What is Cocofloss and why is it so great?
Cocofloss was founded by two sisters, a dentist, Dr. Chrystle Cu, and an artist, Cat Cu, who both wanted to create an oral care brand that blended wellness and fun. They offer a spread of dental products like toothbrushes and toothpaste, but their star player is their floss, which is aptly named after the brand’s namesake.
Cocofloss is a soft-woven dental floss infused with cleansing coconut oil that has a unique texture from the woven fibers it’s made of. It gets its anti-bacterial properties from the natural coconut oil it’s infused with, and its easy-to-use ability from microcrystalline vegan wax that gives it its ability to slip and glide easily between your teeth. These clean ingredients alone already make Cocofloss the better alternative than any regular old floss, plus, the brand prides itself on being non-toxic and completely free of ingredients that are known to be toxic such as BPA, parabens, SLS, and PFAS.
After their clean ingredients, another standout quality of Cocofloss is the design of the floss itself. Cocofloss is a woven floss, which means that it is composed of filaments that are woven together, as opposed to wax floss, which is a simple piece of nylon string coated with wax. Compared to wax floss, woven floss is known to get a deeper clean, is less likely to cut your gums, and made with better ingredients. Cocofloss’ ultra-durable woven filaments are made from 85 percent recycled polyester from plastic water bottles, so their clean practices also expand to eco-friendly manufacturing processes.

My Cocofloss Review: First Impressions
For my very first order, I opted for their Favorites Sampler, which includes a full-size spool in Delicious Mint and two mini spools in Fresh Coconut and Pure Strawberry. Upon arrival, I loved how symmetrically my purchase fit into the box it came in. The packaging was aesthetically pleasing, came with directions, and actually made me excited to begin my flossing journey.
I especially loved how the branding was so educational and encouraging, with a guide on the floss itself letting you know when you need to replace it and vocabulary all over the packaging with words such as “unwind…” or “shine and share.” Falling behind on practicing dental hygiene can be shameful and most dental products seem hard-edged and sterile, but I quickly found that Cocofloss was anything but that.
Why I prefer Cocofloss
I was so giddy to try out my Cocofloss that I literally gave a different flavored strand to everyone I live with and made them all floss with me for about a minute or so. After being a devoted Cocofloss user for some time now—and converting my friends and siblings along the way—I’ve since been able to pinpoint some of my favorite qualities about it.
It’s simple to use
The first thing I noticed was how easy it was to use. The thin strand was tightly woven but wasn’t too slippery or harsh on my gums. Woven floss can be known to fall apart or separate easily, but I’ve never experienced that at all when I floss with Cocofloss.
The unique flavor options
The flavors stood out to me the most. I’ve never used floss that wasn’t anything other than mint, so using the Pure Strawberry and Fresh Coconut flavors put a fun twist on flossing. They’re not too strong or overpowering, so if you’re worried about fragrance or taste, don’t be.
It actually makes me floss every day
Since my initial Cocofloss purchase, I literally have used it every single day. Dare I say, I actually look forward to this part of my daily routine. I’ve noticed an improvement in my oral health tenfold since I started using Cocofloss, including less sensitive gums, minimal plaque build-up, and more general feelings of freshness. I used to get frustrated when the floss I was using would make my gums bleed, but that is a complete thing of the past since I started using Cocofloss.

By the time my next dentist appointment came around, I was ready for the hygienist to notice my sparkling gums. My appointment went off without a hitch, and all I was told was, “Everything looks good! See you in six months!” Despite being slightly disappointed that no one noticed that I was in my new-found Flossing Era, I guess no news is better than bad news, right? I’ve continued my Cocofloss usage, and I’m really excited to place another order once I run out and potentially test out some new flavors. Sure, you can get any kind of floss at the store with no problem, but if you’re like me and want to be serious about starting a new routine and actually sticking to it, I fear Cocofloss may be the route to go.
