Some friends you go to for relationship advice, others you go to for fashion advice, but me? I’m the go-to guru of my friend group for sleep advice. In fact, if I may humble brag for a second, my ability to sleep like a baby and wake up feeling reborn on a daily basis is truly my claim to fame. And because gatekeeping isn’t my vibe, here I am, gladly spilling the tea on all my best sleep hacks.
Rest assured, I’ve done my fair share of experimenting with products over the years to perfect my methods for falling asleep, staying asleep, and waking up feeling energized—and I’m confident that I have the perfect combination of products on lock. Trust me, you’ll thank me later when you realize you no longer need to rely on multiple espresso shots and a dream to get you through the day. Here are five of my holy-grail products that help me sleep soundly every night and wake up feeling refreshed every morning:
1. My ride-or-die Hatch Restore 2
It’s hard for me to choose what I love most about my Restore 2, as all of its features have seriously been a godsend in terms of getting high-quality shut-eye. Perhaps the best part is that it acts as a bedside sleep guide that helps me build restful routines and all-around healthier sleep habits. From customizable sunrise and sundown lights that help set my circadian rhythm, soothing sounds that play throughout the night, and gentle nature sounds that wake me up, my sleep routine has never felt more consistent and calming. Seriously, good riddance to the days of my iPhone jolting me awake with a borderline heart attack. Overall, it’s more than just an alarm clock—it has all the tools to help me fall asleep and stay asleep every night. As the self-proclaimed sleep connoisseur that I am, I can confirm this is one of those sleep products you need to get your hands on ASAP.
2. Supplements to help me chill out
As someone who loves good sleep as much as I do, the ol’ reliable melatonin supplements have surprisingly never really done it for me. They either have no effect at all, or they make me feel super groggy upon waking. So, I kind of gave up on supplements for a while until I read one day that balancing your cortisol levels plus taking magnesium before bed is the secret key to falling and staying asleep. So, obviously, I tried it, and gals… they weren’t lying.
In addition to opting for lower-impact workouts and cortisol-friendly meals, I started taking Love Wellness’s Daily Love Multivitamin to help balance my day-to-day cortisol levels. Since adding it to my morning routine, I’ve been able to tap into my zen-girl era, and my middle-of-the-night wakeups have become few and far between.
For actually falling asleep, I give credit to their Sleeping Beauty magnesium/melatonin hybrid, which relaxes my central nervous system and helps me to unwind right before bed. I swear I pop one of these into my mouth, turn on my meditations, and I’m knocked TF out in less than 10 minutes. And with their current offering (50% off on new subscriptions!!!), there’s never been a better time to take my word for it. Of course, you should talk to your healthcare provider before incorporating any supplements into your routine. But if it’s a safe fit for you, I highly recommend hopping on the Love Wellness train RN.
3. A stress-relieving weighted blanket
I’ll admit it on the internet, loud and proud: I am a hot and sweaty sleeper. And this reality alone made me anti-weighted blanket up until a couple of years ago. I just assumed that having a ton of extra weight on top of me would be my personal hell in terms of sending my body heat through the roof—but I was very wrong. It somehow doesn’t increase my temperature at all but instead uses deep pressure stimulation, which can alleviate anxiety and stress—and, in turn, lead to some grade-A sleeping. This high-quality weighted blanket is the sleep product I’ve been using the longest now, and I wouldn’t want it any other way. I think it’s best compared to what a newborn baby in a swaddle must feel like—safe, secure, and cozy. I’m obsessed.
4. A cooling silk pillowcase
Speaking of being a hot and sweaty sleeper, we all know the downright horrible feeling of your pillow getting too hot multiple times a night. I used to wake up at 2 a.m. with the side of my face on fire and the nape of my neck sweaty AF, angrily flip my pillow to the “cooler” side, and then proceed to do that about five more times throughout the night. But then fate introduced me to silk pillowcases. I started using them to protect my hair while sleeping but quickly realized it was actually helping me stay asleep, too. The soft and naturally cool material stays the same temperature all night long, so I no longer wake up overheated, annoyed, and slamming my pillow into the mattress. This must-have sleep product may have been an accidental discovery, but the best things in life are always unexpected, right?
5. A humidifier with spa vibes
There are few things in life that are worse than an overly itchy throat that will just not go away. Particularly in the colder months of the year, I would notice that I was routinely woken up by the urge to let out the driest, most humbling cough imaginable, causing me to chug half my body weight in water. I’d then try to force myself to fall back asleep before inevitably having to get up again to use the bathroom due to chugging said water. So I treated myself to a little cool-mist humidifier a while ago and never looked back. The added moisture in the air is incredible, and it has gotten rid of my melodramatic coughing fits completely. Plus, the one I have is also an essential oil diffuser, elevating my room to feel like some sort of bougie spa as I sleep oh-so-soundly.
