Matching Sets: Now & Later

When it comes to summer trends, there are few that make our hearts flutter more than the matching set. Not only does coordinating our, ahem… coordinates, make us secretly feel a little Jackie-O, but they allow for endless mixing and matching combinations, making them one of our most versatile closet staples. If you thought it was too late in the season to jump on the matchy-matchy bandwagon, think again! This is one summer trend that won’t be sentenced to the back of the closet come September. Here are our favorite ways to wear them right now, and how to seamlessly transition them into your fall wardrobe rotation. (Because, really, fall will be here before you know it!)

Textured pieces are great for adding a bit of interest to any ensemble, and a great choice that will easily span over several seasons. The tweed lends itself to feeling fall-like, but the colors keep this set bright and fun enough to be perfect for warmer weather, too. In a month or so, turn this little number into a back-to-school inspired ensemble by dressing it down with a navy blazer, classic white Keds, braided necklace, and an all-purpose tote bag.

Can’t get enough of crop tops? Us either! And we can’t bear the thought of putting them away after summer is over. Instead, add warmth to a matching cropped set by throwing on a zippered jacket and swapping sandals for black ankle boots. Finish the look with a black and white statement necklace, and a metallic cross-body.

What about flowing, flowery separates? Go dressy-casual for fall by adding a military-inspired printed parka (we love how this one is cheetah print camo!), a neutral bucket bag, and some fancy, pointed-toe ballet flats. Top it off with a dainty necklace with a bit of edge.

Shake up your summery stripes by layering with a chambray button-up for extra warmth. To create a more defined waist, tie it up with a knot at the narrow point of your midsection. A scarf with a contrasting print will create additional interest. Stripes and florals are always a foolproof combo! Pair with high-heeled leather boots and a classic leather crossbody. Finally, change out your bright pink and red lipstick hues for a darker, autumn color.
