Every year, I go into summer with big aspirations and a mile-long list of things I want to accomplish. If my nostalgic summer movie rewatches taught me anything, it’s that a bucket list is of paramount importance when designing your ideal summer. Unfortunately, I’m usually lucky if I check off one or two of my goals, the rest falling to the wayside as the demands of everyday life take over. But this year, I’m determined to make the absolute most out of my favorite season, so I enlisted the help of tarot expert Hilary Coke so I can know exactly what to expect.
Summer is officially here, and a hot new bombshell of a drink has entered our office: Espresso Lemonade.
If you hoped to have a completely relaxing summer, that’s not quite what the cards had in mind. Instead, this season is all about transformation, but you can exhale because the end of this transformation will bring peace. Read on for your full summer tarot reading.

What is tarot?
Tarot refers to any set of cards used for fortune-telling, but the most popular tarot decks today originated in Italy in the 1400s. The deck has 22 Major Arcana cards, which reveal significant insights about your higher self, and 56 Minor Arcana cards, which offer smaller predictions about your future self. If the details overwhelm you, just know that tarot aims to guide you and offer insight into your future.
How does tarot work?
When a tarot card reader pulls cards for you, they can do several different variations of tarot readings. For this reading, Coke pulled four cards for our readers to predict what their summer might look like from beginning to end. Your summer tarot reading

First card: Seven of Wands
signifies the past; represents standing your ground and defending yourself
Good news! Summer will bring lots of social energy, so prepare for nights out with friends, travel, and meeting new people. However, this energy could also lead to competition, comparison, and feeling like you have to prove yourself. You might find that critical voice in your head a little louder than usual during this time, but don’t let it control you. This card pushes you to stay true to your values and be resilient, no matter what is thrown at you. “Summer’s heat mirrors this card’s fiery energy, urging you to rise to the challenge,” Coke encouraged.

Second card: Two of Swords
signifies the present; represents indecision or avoiding a truth
If you’ve been putting off making a decision weighing heavy on your heart, this card invites you to be still. Summer is a more chaotic season with high emotions and lots happening, but the Two of Swords is asking you to pause and reflect before acting on any emotions. Its presence in the reading means you’re seeking inner clarity and perhaps caught between two paths with no clue which to take. Coke urged you to stop, take a deep breath, and find your peace moving forward.

Third card: Knight of Pentacles
signifies the present; represents steadiness and grounding
Summer may be full of different moving parts and last-minute plans, but the Knight of Pentacles reminds you of the importance of sticking to a routine. “He is the hardworking, patient force in the midst of the summer whirlwind,” Coke said of the card. Progress will be slow and steady, but discipline and responsibility will get results. They won’t be instant, so stay patient and keep working hard.

Fourth card: The World
signifies the future; represents completion and fulfillment
This card in the reading means a personal or spiritual cycle is coming full circle. You could reach a milestone, find closure, or finally see a new perspective. Everything will feel like it’s falling into place. “This card suggests you’re on the cusp of new expansion – perhaps through travel, personal achievement, or the arrival of something meaningful,” Coke said. It’s a sign that a celebration is coming soon.
What this tarot reading means for your summer
This summer will be transformative for you, and it may test your courage and patience at times. “You’re asked to defend your dreams, protect your peace, and take a stand in the face of pressure,” Coke warned. In the face of uncertainty, this spread reminds you not to act rashly but instead move slowly and steadily. Thankfully, all this effort and resilience will pay off by the end of the season. This summer is a major turning point for you, and when you take internal pressure in stride and embrace the effort, you will end the season feeling more complete and at peace with who you are and who you are becoming.
