With summer around the corner, prices soaring left and right, and my FYP serving up a new “must-try” cosmetic treatment every day, I’m on the hunt for something that actually delivers results—without feeling like I’m being scammed by a TikTok dermatologist (seriously, does she even have a license?). The beauty world is overflowing with treatments that promise glowing skin, effortless mornings, and a life free of razor burn, but how do you know what’s actually worth it?
From high-tech facials to treatments that promise long-term convenience, beauty services can be a big investment—both in time and money. Some deliver dramatic results; others might not exactly live up to the hype. To help cut through the noise, our editors are sharing the treatments they’ve personally tried and swear by to everyone who will listen. Plus, we’ve consulted a board-certified dermatologist to find out exactly why they work, and who they’re best for.
Whether you’re looking for a confidence boost, a more streamlined beauty routine, or a practical fix for a stubborn issue, these are the ones that have made a lasting impact—for good.

Laser hair removal: For long-lasting, smooth skin
Dealing with razor burn, ingrown hairs, and constant shaving struggles can feel like an endless cycle. Our Wellness Editor and Podcast Host, Josie, says she’s tried every shaving cream and razor imaginable, and found that laser hair removal finally provided the smooth, effortless results she had been searching for. Unlike waxing, which requires enduring both the pain and the awkward grow-out phase, laser treatments gradually reduce hair growth for good.
If you’re considering laser hair removal, getting it done at LaserAway is our top choice. They specialize in laser treatments, offer cutting-edge technology, and use experienced professionals to ensure a comfortable and effective experience. Their tailored approach helps maximize results while minimizing discomfort, making the process as smooth as the skin you’re aiming for.
What to Know Before You Go:
- Multiple sessions are required for full results (typically 6-8)
- Sun exposure must be avoided before and after treatments to prevent irritation
- Some discomfort is expected, but varies depending on pain tolerance and treatment area

Microneedling: For brighter, firmer skin
“Microneedling is a powerful collagen-stimulating treatment that improves skin texture, fine lines, and scars by creating controlled micro-injuries to trigger skin repair,” says board-certified dermatologist Dr. Fatima Fahs. “In-office microneedling allows for customized depths depending on the area being treated—deeper depths are used for acne scars, while more delicate areas like the forehead require a gentler approach. For an added boost, it can also be combined with PRP (platelet-rich plasma), which delivers growth factors to enhance healing and maximize results.”
Our Social Media Editor, Keely, started with three consecutive microneedling treatments spaced out a month or two apart, then transitioned to occasional maintenance sessions. While multiple sessions will yield the best results, even one treatment can make a noticeable difference.
Keely says her decision to try microneedling came during a dreary Chicago winter when her dry, dull skin was in need of a refresh. While Keely says she experienced some post-treatment redness, the downtime was minimal, and the results speak for themselves.
What to Know Before You Go
- Avoid retinol and strong exfoliants a week before treatment
- Expect redness and mild peeling for a few days after treatment
- Sunscreen is a must post-treatment to protect newly sensitive skin
Chemical Peels: To address acne and texture
“Chemical peels are a great way to refresh and rejuvenate your skin, with different types offering unique benefits depending on your skin concerns,” Dr. Fahs says. “Mini peels, like a Jessner’s peel, are perfect for achieving a radiant glow before a big event, as they gently exfoliate the skin with little to no downtime,”
After years of battling hormonal breakouts and acne scars, our Director of Marketing, Meagan, finally saw real results after committing to a series of three peels spaced 6-8 weeks apart. Now, with occasional maintenance treatments, she says her skin stays clear, smooth, and glowing—without the endless cycle of trying new serums and hoping for the best.
Not sure which type of peel is best for you? “Salicylic acid-based peels are excellent for targeting acne and oil control, and they tend to be safe for darker skin tones due to their lower risk of pigmentation issues,” Dr. Fahs says. “For deeper resurfacing, TCA peels can effectively improve sun spots, fine lines, and uneven skin texture, revealing a smoother, more youthful complexion.”
What to Know Before You Go:
- Expect peeling and flaking for up to a week post-treatment
- Avoid direct sun exposure and use sunscreen diligently
- Stronger peels require more downtime but yield more dramatic results
Lash Lift + Tint: For finally ditching your lash curler
For anyone with straight, stubborn eyelashes that refuse to hold a curl, a lash lift and tint can give you a nearly instant transformation—and our editor, Steph, swears by them.
After relying on eyelash curlers since adolescence with little success, trying a lash lift was a total eye-opener (literally). The treatment makes natural lashes look longer and more defined without the need for mascara or an eyelash curler. A lash lift lasts around 6-8 weeks.
What to Know Before You Go:
- Waterproof mascara is a no-go on top of a lash lift, as it can weaken the lift
- Lashes should be kept dry 24 hours post-treatment
- The treatment takes around 45 minutes

Masseter Botox: To relieve jaw tension
“Masseter Botox is a great option for those struggling with TMJ pain, jaw clenching, or teeth grinding, as it helps relax the overactive masseter muscle, reducing tension and discomfort,” Dr. Fahs says. “A secondary benefit many patients notice is a slimmer, more contoured lower face, as the masseter gradually reduces in size over time.”
If you deal with jaw clenching, teeth grinding, or tension headaches, you know how uncomfortable it can be. For our Account Manager Maddi, masseter Botox quickly became one of the best beauty (and overall wellness) investments she’s ever made. She says that within weeks, she stopped grinding her teeth at night, no longer woke up with a sore jaw, and even noticed that her tension headaches disappeared.
Now, after two years of getting masseter Botox every six months, she’s able to maintain her results with just one session a year. If you’re considering Botox, though, always make sure you’re getting treated by a trusted professional.
What to know before you go:
- You should expect to see full results after around two weeks
- Minor bruising and tenderness at injection sites is normal
- Results can last up to a year, but maintenance treatments may be needed
Teeth Whitening: For a brighter smile
At the end of the day, there’s only so much daily brushing can do in terms of keeping your teeth bright. One of our editors, McKenna, tried countless whitening toothpastes and at-home kits with minimal results, so she finally opted for an in-office treatment—and says difference was truly night and day.
Professional whitening treatments use stronger, more effective bleaching agents than over-the-counter products, which means faster and more noticeable results. Plus, a trained professional ensures even whitening and minimizes sensitivity, which is where DIY methods can commonly fall short. While the cost is obviously higher than drugstore options, the results can last for over a year with proper maintenance.
What to know before you go:
- Avoid coffee, tea, and red wine for at least 48 hours post-treatment
- Some sensitivity is normal, but should fade within a day or two
- Results can last a year or more with regular dental hygiene and occasional touch-ups
