If you’re in the dating world, forgive me for reminding you how rough it is. Looking for love seems harder than ever, and dating apps only produce boring, surface-level conversations that end as fast as they start. It’s easy to lose hope when all you’re getting out of your matches is a “hi” and “how are you?” just to get ghosted right after. Even if you want to get to know someone better, boring prompts lead to boring conversations, which makes real connections even harder to find. Thankfully, Hinge experts recognized this struggle and collaborated with renowned psychotherapist and relationship expert Esther Perel to introduce a whole new set of profile prompts, themed as “Your World,” which are said to lead to more genuine conversations and better first dates. If you’re ready to throw away dead-end exchanges and make actual connections, here’s everything you need to know about the new “Your World” Hinge prompts.

What are “Your World” Hinge prompts?

If there’s one thing I appreciate about Hinge, it’s that they see how frustrating the modern dating world can be, and they’re truly trying to make it easier. This collaboration with Perel proves that. As the creator of the card game “Where Should We Begin?” which encourages storytelling and meaningful dialogue between partners, friends, or family members, Perel played a big part in crafting prompts that would lead to more honesty and vulnerability on the app. The result? 10 prompts, themed as “Your World,” that are designed to move users away from small talk that goes nowhere.

These new prompts ask daters to reflect on their world, AKA the “people who shape them and the experiences that move them.” They help singles lean into conversations about who they really are and what a relationship might look like together, which is a refreshing change from the prompts that have grown a little tired over the years. For example, commonly used Hinge prompts include “I want someone who…” and “I’m weirdly attracted to…” which don’t often lead to thoughtful interactions beyond physical attraction. Compare those to “Your World” prompts, such as “The kindest thing someone has ever done for me,” which invites a conversation about a moment that has deeply impacted your life and even gives a little insight into how you receive love.

How to use “Your World” Hinge prompts to spark deeper conversations

“Your World” Hinge prompts are intentionally set up to push you and a potential partner to open up about deeper parts of your life and the things that make you, you. So, as long as you’re unapologetically yourself and open-minded to other people, you’ll have deeper conversations. Being honest about what you’re passionate about and what you value is the best way to have conversations with true meaning.

These prompts help initiate both serious and light-hearted conversations, getting you to open up about things like why you can’t help but take care of your friends on a night out, the conspiracy theory you wholeheartedly believe in, or why you prefer your couch to the rest of the outside world. These simple yet specific conversations help you learn a lot more about your matches from the start and ultimately build more realistic connections on and off the app. With that said, answering prompts truthfully and being confident about what “Your World” is really like can make all the difference in your connections. You never know what will help you hit it off with someone else and lead to a great first date.

“Your World” Hinge prompts and suggested responses

In my friend group, I’m the one who…

Potential responses:

  • gets everyone home safely
  • is always down for a 2 a.m. adventure
  • always knows how everyone is feeling

What role you serve in your social circle can define you more than you think. Are you the funny one? The planner? The “mom” of the group? This is a great way for you to express your traits in a social setting, as well as understand a potential partner’s. For example, if you’re the friend who “always knows how everyone is feeling,” a match might feel like you’re a safe place to land and aren’t afraid of big feelings, which can help form strong bonds. As with any prompt, you can approach this more seriously or lightheartedly, as long as you remain true to who you are.

Something my pet thinks about me:

Potential responses:

  • “You’re getting food delivered to the door… again?”
  • “Why do you always talk to me in that weird voice?”
  • “You are my whole world, and I love those organic treats you give me.”

This one can definitely inspire some goofiness, but it’s also a great way to connect with another animal lover. How much someone else loves their pet is a total green flag, too. But your response could also imply a habit of yours or even how caring you are for others. For example, if your pet thinks, “You are my whole world, and I love those organic treats you give me,” you could explain how much you (definitely) spoil your pet with the bougiest items or even the emotional connection you share with your furry friend.

