles Street check out Good for jewelry and decor as well as Holiday for clothing. Eat at Figs if you’re craving out of this world pizza – the crispy eggplant is to die for. Over in the South End grab coffee or lunch at Mohr & McPherson or the Buttery. Browse through Formaggio Kitchen’s imported delights or grab a sandwich on the fly. Be sure to stop in Michelle Willey, Hudson and M. Flynn. If you’re in the mood for art head over to 450 Harrison and see if any artists are working in their studios. Don’t miss out on walking through the Public Gardens, the trees are in full bloom and the flower beds are full of tulips. Enjoy your trip!

  • Nora

    Don’t miss Flour Bakery!! http://www.flourbakery.com/

  • Margaret

You’ve got to try Trattoria di Monica in the North End. THE BEST FOOD! And Sip Cafe in Post Office Square (Financial District) has great pastries, sandwiches and coffee. Enjoy!

  • Brit

I think everyone has covered some awesome stuff!  The North End, Beacon Hill, South End, and Harvard Square are musts!

    - North End:  Shake the Tree, Acquire, and stop into Neptune Oyster in b/w for an amazing Bellini and Oysters!  If you need a caffeine kick, head into Boston Common coffee (their healthier scones are great too!).
    - Beacon Hill:  Crush, Good, and Flat of the Hill are great boutiques, along with the antique stores tucked in between.
    - South End:  Flock is a must go to boutique!  JEM, Hudson, and MFlynn too.  For restaurants, the options are endless – Stella (Italian), Toro (tapas), Franklin Cafe, The Buttery, and on and on and on!
    - Harvard Square: Stop by Forty Winks that Rachel suggested, you’ll walk out feeling like a new woman with an extra swing in your step! Head over to the Charles Hotel to Henrietta’s table for their brunch – its the best brunch you will ever have, I promise!

  • Carolyn Sebasky

So excited for you guys to come to my neck of the woods! My absolute favorite restaurant at the moment in Lucca in the North End – amazing Italian food and quintessential atmosphere. If you’re lucky enough to have warm weather, I HIGHLY recommend spending some time in the Seaport area – all of the restaurants have outdoor dining on the waterfront (Temazcal is great for Mexican).

Can’t wait to see the features!

  • http://beautifullifeandstyle.com/ Erika

I live in Boston and I can’t imagine living anywhere else in the world! It has started being nice and warm here so I would maximize the amount of time spent outside- this should be easy as we are a big walking city! Here are a few suggestions for my favorite places:

    1. Beacon Hill. Walk down Charles St. Peek in a few antique stores. Shop your way through vintage jewelry and small boutiques- I love Crush and Holiday! Take a stroll peeking in private gardens around Beacon Hill and admiring the federal style townhouses. Stroll over to the Garden and take a picture with the “make way for ducklings” statue- touristy, yes- but a must do. Finish up with dinner at the Paramount- its a great neighborhood restaurant and is much quieter at night than it is for Brunch!

    2. South end. Peek around some great home furnishing stores like Hudson and definitely check out one of the 1000 options for lunch/ brunch/ dinner. Gaslight and Toro are two favorites. and let me say- the line is worth the wait for the Beehive.

    3. Waterfront. Visit the ICA. Do a little shopping at Louis- one of the most influential stores in the country. If you can’t afford it- its still fun to look! Then head over to Drink for some custom cocktails (seriously- the best cocktails in the city- they don’t have a drink menu and read your mind and spend 15 minutes crafting EXACTLY what you are craving.)

    4. Fenway Try to catch a redsox game! Even if you are not a big baseball fan- the atmosphere at the stadium is so fun and leisurely. And don’t even think about leaving without trying the sausage and peppers! Eastern Standard has a great scene post game. Visit the MFA and take in their amazing collection of American Art and new contemporary wing.

