Flip-flops are making their stylish return for summer 2025—and no, I’m not talking about Old Navy’s $1 doorbuster pairs from the early aughts. Once reserved for beach days and poolside hangs, the humble flip-flop has undergone a chic transformation. This season, expect to see them across your FYP in elevated materials, minimalist silhouettes, and unexpected pairings—proof that what’s old is, once again, very new.

While they’re not the only sandal trend taking off this season, flip-flops are certainly having their moment. From street-style stand-outs to celeb off-duty looks, they’re popping up in ways we didn’t quite expect. It comes as both a surprise—especially in a season marked by bold, individual style—and a welcomed reprieve from the fussy, statement sandals we’ve been navigating for the past few years. Today’s flip-flops are an easy, affordable way to ground some of the season’s louder fashion moments. When paired with a casual sun dress or a flowy maxi skirt, the look is instantly refined and polished—never overdone. Best of all? There’s hardly a look they don’t work with. Some fashion-goers are even styling them for dinner, or more controversially, the office—though I’m still undecided on that one—for an effortless approach to summer dressing.

From elevated leather styles to Gigi Hadid’s new collaboration with Havaianas, there’s a flip-flop for everyone waiting to be worn for summer 2025. Ahead, we’re sharing the flip-flop-centered looks inspiring us right now, along with our editors’ favorite pairs of the season.

How to style flip-flops for summer 2025

With a blazer and dress

When we said that flip-flops go with everything, we meant it. Take this look, for example. It’s an outfit that could easily be dressed up with heels, yet still feels elevated with a simple flip-flop. The trick to the styling? Balance. Sandwich your casual staples between more tailored pieces for a summer outfit formula that works every time.

With a maxi skirt

Looking to instantly elevate your flip-flops? Ditch the denim cut-offs and opt for a full-length skirt instead for an easy yet sophisticated summer look. Keep it casual with a denim jacket or up the ante with a blazer or cardigan draped over your shoulders. With a base this versatile, the options are endless.

With a tank and low-maintenance bottom

The fashion set’s latest styling hack? Tying a cardigan around the waist—and no, not for functionality’s sake. It’s a great way to add texture, and in this case, an extra dose of color to an otherwise neutral look. Most importantly, it contrasts perfectly with understated flip-flops.

With jeans and a button-up

Around here, a button-up shirt is summer’s MVP. Whether you pair yours with boxer shorts, denim cut-offs, or—as seen here—straight-leg jeans, the look is always cool and collected. Throw on a baseball hat for a laid-back, sporty-chic finish.
