Hybrid remote in the Chicagoland area; two days in our West Loop office.

What would you do in this role?

We’re seeking a proactive, detail-oriented Accountant to manage day-to-day financial operations and maintain accurate financial records in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment. As the sole in-house finance team member, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring smooth financial operations, collaborating with internal teams and external partners, and supporting leadership with timely reporting and insights.

This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative, fast paced, small-team environment and is comfortable working autonomously and wearing multiple hats within the accounting function.

Responsibilities

Core Accounting Operations

  • Facilitate monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial closes.
  • Manage general ledger activities, including recording journal entries and reconciling accounts.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, client invoicing, and collections across several departments.
  • Maintain fixed asset records and ensure accurate depreciation tracking.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary financial point of contact for internal teams, vendors, and clients.
  • Meet regularly with the Sales Team to monitor accounts receivable and resolve billing issues.
  • Review vendor invoices for coding accuracy, budget availability, and approval routing.

Reporting & Forecasting

  • Prepare ad-hoc financial reports as requested by leadership.
  • Assist with the development of annual budgets based on inputs from the CEO and department leads.
  • Analyze budget-to-actuals and provide variance explanations as needed.

Payroll & Compensation Support

  • Process bi-weekly payroll in Paylocity and prepare payroll-related accounting entries.
  • Track and calculate employee commissions in partnership with the Sales Team.
  • Manage 1099 year-end process through Paylocity.

Compliance & Audit Support

  • Support annual tax preparation in collaboration with the external accountant.
  • Assist in the preparation of documentation and schedules for internal and external audits.
  • Prepare and submit sales and use tax filings, as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 4+ years of full-cycle accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and accrual-based accounting.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks (Online Advanced preferred).
  • High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize across multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Excel and Google Sheets.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace and Slack.
  • Proficiency in Asana or other similar project management platforms.
  • Proficiency in Quickbooks Online Advanced.
  • Experience in Event Accounting
  • Experience in FP&A (Financial Planning & Analysis) and Budgeting
  • Basic understanding of Taxation
  • Experience with using 3rd party payment systems

Compensation

Range: $28.00 – $34.00/hr
