A movie night is always one of the highlights of my autumn. It’s the perfect time for grabbing a cozy throw, pouring yourself a mug of cider, and rewatching one of your favorite fall movie characters on-screen. My annual rewatch of You’ve Got Mail always marks the beginning of the season for me, but I have a laundry list of movies I like to watch at least once between the beginning of September and the end of October.
As an astrology girlie, I can’t help but muse over all of my favorite fall movie characters’ star signs. I love seeing my Scorpio friends’ traits in Winifred Sanderson of Hocus Pocus, or identifying the Capricorn qualities in Hermione every time I rewatch Harry Potter. Read on to discover which classic fall movie character you are, based on your zodiac sign.
Aries
Harry Potter, Harry Potter
Starting off strong with Harry Potter, the boy who lived. Some might say that Harry leans towards Leo (he is a Gryffindor after all), but his natural leadership, courage, and confidence are Aries traits, too. Not to mention, he’s the youngest Seeker in a century—which, for an Aries who loves to win, is a major plus. Later on in the series, Harry becomes a bit impulsive as he starts to snap at his friends and wants to beat Voldemort alone. Aries is a fire sign, and Harry’s desire to be independent while being a bit hot-headed screams Aries.
Taurus
Kathleen Kelly, You’ve Got Mail
The idea behind having a Meg Ryan fall is to create cozy, romantic moments all throughout the season. Kathleen Kelly is a major part of this vision, so how could she not be a Taurus? Meg Ryan’s character in You’ve Got Mail lives in the coziest little brownstone in all of New York. She owns her mother’s bookstore and wants to keep her stable, familiar business open and thriving. Taurus girlies are pros at leaning into all of life’s little pleasures. They love all things cozy and tend to be a bit stubborn about the things they hold dear. Kathleen Kelly is the ultimate Taurus, and I love her for it.
Gemini
Coraline, Coraline
Coraline quite literally navigates two worlds, something Gemini knows all too well. As a Gemini myself, I understand that one of this sign’s gifts is juggling multiple perspectives at once. Coraline bounces between the real world and the world that lives behind the tiny door of her new home and honestly, it’s relatable. Any Gemini will tell you their inner world is vivid, just like Coraline’s. Coraline is innately curious and highly adaptable when it comes to the new world she finds herself in. She’s also quick-witted when there’s danger afoot, so she’s flexible just like any Gemini.
Cancer
Bella Swan, Twilight
Cancers are deep feelers. Bella Swan from Twilight experiences both love and fear very intensely throughout the series, which makes her a sensitive Cancer in my eyes. Her relationships are at the center of her story, and her love for Edward and their daughter is fierce. Cancers are family-oriented—they love the idea of home and will protect their loved ones no matter what. Bella embodies all of these traits as an emotional introvert. Plus, Cancers are a crab symbol, with a soft underbelly and two claws—or in Bella’s case, vampire fangs—that aren’t afraid to pinch.
Leo
Cher Horowitz, Clueless
Cher is a style icon and the most popular girl at her high school, so she’s a Leo through and through. Even though Clueless is set in Beverly Hills, where there isn’t much of a fall vibe, this is a classic back-to-school movie. Leo loves being the center of attention and tends to have a flair for the dramatic. Cher’s flawless outfits and fluffy pens certainly draw attention, but even with all of her focus on appearance, she is big-hearted and loyal to her friends. Whenever I want to channel the confidence to turn heads with my style and generosity, I think of Cher Horowitz.
Virgo
Marta Cabrera, Knives Out
Meticulous Virgos don’t miss anything. They’re excellent at their jobs, are highly organized and well-put-together, and care deeply about accuracy. Marta Cabrera of Knives Out is modest, humble, and was quick to realize she might have accidentally given her patient a lethal injection of medication at the start of the film. Virgo represents purity, and no spoilers here, but Marta is incredibly pure-hearted. She’s kind, affectionate, and always sees the best in others. Earth signs like Virgo are grounded and level-headed, and she serves that purpose well in this whodunnit murder mystery.
Libra
Sally Albright, When Harry Met Sally
I’ll have what she’s having! Sally from When Harry Met Sally is charming and sociable, and has many ideals when it comes to relationships—all key Libra traits. She’s impeccably dressed throughout the film as well (more Meg Ryan fall inspo) and I’ve never met a Libra who doesn’t have a fantastic sense of style. This sign is also known for being a bit indecisive, and the way Sally mulls over her relationships is classic Libra. No one charms like this air sign, and Meg Ryan’s characters can simply do no wrong.
Scorpio
Winifred Sanderson, Hocus Pocus
Hocus Pocus is one of my fall favorites, and Winifred Sanderson emits big-time Scorpio energy. She’s a very powerful witch, she’s fiercely loyal to her sisters, and she has a taste for revenge and power. I mean, she wants to be young forever, she sent poor Billy Butcherson to the grave with his mouth sewed shut, and she turned Thackery Binx into an immortal cat. She’s got deep feelings and can hold a grudge, much like any Scorpio. This Sanderson sister is simply iconic, and her trademark Scorpio determination and resourcefulness are admirable, no matter how unhinged her goals may be.
Sagittarius
Jo March, Little Women
Some might consider Little Women to be a holiday movie, but I always get the itch to watch it in the fall. Jo March is arguably one of the most well-known fictional characters of our time, and her adventurous spirit reminds me of fiery Sagittarius. Sags are playful, independent, and they love to travel. Like a bold Sagittarius, Jo pushes traditional gender roles to the side and makes her way to New York City to pursue her writing. She has a thirst for knowledge, she can be quite blunt (she refuses a marriage proposal by saying it would be terrible), and her restlessness at home whisks her away to a new city and a new chapter in her story—all tell-tale signs of a true Sag.
Capricorn
Hermione Granger, Harry Potter
Hermione Granger is the brains behind the Harry Potter trio. She is hard-working, incredibly disciplined, and knows how to get a task done, whether it’s acing an exam or defeating the Dark Lord. I want a Capricorn by my side if I have a big project ahead of me, and that’s exactly the role Hermione fills in the Harry Potter series. Let’s face it, Harry wouldn’t have been able to defeat Voldemort without Hermione’s major Capricorn energy. As the smartest, hardest-working sign of the zodiac, most Capricorns probably already know they’re the Hermione of their friend group.
Aquarius
Wednesday Addams, The Addams Family
Aquarius signs like to march to the beat of their own drums, and no one does that better than Wednesday Addams. Especially in Addams Family Values, and even in the acclaimed Netflix series Wednesday, this character is an individual through and through. Her black pigtails and deadpan facial expressions are a bit eccentric and highly unconventional. This in turn makes her original and one-of-a-kind, which innovative Aquarius loves. While Aquarius signs might occasionally feel like outsiders—like Jenna Ortega’s character did when she initially arrived at Nevermore Academy—they always find their people, much like Wednesday herself.
Pisces
Sally, The Nightmare Before Christmas
Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas is dreamy, romantic, and wears her emotions on her sleeve—all signs that she is a fluid Pisces. She deeply loves Jack Skellington and often dreams about a different life with him, proudly displaying the Pisces ability to create escapist fantasies. Even her song, “Sally’s Song,” sounds ethereal, emotional, and full of longing that only a Pisces could conjure up. We love a sensitive soul, and Sally certainly is one. Much like most Pisces signs, Sally is a little bit restless, but once she breaks through her own limiting beliefs, she can let all of her deep feelings shine through.
