For full remote positions, candidates must reside in one of the following states: California, Florida, Iowa, Illinois (Outside of the Chicagoland area), Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Oregon, Texas, or Wisconsin. Hybrid remote in the Chicagoland area.

What would you do in this role?

The Assistant Editor position plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and consistency of our content. This position will work closely with our editorial team to write, edit, and proofread articles, providing valuable support to ensure the highest level of accuracy and clarity in our content. The Assistant Editor will play a critical support and logistics role for projects.

Responsibilities

  • Review and edit content for grammar, spelling, style, and consistency.
  • Ensure that all content aligns with our company’s style guide and brand guidelines.
  • Provide support for content creation across all subjects.
  • Write content across a wide range of topics on the site, based both on own pitches and assignments given by editors
  • Update article archives for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Assist in executing the SEO strategy by writing and updating articles to meet best practices.
  • Assist in executing the commerce strategy through writing and updating articles.
  • Collect data from Google Analytics and other sources as needed.
  • Assist the Editor-in-Chief with various projects.
  • Provide administrative support as needed.
  • Provide support for larger projects pertaining to the editorial team and other departments as needed.
  • Contribute to the overall video content creation process as needed, including the development and delivery of original video assets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, media, or a related field, or a demonstration of equivalent expertise through relevant work experience for positions in these fields.
  • 1-2 years of experience in media or related fields.
  • Ability to communicate and strategize effectively with the team while working remotely.
  • A deep understanding of The Everygirl’s brand and content coverage.
  • Proficiency in AP Style and a strong grasp of grammar, with the ability to adhere to The Everygirl Media Group Style Guide.
  • Excellent communication skills for delivering constructive feedback.
  • Strong organizational abilities, enabling efficient management of multiple projects concurrently.
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices and familiarity with various social media platforms.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Capable of working efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to think critically and problem-solve independently.
  • Experience working in digital media, either as a writer, editor, or content creator.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-2+ years of experience in writing and editing
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace and Slack.
  • Proficiency in Asana or other similar project management platforms.
  • Proficiency in WordPress or other similar content management platforms.
  • Understanding of analytics tools to track content performance.

Compensation

Range: $21.00-$26.00 per hour; commensurate with experience and location.
