Taking care of your skin can be one of the most important things you do for yourself. Whether it’s getting a treatment to help reset your skin or simply adding an extra step to your routine for a bit of well-deserved TLC, skincare is a form of self-care and should be embraced.
This Baggy Dad style from Levi’s is a tried-and-true favorite our team swears by, made famous by an effortlessly cool fit and PJ-like comfort.
One of the newest skincare treatments on the market is PRX-T33 Biorevitalization, an innovative treatment designed to stimulate the skin’s regenerative processes with little-to-no downtime. It’s reported to improve skin texture, tone, and elasticity for a radiant and smooth complexion that gives a “glass skin” effect.
“The benefits of PRX include immediate skin tightening, lifting, and a noticeable glow” said Le Jolie Med Spa Co-Founder & Head Esthetician Sharona Rafaeloff. “Over time, the treatment reduces fine lines and wrinkles, enhances skin hydration and radiance, and diminishes hyperpigmentation and acne scars.”
As someone who can’t resist a promising new skincare treatment, the second I heard about this up-and-coming facial, I knew I had to give it a try. Here’s everything you need to know about PRX, plus my review on the treatment.
What Is a PRX Facial?
The PRX facial essentially provides the benefits of a face peel, without the actual peeling process. “PRX, or, more specifically, PRX-T33 Biorevitalizer, is a proprietary compound consisting of TCA, hydrogen peroxide, and Kojic acid. Unlike other high-percentage TCA peels, the addition of hydrogen peroxide in PRX drastically reduces, and nearly eliminates, common side effects like pain and peeling,” explained AW Plastic Surgery.
What to Expect at a PRX Facial
During your PRX treatment, your esthetician will administer a soothing facial massage to active the ingredients of the facial and penetrate them into deeper layers of the skin—all without damaging the surface’s microbiome.
While performing the procedure, your esthetician will typically ask about your skin concerns and the problem areas you’d like to address with the facial. (Most people tend to focus on skin texture or areas where you may have fine lines and wrinkles.) After the facial cleanse and application of the PRX solution via a facial massage, the ingredients will stimulate the production of collagen and elastin without the use of needles or overly invasive chemicals.
Your esthetician may need to apply multiple layers of solution, depending on your skin type and needs. This process leaves an immediate glow and eventually results in an improvement in skin texture.
“While it may not replace more intensive treatments, it is an excellent option for those seeking a noticeable improvement in skin quality without significant recovery time,” said Rafaeloff. “PRX can also be combined with other treatments for enhanced results.”
How Much Does a PRX Treatment Cost?
On average, the PRX-T33 Bio Revitalization retails for around $500.
What Are the Negative Effects of PRX?
With no needles and no downtime, a PRX facial is a pretty non-invasive way to improve the appearance of your skin. You can see visible improvements immediately after leaving the spa, and I personally experienced no pain during the procedure. I did experience some temporary redness, which subsided pretty quickly.
My Experience Getting a PRX Facial
The concept of glass skin has been trending for quite some time, and the possibility a PRX facial giving me clear, dewy skin seemed too good to refuse. For such an effective facial, the experience was completely relaxing and pain-free. I saw results immediately too; when I looked in the mirror post-PRX, my skin was absolutely glowing.
Admittedly, I have a pretty clear complexion with the exception of an occasional pimple here and there. My main skincare concern are the dark spots left behind from popped pimples of the past, which I felt were significantly reduced after receiving the treatment.
The real magic, however, was how my skin looked days after the treatment. Typically, the effects of a facial wear off a few days after I receive them, but the PRX Biorevitalization had my face looking radiant and dewy for weeks—not to mention, my pores were basically invisible. I can’t count how many people told me “your skin looks amazing!” during those first few weeks—which, if you know me, is the highest form of flattery.
My skin directly after my PRX Facial
Dr. Rafaeloff noted that results can last for several months, depending on your skin type. For optimal results, she recommends a series of 3-5 treatments spaced about 1-2 weeks apart, with maintenance treatments every 6-12 months to prolong the positive effects.
Is a PRX Facial Worth It?
In addition to a soothing and relaxing facial—seriously, I almost fell asleep during the process—PRX Biorevitalization boasts the benefits of a typical skin peel and then some.
Left: Me out to dinner with friends a few weeks after the facial, no makeup on.
Right: Me a few days after the procedure, absolutely glowing.
What makes this facial an innovative procedure is the boost of collagen and elastin it provides, which is essential for firm and youthful skin. Unlike traditional skin peels, it’s also non-photosensitizing and does not involve an exfoliation of the epidermis, meaning it’s safe to perform multiple times a year—and during any season.
To me, the most intriguing element that PRX Bio Revitalization had to offer was the ability to effectively reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, scars, and more. With no needles and no downtime, you could see visible results that lasted, which made the facial worth it to me.
