Hear This: Foxes

You may already know her voice from Zedd’s radio hit “Clarity,” but this England-born beauty is ready to show she can bring it herself. Twenty-four-year-old Louisa Rose Allen, known as Foxes, has already released an EP, Warrior, and returned this summer with two new singles, “Beauty Queen” and “Youth.”

Synth-happy “Youth” is more on the electro-pop side of Foxes’ work and features some really cool instrumental elements. With an upbeat chorus, it’s no surprise that this catchy track was featured on Gossip Girls.

Between the synths and percussion, Foxes vocals soar. As if that weren’t a lethal combination already, her lyrics will leave you feeling haunted. Check out “Warrior” for some of those lyrics: when the monsters are sleeping under your bed, they’ve crawled out from under and into your head and outside the carcass into your skin, and you need someone to keep the light in.

While Foxes is often compared to pop vocalists Ellie Goulding and Marina & The Diamonds, she has proven that her unique voice can hold its own. Check out her cameo in Fall Out Boy’s “Just One Yesterday,” where her bridge rises up and meshes perfectly with Patrick Stump’s vocals. At the rate she’s going, Foxes has a lot more to offer—both collaboratively and independently.
