I used to avoid lip products like the plague; constantly needing to re-apply them throughout the day made me feel like putting one on to begin with was completely pointless. That is, until the Fenty Poutsicle Lip Stains came into my life. They stay on no matter what—whether I’m drinking coffee or eating my overpriced Sweetgreen salad for lunch—and allow me to have a perfectly applied pout all day long.
I’ve yet to try a Fenty Beauty product that I don’t love, but the lip stains are truly a work of art (which is no surprise, as RiRi can do no wrong). A few calculated swipes leave me with a perfectly pink pout for a full day or night, and somehow manages to leave my lips more hydrated in the meantime. Application
The Fenty Poutsicle is a hydrating lip stain that goes on glossy and leaves behind a soft tint of color for an effortless, low-maintenance look. One of my favorite things about this product is how customizable it is. With an easy-to-use applicator, you can apply to the center of your lips and gently blend to the edges, giving a bright wash of color; or, you can use my method, which is to line your lips with the stain the way you would a lip liner and blend gently inward with your finger. It leaves me with fuller-looking lips and a lined effect that looks great on its own, or topped off with a balm or gloss.
This lip stain’s color is also customizable by the length of time you choose to leave it on; the longer you leave it on your lips, the deeper and more pigmented the color. On days where I want a more natural flush, I leave it on for about a minute before wiping it off with a tissue; if I want a deeper pop of color, I’ll let it sit as I finish the rest of my makeup, which is usually about five minutes. I’ve found that, unlike other lip stains, it’s completely feather- and bleed-resistant, and always remains within the area I applied it.
This product begins working in seconds, which is both a pro and con for me. It’s amazing how little product you need, but can make applying a bit tedious as you need to clean up any mistakes you make ASAP. I’ve found that having Q-tips on hand for immediate touch ups is the way to go.
Wear
As intended, this lip stain truly lasts all day—I usually apply it around 8am, and the color is still intact when I get home from the office in the evening. Unlike other lip products that can feel dry and uncomfortable, this lip stain is so lightweight, I usually forget I have anything on my lips until I catch my reflection in a mirror. With its unique oil-in-water formula, it is also incredibly hydrating, and doesn’t settle into any cracks or dryness. If I’m heading to happy hour or dinner after work, I’ll usually reapply a quick coat for a little extra punch and will top it off with a gloss or balm.
Removal
Despite lasting all day, this lip stain is incredibly easy to remove with makeup remover. I will note that since it’s not meant to come off with water, you do need some sort of facial cleanser or makeup remover to get it off completely. After my usual nighttime skincare routine, the tint is completely removed from my lips, without any need for scrubbing. I love that despite lasting all day, I can also remove the stain when I need to.