The kindest thing someone has ever done for me:

Potential responses:

  • Repaired my favorite broken bracelet
  • Told the waiter my order was wrong when I was too afraid to
  • Brought me back a souvenir from their vacation

Whether it’s a grand gesture or something small yet meaningful, this prompt can say a lot about your love language and how you feel appreciated as a person. It initiates that conversation with a prospective partner and quite literally is the blueprint of how to love you. For example, if the kindest thing someone has done for you is repair your broken bracelet, you might explain how your love language is acts of service.

An award my family would give me:

Potential responses:

  • Most terrifying “hangry” behavior
  • Most sarcastic comebacks in the family group chat
  • Most likely to drop everything to help out

Getting to know someone’s family dynamics early on can tell you a lot about them. These prompts make that feel less intimidating and even a little fun. For example, if you chose the award “Most sarcastic comebacks in the family group chat,” you could explain your dry sense of humor and how your family loves to joke with each other. This prompt can definitely get deep and maybe even a little serious, but it can also be lighthearted if that’s what you think represents you and your family best.

You’d never know it, but I…

Potential responses:

  • am a huge softie
  • nerd out on nature documentaries
  • get super anxious before dates

Maybe you’ve been misunderstood before or just want to reveal a secret passion of yours—either way, you can use this prompt to tell a partner what you wish people knew about you. For example, if you want to reveal that you “get super anxious before dates,” you can bond with a potential partner about those nerves and get through them together. It’s a great way to connect over something you enjoy or to set the record straight if you have a raging RBF in all your pictures (like me).

I’m in my element when…

Potential responses:

  • I’m meeting new people
  • I’m alone with a book on the couch
  • I’m baking chocolate chip cookies

This prompt helps set up a conversation about comfort and what areas of life you feel most confident in. Whether it’s an activity or just a situation that you excel in, you can talk to a partner about what lights you up and maybe even, in turn, what brings you down. For example, if you’re in your element when you’re “baking chocolate chip cookies,” you might spark a great conversation about good food and love languages all in one go. Or, if you prefer to be “alone with a book on the couch,” you can explain how alone time is what centers you.

Before we meet, you should listen to…

Potential responses:

  • A Crime Junkie episode
  • As many Taylor Swift albums as you can
  • The Harry Potter film scores

This is a fun way to reveal a little about yourself while also setting up first date conversations. You can reveal a podcast that covers topics you’re interested in or your favorite music. If you recommend a Crime Junkie episode, you invite conversations about your love for true crime or what got you interested in that topic. Bonus points if you jokingly say, “There will be a quiz on this.”

I could stay up all night talking about…

Potential responses:

  • What books were better than their movie adaptations
  • Outer space being endless
  • The best way to drink Diet Coke

This prompt is a yapper’s dream come true. Conspiracy theories, celebrity drama, a favorite movie or show… the options are endless, and so are the conversations to come. If you’re passionate about “outer space being endless,” you might spark some amazing conversations about the existence of life itself or how we really might be a speck on a flower (Horton Hears a Who style). This is a fun way to really learn someone’s quirky side. Plus, being passionate is sexy, IMO, even if it’s about something kind of silly.

It’s not a vacation unless:

Potential responses:

  • I get to sleep in until 10
  • There are excursions and plans daily
  • We do a local foodie tour

Everyone has their own definition of a vacation—what true rest and relaxation look like to you might not be the same as others. A planned-to–the-minute vacation might sound like a nightmare, or vice versa for a trip with no set plans at all. For example, if a vacation where you “get to sleep in until 10” sounds like pure bliss, a partner who wants a packed itinerary every day might not be the best match for you.

Where I go when I want to feel a little more like myself:

Potential responses:

  • The lake by my house
  • A guided meditation class
  • My garden

Spaces and places can define us, and as cliché as that sounds, I think we all have a space that makes us feel more in tune with ourselves and our bodies. This could be spiritual, related to a hobby, or even an important memory or experience. If you feel most like yourself at “a guided meditation class,” you can explain the peace and connection you make with your body during meditation and how important that is to you. You could even use this as a date idea, where you go to a class together to deepen your bond.