    5. Back Bay. Take a stroll on the esplanade. Rent a kayak in Kendall square and paddle down the river. Don’t forget your camera! Head to Newbury St. gallery hop and shop til you drop in all of the amazing stores.

things to skip- duckboats and fanieul hall

ok that was a lot and now i’m the crazy person- but there is just so much to see and do! enjoy :)

  • Marisa

Hidden gems: Pomodoro in Brookline, along with the Brookline outpost of Orinoco.

Drinks: Deep Ellum, Drink, the Liberty Hotel, Cuchi Cuchi

South End for wandering and boutiques.

  • Lizswirsky

Favorites: Island Creek Oyster Bar and Neptune Oyster Bar!!

  • Stephene Ward

I can’t wait to see where y’all end up going! I’m moving to Boston in August and need to know where to cute, fun places are to hang out! :)

  • jenn@ahomeinthemaking

Ooh, LOVE Boston! I went to college there and one of the best kept secrets is Parish Cafe. Amazing food, great vibe … it’s on Boylston, just past Arlington. It’s a must try :)

  • http://twitter.com/JSGD_ JSGD

Casa B in Somerville is my new fav restaurant! If you’re staying closer to downtown, check out Torro, the Gallows or Orinoco (all in the South End).

Can’t wait to meet you next week!

  • http://www.lowbrowbookreview.blogspot.com/ Nicole

Are you going to hit the store ‘Hudson’?  Everyone raves about it…
You don’t get any more fun decor-wise than Upstairs on the Square!

  • PaulCCarter

    Great!!!! Bostson is beautiful!

  • Katie Marshall

I lived in Cambridge during law school and there are so many gems!  Carmen for cozy Italian — there are only a few tables (North End), Toro for amazing cocktails and tapas – try the Nantucket Mule (South End), Atlantic Fish Co. for lunch (near Copley – the grilled seafood salad is to die for), Liberty Hotel for drinks (Beacon Hill), Neptune Oyster Bar, Craigie on Main (Cambridge), and Henrietta’s table (Cambridge) for brunch!

  • MYK

There are so many great places in Boston! Lunch at Sonsie on Newbury Street. Shopping on Charles Street. The Garment District near MIT. Harvard Sq, Boston Gardens, Sunday dim sum in China Town. If you have a car venture to Hingham and Duxbury – classic New England towns on the water.

  • Amy Jia

I live in South End now and my staples have been: Buttery, Wholy Grain, Toro (tapas), Blunch (amazing sandwiches and salads), Picco’s for the homemade ice cream (its actually a restaurant/bar), Formaggio Kitchen (tiny specialty shop), Hudson (adorable home goods store you guys would adore)
Seafood anywhere. And DO BRUNCH while you’re here – literally can’t go wrong! I’ll be moving back to Chicago from Boston next month and I know I’m going to miss it!

  • Daniela

Grab lunch at Quincy Market and then walk to little Italy to grab a Cannoli at Mike’s Pastries :)

  • Robyn

I am so excited that you will be here in Boston! Here is a list of a few of favorites:

I agree with others in that Flour and Myers & Chang are a must. I also love Neptune Oyster Bar, The Butcher Shop, Island Creek Oyster Bar, and next door Eastern Standard (Island Creek and Eastern Standard have great bartenders). Another must try for great cocktails, DRINK in the Seaport District (and downstairs from another favorite Sportello). To add to the list, I would say Toro (amazing), Coppa and the South End Buttery, right around the corner from Hudson, which is a must visit. I have others and would be happy to share if there is something specific your looking to do/see. And of course, if you need a  tour guide or just want to say hello to one of your biggest fans of the The Everygirl, let me know (robyn@amodestlife.com). I hope you ladies have a great time and enjoy all that the city has to offer.

If you are looking for a bit of Boston history, you might check here before you arrive! http://countrydesignhome.com/2012/04/15/boston-youre-my-home/

  • Lovaniez

I second that “Flour” option for coffee, Also in Cambridge, is Veggie Galaxy and Life Alive are good vegan options for food.

