an apple a day keeps the afternoon slump away

Some people have a coffee order. I have a can rotation. Right now, Bloom Energy’s Crisp Apple holds the top slot.

Coffee and I parted ways a while ago because it’s too acidic for my stomach. (Is this 30???) I love a matcha latte as much as the next girl, but good luck finding ceremonial grade at the airport. So those mini fridges by the checkout and I have a very committed relationship.

Just because I’m cracking open 180mg of caffeine at 2 p.m. doesn’t mean I’m throwing caution to the wind. I’ve dropped brands over a single “less than 2%” ingredient. Bloom has never come close to getting cut.

I’m also a lifelong green apple girl. Jolly Ranchers, concession stand suckers, Jones Soda—I’ve tried them all. So when an apple energy drink earns a permanent spot in my rotation, that means something. Consider this my official Bloom Energy Crisp Apple review.

Bloom Energy Crisp Apple review

I went in expecting green apple candy. Instead, Bloom Crisp Apple tastes like sparkling apple cider. I find some fall flavors are heavy and sugary, which is the last thing I want at 2 p.m. when I’m trying to power through slide decks. This one is fresh enough to give you the lift you’re looking for.

The carbonation is light, so it doesn’t drown out the flavor. Just enough fizz to give it a juicy apple bite. It’s also not too sweet, and there’s no weird energy drink aftertaste.

Yes, it tastes like fall. But it’s not a caramel apple or a cinnamon apple, so it doesn’t feel locked to October. I’ll be drinking it year-round.

This is the one I bargain with myself over. I woke up this morning already thinking about the can on my walk. Then I spent the afternoon telling myself I didn’t need a second one. (I’ll cave after I file this draft.)

Why Bloom stays in my rotation

  1. The caffeine comes from a natural source. Each can of Bloom Sparkling Energy has 180mg of caffeine from green coffee bean extract. That’s a solid dose, and the source is right there on the label.
  2. There’s zero sugar. Every can has 0g sugar and just 10 calories. It’s an easy afternoon pick-me-up without a sugar rush attached.
  3. It’s built for smoother energy. Bloom adds L-theanine, which the brand includes for energy without the crash. For anyone who’s had a jittery can and regretted it, that’s a big part of the appeal.
  4. It has ingredients most energy drinks skip. Bloom adds prebiotic fiber and Oligonol, a lychee-derived antioxidant you won’t find on most competitors’ labels. It’s one reason Bloom stays in my rotation when other brands get cut.
