Neutrals exchanged for bright colors, dainty jewelry swapped with statement-making shells—the summer season comes with maximalism a plenty. This time of the year allows for an excess of kitsch and an affinity for a theme (if tiny fish motifs haven’t made their way to your social media feeds yet, let this be a PSA that many have coined summer 2025 as “sardine summer“). And while that all makes for a good time, an occasional reminder that summertime can be an opportunity for simplicity in dressing is always welcome, and Kaia Gerber just presented herself as the poster child of timeless summer style.
turns out, you don't have to spend all of your free time cleaning
On June 12, the model attended the premiere of Gonzo Girl at the Tribeca Film Festival in a cherry red dress that featured a scattering of tiny white polka dots. With a black east-west shoulder bag, white heeled ballet flats, and gold hoops, the look exuded the French je ne sais quoi that feels especially apt for the summer months.

While the knee-skimming dress featured a halter top that gave it a distinctly retro feel, the chosen accessories coupled with Gerber’s relaxed waves and minimal makeup helped ensure the look felt timeless rather than dated. It was the kind of outfit she could have pulled straight out of the back of her mom’s closet (though given that the dress is currently available, we’ve ruled that out of being the case).
After being largely treated as a neutral on September’s spring/ summer 2025 runways, polka dots secured a spot at the top of the year’s trend reports. Designers at Prada, Balmain, and Valentino featured polka dots on a slew of modern silhouettes that made the nostalgic print feel completely fresh, but Gerber proved that the wheel doesn’t need to be reinvented for the pattern to be wearable throughout the summer months. While the majority of the season’s dotted obsession has been featured in black and white, Gerber’s incorporation of the print in a punchy red gave it a seasonality that made it feel appropriate for daytime excursions and date nights alike.