  • http://yearofserendipity.wordpress.com Karen

So excited you’re coming to Boston!  I’m kind of becoming obsessed with this site- its amazing!  There’s a fantastic sustainable decor/design store in the Fort Point neighborhood called Twelve Chairs.  Everything in there is drool-worthy, and the girls who own it are so sweet.

  • Kristen Tappel

get a cannoli in the North End – delicious!

  • Shannonkfelton

    haha THAT’S MY BOYFRIEND’S HOUSE! :)

  • Shannonkfelton

Ok my comment got deleted, I guess I need to leave a bit more info. You MUST stop by Beacon Hill, fabulous boutiques include CRUSH, Moxie, and Second Time Around (consignment). 21st Century Jewelery is always fun to stop by and peak. I agree with the Figs suggestion, its unbelievable. While in Beacon Hill you can stop by Acorn Street (picture above) and get some great photos… (including my bf’s house which is in that pic.. woot woot) The South End is like an entirely different city, its amazing. If you go one place while your in town, I say the Beehive in South End, its truly remarkable.

  • Allison

Toro in the south end is hands down my favorite restaurant in the city – but be prepared to linger at the bar while you wait for your table! Luckily the cocktails are awesome!

For a quick (but tasty/satisfying) breakfast, lunch or even light dinner, go to Boloco! Short for “Boston Local Company,” the globally inspired burritos always hit the spot. Try the tikka masala burrito or the Mediterranean burrito. The size and nutritional options mean you don’t need to leave feeling disgustingly full (like the national competitor’s burritos always leave me…). A handful of locations throughout the city….

Beacon Hill has old European charm, great shops on Charles St, and is right along the Boston Common. I’m biased (because it is my neighborhood) but I’d argue it’s the best neighborhood for an afternoon stroll and casual shopping.

  • http://twitter.com/GabiValladares Gabi Valladares

I’m so excited that you’re heading over to Boston!  I’ve lived here for the past two years and it’s an absolutely wonderful little city.  As for areas of Boston, you must check out Beacon Hill for its quaint little cobble stoned streets and small shops, the South End for its brownstones and restaurants (Gaslight Brasserie and the charming South End Buttery, to be exact), and the greens and shops in Harvard Square.

Harvard Square and Beacon Hill also feature a ton of little boutiques and fascinating shops like Black Ink.  Have so much fun while you’re here!

  • Katherine

Boston! Excited you’re coming here. As a born and raised Beacon Hill-er I cannot recommend this amazing neighborhood (and many others) enough (obviously pleased you chose the Hill for your photo). I highly recommend:
    - 75 Chestnut on Beacon Hill their bloody mary bar for weekend brunches is the best
    - Piattini on Newbury Street in the Back Bay for small plates of amazing italian
    - The South End Buttery in the South End for their lobster mac and cheese and parmesan-garlic fries with truffle aoli
    - The Gallows in the South End for great atmosphere and cocktails
    - Top of the Hub at the top of the Prudential tower for cocktails and amazing can’t be missed views of the city
    - Towne on Boylston Street in the Back Bay for amazing food, cocktails and a great dinner and bar scene
    - The Barking Crab for amazing seafood on the water
    - The Seaport for waterfront views and great bars
    - Jerry Remy’s by Fenway Park for a great roofdeck sports bar next door to the ballpark, as well as massive tvs and extremely decent bar food
Make sure to leave some time for shopping
    - Holiday on Charles Street on Beacon Hill for unique and gorgeous clothing
    - North River Outfitters on Charles Street on Beacon Hill for your fix of Boston preppiness
    - Flat of the Hill on Charles street on Beacon Hill for gifts, home decorative touches and anything you could ever imagine
    - Newbury Street in the Back Bay has great shopping as well

Hope you enjoy your time in Boston! Would love if you posted where you’ll be when you’re here.
