9 Fashion Essentials for the Lazy Girl

Not everyone is obsessed with mastering fresh trends (like lace-up denim jeans) or with spending hours and days digging through multiple stores to cultivate the perfect outfit. And that’s okay, don’t stress — we’ve got you covered. Let’s be honest, we all want to look like the most stylish version of ourself, but finding the time to do that can seem impossible. But have no fear — we’ve collected this foolproof list of essentials for all our lazy girls.

1. Denim Jackets

Denim jackets will forever be in style, but that’s not to say you don’t need to be on the lookout for a fresh silhouette to keep you looking ahead of the game. Instead of the standard boxy cut, try an oversized heavily distressed jacket or a super cropped black denim jacket. Look for classic bodies that have a little twist to keep your wardrobe fresh. Proportions are especially important. If you’re trying an oversized look, make sure it hits a little below the thickest part of your thighs. If you’re trying a super cropped style, make sure it hits you exactly at your natural waist for the most flattering silhouette.

2. Sneakers

I’ve come to find we all need a great pair of sneakers in our life. And I’m not talking about your old cross trainers. I’m talking about some squeaky clean sneakers that would make Jordan proud. I personally love to wear sneakers with unexpected dresses. It really makes your wardrobe stand out, and it’s the laziest way to look like the chicest girl at the summer BBQ. My personal favorite and current go-to is a pair of Air Force 1s. But any sharp looking sneaker will do, and it doesn’t have to be just white or black. Try a bright color to spice up your usual all-black ensemble.

3. Block Heels

This is the perfect smoke and mirror type shoe. You look dressy without having to put in any energy — and no aching pain in your feet hours later. It’s the best work shoe, especially when transitioning into summer. Keep the heel around 1-3” in height and in a boxy shape with a cigarette pant or cropped culotte. These sandals will keep you strutting around like a boss babe with minimal effort and maximum style.

4. High Waisted “Mom” Jeans

Mom jeans are trending incredibly hard this season, and I’m not mad about it. Hugs you at your smallest point? Check. Comfortable? Check. Casual? Check. I’m living for these jeans and you will too once you slide on a pair that your mom most likely wore in 1992. Style it classic with an easy white tee and rolled cuffs or pair with a very feminine blouse for some juxtaposition.

5. Oversized Men’s Button Up

This is an essential that I love to wear and style in multiple ways and in every season. Find yourself an oversized men’s button up shirt and let your imagination run wild. Try wearing a black slip dress under it with black ankle boots. Or try wrapping it like a crop top with high waisted jeans. Or use a statement belt to cinch the waist and create a new silhouette. Or just leave it unbuttoned over an outfit like a lightweight jacket. See what I’m saying here? The options are ENDLESS.

6. Lightweight Duster

Dusters are the easiest and best essential for your transitional wardrobe. It’s the perfect piece to step your regular outfit up from “fine” to “VAVA VOOM.” I don’t know what it is about throwing on that breezy lightweight duster, but with no effort at all you look like the chicest girl at brunch. You can even try using a long button down shirt or dress as a makeshift duster for a cool and unexpected outfit.

7. Cropped Motorcycle Jacket

The majority of us aren’t jumping on the back of our Harley anytime soon and riding off into the sunset, but that doesn’t mean we can’t cop the style all the same. Try a super cropped moto jacket that hits at your smallest point, in a super bright color or all over embroidery. Whatever style you choose, make sure you try wearing it like a cape, just on your shoulders, for an immediate boost of  confidence.

8. Denim Skirt

I know, I know, I also swore off the denim skirts in 2005 when Paris Hilton’s wardrobe was ruling the streets. But denim is back and it’s everywhere and in every length — from ultra minis to snap-front maxis. Look for lots of distressing or cool hardware to give the piece individuality in your wardrobe. Try pairing it with a graphic tee and sneakers or heels and a silk blouse for a more sophisticated look.

9. Vintage Tee

You need at least one vintage tee that can be worn interchangeably in your wardrobe. Whether you rock a Tupac tee or a Janis Joplin v-neck, this is the best go-to when you want to mix it up and stay casual. I like the longer tees I can wear as a mini dress with over-the-knee boots. You can also tie it at the waist with a nice pair of bright trousers, or tuck into shorts just in the front for a high-low effect.

See, that wasn’t so bad, was it? Add in some of these essential pieces, and your future stylish self will thank you for it.
