3 Oscars Hairstyles Anyone Can Do at Home

Now that The Oscars are behind us and the curtain has been closed on this award show season, we’re taking a look back at some of our favorite hairstyles that can be recreated at home. Let’s face it, amongst the sea of couture gowns and blinding diamonds, the red carpet wouldn’t be complete without fabulous hair to go with it. Thanks to Elizabeth Fuller of A Lover’s Anthology and Audrey Lee Photography, we’re bringing you simple DIY steps to achieving gorgeous red carpet-worthy hair. And trust me, Elizabeth pulls off these gorgeous styles just as effortlessly as Jennifer Lawrence gracefully recovered from her fall on the red carpet last night. These looks would be perfect for a fancy date night, a wedding, or just any day you’re wanting to feel (and look) like a hair genius.  So grab some bobby pins and join the celebrities in the constant cloud of hair spray they had to endure this award show season. Let’s get to it.

STEP 1. Starting with either straight or curled hair, part your hair in a deep side part. Pro tip: your ideal side part should match up with the arch of your eyebrow.

STEP 2. Pull all of your hair towards the side of your hair with the part and secure in a low ponytail using a clear rubber hair tie.

STEP 3. If your hair isn’t curled, take a curling rod and gently wave each piece.

STEP 4. Finish off with a light coat of hairspray. (Tip: To hide the rubber elastic, take a small piece of hair from the underside of the ponytail, wrap the hair around the ponytail and secure by pushing a bobbypin upwards into the ponytail.)

STEP 1. Taking a comb, part your hair in a deep side part.
(Tip: your ideal side part should match up with the arch of your eyebrow.)

STEP 2. Section off your hair, leaving just the bottom layer down. Taking one inch sections of hair, straighten the hair from root to tip with a flat iron.

STEP 3. Repeat around the entire layer before taking down and resectioning the next layer of hair. Continue flat ironing one inch sections until every strand has been straightened.

STEP 4. Taking a small amount of pomade, pull it through the hair from midshaft down, just to keep it straight all night!

STEP 5. Tuck the side with the least amount of hair behind your ear. Finish with a light coat of hairspray.

STEP 1. Starting with either straight or curled hair, add in a good layer of dry shampoo over the entire head. This is done for body and volume.

STEP 2. Brush all of your hair straight back and put a black headband at the front of your scalp. Keeping it flush with your head, push back.

STEP 3. Lightly tease the top and crown section of your hair to get an adequate amount of volume.

STEP 4. Gently gather all of your hair into a ponytail (don’t pull too tight, you don’t want to flatten all of your freshly teased hair!) on the back of your head and secure with a rubber elastic.
STEP 5. Take the ponytail and twist it towards the bottom. Once twisted, twist it around itself to become a bun.
STEP 6. Secure with bobbypins all around the base of the bun.

STEP 7. Spritz a small amount of shine spray to revive dulled hair from the dry shampoo.

STEP 8. Finish off with a light coat of hairspray and you’re finished!
