There’s something incredibly magical about reaching the spring. If you live somewhere with cold, dark, gloomy winters like me, finally getting to spend time in the sun makes everything feel a little brighter. But so many of us don’t spend enough time spring cleaning our skincare routines as a new season rolls around! Although most of us know to add richer moisturizers and eye creams in the winter, we don’t focus on the swaps we should be making when spring arrives.
Great for stocking stuffers, gift add-ons, or stylish party favors for holiday gatherings, these matchboxes are a fun, affordable gift for your astrology-obsessed besties. Use code EVERYGIRL20 for 20% off your first order!
If you want your skin to feel like a total dream, making a few essential skincare swaps will do the trick. This year, make your skin look and feel as good as you do while listening to Harry Styles on a bright spring day.
1. Add a glowy moisturizer
While you probably can reach for something lighter than your thicker winter moisturizers, focus on one that adds some glowiness to your skin. This is a great swap because you’ll be able to keep this in your routine through spring and summer alike.
For an affordable option, try the Bliss ex-glow-sion moisturizer. It’s velvety smooth and will keep your skin from getting dry (raise your hand if springtime allergies make your skin act up!) without making you feel oily. I use this every morning and every night, and I swear it’s made the biggest difference in keeping my skin dewy and radiant.
2. Try a lightweight concealer
Everyone appreciates a good full-coverage concealer, like the cult-favorite Tarte Shape Tape. But in the spring, a good way to brighten up your skin is to switch it up and use a radiant, glowy concealer. For the most natural look, try the Urban Decay Stay Naked Concealer. It has a matte finish that actually blends into your skin and blurs imperfections without feeling cakey. This is my favorite concealer by far—it provides amazing coverage but feels like you aren’t wearing anything!
If you want to branch out to a glowier spring concealer and are willing to splurge a little, Armani Beauty’s Luminous Silk Concealer is absolutely gorgeous. It’s a light to medium coverage, and it gives your skin the prettiest glow from the inside out with caffeine and vitamin E.
3. Swap in a nourishing eye cream
Eye cream is always a good idea. It keeps you moisturized, helps provide a great base for makeup, and helps you prevent age lines and wrinkles around your eyes. But in the spring, most of us forgo eye cream right when we need it most. Whether you’re dealing with seasonal allergies and eye irritation or you’re just ready for your glowiest skin yet, eye cream makes a huge difference for your skin. My holy-grail eye cream is Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado—it feels cooling and hydrating, and if you use it overnight, you’re going to wake up with truly dewy, radiant skin around your eyes.
4. Change your body skincare routine
With warmer weather comes more opportunities to spend time out in the sun. If you want soft, smooth, and glowy skin that feels amazing and makes you confident for every photo opp, you should focus on body scrubs and body moisturizers that work for you.
In the spring, a sugar scrub helps alleviate dead skin from the winter and makes you super soft. I love the affordable body scrubs from Raw Sugar (my favorite is the Mango & Coconut one) because they have tons of moisturizing oils right inside the scrub.
You should also incorporate body moisturizers that help you feel your best. Soft skin feels amazing, and in the spring, you can choose lotions and body butters with radiance-boosting ingredients to feel extra glowy. I recommend literally any body butter from The Body Shop, and they work year-round (they’re super hydrating without being too thick).
5. Don’t forget SPF
Although ideally you’d use SPF year-round no matter the weather, most of us don’t remember SPF when it’s super cold outside. In the spring, update your SPF for a lightweight product that will up the glow (or help mattify you if you’re oily).
