The more we learn about how important it is to get enough sleep, the more fascinated we become. Though we know there are health issues associated with a lack of sleep, it’s nonetheless so difficult to unplug from our Netflix obsessions and Instagram feeds late at night. (In order to be successful, we have to fit as many activities as possible into our days, right?!) Well, we did some digging into the sleep habits of some of the most successful people on the planet—and what we found might shock you.
Vogue editor Anna Wintour is religious about her 10pm bedtime, which enables her to wake up at 5am every day to play tennis before work. Her daughter, Bee Schaffer, is also an early bird. “You just feel like a superior person [when you’re up early],” she told Teen Vogue.
Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk goes to bed at around 1am and sleeps for around six hours, according to a Reddit Q&A.
According to a 2007 Interview article, Singer/diva/reality TV star Mariah Carey goes to bed at 7am and wakes up around 5pm. Before a performance, she will sleep for as many as 15 hours.
According to The Seattle Times, Bill Gates is a bit more reasonable in his sleep cycle, averaging around seven hours a night. He goes to bed at midnight. “I like to get seven hours of sleep,” he says. “Even though it’s fun to stay up all night, if I have to be creative I need seven hours. I can give a speech without much sleep, I can do parts of my job that way, but in thinking creatively, I’m not much good without seven hours.”
According to Fast Company, Oprah sleeps five hours per night, going to bed around 2am and waking up naturally between 7:15 and 7:23am.
After a major health scare resulted from scrimping on sleep, media mogul Arianna Huffington woke up to the idea that she needed to get more Z’s. She now sleeps a solid eight hours, going to bed between 10:30pm and 11pm.
While we don’t know for certain what time Martha’s head finally hits the pillow, we do know that she rises each morning between 4:30am and 5am, and that she’s claimed to get only about four hours of sleep per night. So, we can assume her bedtime hovers around midnight, give or take 30 minutes.

Believe it or not, Us Weekly reports that mogul mom Jessica Alba gets eight hours of sleep per night, and her bedtime varies based on what time she has to get up. Several mornings a week, she rises for a 5:15am workout (which is weird because we do exactly the same… in our dreams!).
