As someone who has been ordering the same sandwich combination from Subway since 2009 and would prefer to restart The Vampire Diaries in lieu of taking my chances with a new show, I can confidently call myself a creature of habit. When it comes to my wardrobe, I’m no different. Because my tolerance for anything uncomfortable, ill-fitting, or difficult to style is low, I’m a proud outfit repeater with a closet full of a few tried-and-true pieces that I genuinely look forward to putting on.

And if said outfit includes denim? There’s a 90 percent chance I’m wearing my Levi’s Baggy Dad jeans. With a so-comfortable-they-could-be-PJs feel and an on-trend cut that disguises my elder-millennial ways, they’re the ones I’d immediately rebuy if they somehow got ripped from my grasp. And get this: During Levi’s 50% off sale, you can snag them for just $54.

My Review on Levi’s Baggy Dad Jeans

At this time last year, I was convinced that jeans and I just didn’t jive, and I had a graveyard of untouched denim in my closet to prove it. In a sea of options that were too short, too baggy, too restrictive, or too dated, I marched into Aritzia to do an in-store try-on of some styles. With a primary goal of comfort and a secondary goal of fit, I clenched my cheeks and welcomed my worst nightmare of questionable lighting, unflattering mirrors, and the curtain slip that would inevitably expose my bare butt to strangers in the name of finding a pair I wouldn’t dread putting on.

Toward the end of my marathon, I slipped into a pair that felt good. I’m talking pajamas good. But knowing that comfort usually meant a style I couldn’t make work or a price tag I couldn’t afford, I waddled over to the mirror to find a fabulous fit to accompany my expression of disbelief. Dare I say: I looked… cool? With their mid-rise, straight-leg fit that was relaxed without feeling sloppy, I was ready to cough up the asking price—no matter what the tag revealed. But the greatest gift of all? They were the most budget-friendly of the styles I wiggled into that day.

Sizing

I got these jeans in my usual size 25, and they fit perfectly, so I’d say this style is definitely true to size. The mid-rise fit means the waist hits right beneath my belly button (which I find to be infinitely more flattering than a high rise), and the hips and butt have a relaxed but not too baggy fit. I didn’t need to size up for the thigh and leg to have the relaxed fit I was seeking. However, if you want them to be truly baggy, I’d recommend sizing up one size.

I’m a longer-legged 5-foot-4-inch girl, so with hindsight, I probably could have originally opted for the 30-inch inseam (rather than the 28-inch pictured here). But given how affordable they are, I’ve since decided to order them in the 30-inch inseam, too. While I love the 28-inch inseam with sandals in the summer, I prefer the longer option with sneakers and boots in the cooler months. (The longer length helps prevent my style from screaming, “Yes, I am in fact 30!”).

The Verdict

As someone who gets easily overstimulated in constricting denim and couldn’t find a fit worth powering through for, this Baggy Dad style from Levi’s truly changed the game for me. As soon as I purchased these, I transformed into a person who now lounges in jeans, which would have stunned my past self. I bought these at full price and have worn them at least twice a week for a year, making their cost per wear (at most) $1.04. Given how comfortable these are, combined with how much they’ve elevated my style, I’d say they’re worth every penny.
