With a voice so pure and soulful beyond her years, one would never imagine that Birdy—the precocious British singer and songwriter—is only fifteen. She has played the piano since the age of seven, and the raw emotion and talent that pours from this young artist is sure to enchant your ears and capture your heart. If you don’t recognize her name, chances are you may have fallen in love with her hauntingly beautiful rendition of Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love” which was featured in The Vampire Diaries. Mumford and Sons also chose Birdy to record “Learn Me Right,” the emotionally-charged closing song in Disney Pixar’s Brave, and her original song “Just a Game” is on The Hunger Games’ soundtrack.
Birdy released her eponymous self-titled debut album in November of 2011, and it’s a sophisticated compilation of covers of songs from familiar artists such as Phoenix, Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, and The XX. Her vocals and subdued style make the songs entirely different and unique in her own beautiful way, and you’ll find yourself loving them as much as the original versions. Which of her songs are your favorite?
