"Look, I’m not saying I’d trade my couch for a cubicle, but I wouldn’t mind the excuse to dress up every now and then. As someone who once reveled in the idea of working from home in PJs, I’ve developed a surprising level of aversion to it over the years.
Somewhere along the way, around the time working from home became my new normal, the fun, almost rebellious routine of waking up minutes before your first meeting and logging on half-dressed (blazer on top, pajama pants on the bottom) lost its appeal. So while we may never return to the office full time, many of us still yearn for that same feeling of spending the hours of 9 to 5 looking and feeling our best, with a handful of comfortable, yet put-together work-from-home outfit ideas.
Though I get paid to shop for a living, I’ll admit, sourcing a pair of comfortable pants, let alone an entire outfit, has proven to be a surprisingly challenging task. Fortunately, though, I’ve managed to muster up a slew of repeat work-from-home looks for wherever I may find myself throughout the week—whether that’s the kitchen table, the local coffee shop, or—don’t tell my boss—my bed.
5 Easy Work-From-Home Outfits to Wear in 2025
1. An Elevated Sweat Set
It feels like I blinked and four years went by. The current condition of my sweat-sets—once in their prime during peak COVID times, now ratty and worn—are partly to blame for my newfound aversion to sweats. Luckily, brands have taken note, and the demand for more elevated at-home pairings is being met with a resurgence of stylish new sets. The key to dressing up the more relaxed duo? Play up your accessories (yes, even at home).
2. Silk Pants and a Crewneck
Though not exactly the first thing to come to mind when shopping for an alternative to sweatpants, silk pants have an elastic waistband and an easy fit that make them a dream to work in throughout the day. Since they’re elevated enough on their own, you won’t need more than a quality crewneck and a draped cardigan to top them off.
3. Double Denim
Nine times out of ten, you’ll find me working away in my living room in baggy jeans and an oversized button-up. As backwards as it sounds, I now prefer jeans to sweats; I find that they’re just as comfortable, yet make me feel so much more productive. If I need to step out, I throw on loafers or mules and my outfit’s as good as any other photo-ready look.
4. Easy Pants and a Cardigan
The majority of us likely aren’t sporting a blazer around the house, but I think we can all agree that adding an extra layer before a Zoom call can help us feel a touch more presentable. That’s why I like to keep a few easy, throw-on-at-the-last-minute cardigans on hand. Plus, if you knew me in real life, you’d know that I love a good robe, and a cardigan just happens to be the next best thing. Look for pants with an elastic waist to round out the look.
5. Cargo Pants and a Sweater
Not to make this all about me, but I recently bought a pair of cargo pants from Gap, and what I thought was a reckless impulse buy actually turned out to be my best purchase of 2024. It’s inexplicable, really, but they seem to go with everything, and even offer a bit of reprieve when I don’t feel like stepping into jeans for the fourth day in a row. Much like silk pants, a crewneck tee or sweater is about the only thing you’ll need to finish styling a set of cargos.
