As I’m sure you’ve heard by now, Pantone’s announced its 2025 Color of the Year: Mocha Mousse. The subdued color choice sent shockwaves through the fashion crowd after seasons of shades like Barbie pink and Brat Summer-inspired neon green reigning supreme, but it begs the question: Will the rest of this year’s key color trends follow suit?
100 hours of hydration, plump skin, and a finish so soft it feels like July. Consider this your winter skincare soulmate.
However elated fashion people might be for the rise of a versatile neutral, the excitement isn’t to be confused with support for a return to minimalism. Instead, designers are pairing the demure color choice with a range of expressive hues—like marigold and olive green—on behalf of this year’s maximalist agenda.
Ready to expand your color palette? These are the six color trends that will define 2025.
1. Apple Red
Although burgundy has been the staple shade for the last several months, support for a more classic red is beginning to take shape. The fiery shade was repeatedly sandwiched between swaths of white and navy, signaling a rise in patriotic combos in 2025. For the designers who didn’t rely on the classic Americana combo, many head-to-toe apple red ensembles were seen parading down the runways, too.
2. Pale Pink
Whether it’s due to the rise of Glinda or Millennials missing their beloved eponymous pink, pale shades of pink are coming as a reprieve from the bright Barbiecore pink we’ve found ourselves tethered to in recent years. Ease into the reinstated movement with ballet pink-like separates, choosing from rosy-colored flats, cardiganss, trousers, and more.
3. Mocha Mousse
Not to be confused with your go-to Dunkin’ order, Pantone’s Color of the Year, mocha mousse, is leading the surge in the influx of coffee-colored bags, shoes, and apparel; however, the soft, warm brown shade is not to be confused with a return to the basics. Designers reinstated the maximalist memo by sending mocha-colored ensembles down the runway paired with brightly colored separates and mixed-metal jewels.
4. Midnight Blue
Years ago, you couldn’t get me to touch the color navy with a 10-foot pole, but alas, times have changed. As it stands today, it’s alleged that the inky color may very well be the new black (2010 me is shocked, to say the least). If haven’t yet made the jump, buyers beware: With new navy arrivals this good, your usual hankering for black doesn’t stand a chance. Though designers took to a range of midnight-blue materials during September’s spring ’25 presentations, it’s navy suede, like Alaia’s East-West bag, that I can’t stop thinking about.
5. Rich Marigold
Sprinkled across last year’s spring ‘25 runways were traces of rich marigold, which had a clear ability to act as a near-neutral or stand-alone statement based on styling. The yellow hue has been most notably spotted in Bottega Veneta’s latest collection, but with its rising popularity, the shade can already be found on just about every affordable retailer’s virtual shelf.
6. Olive Green
As someone who orders their martini extra dirty, you say the word “olive” and my ears perk up. This year’s green of choice comes as a welcomed respite after a neon green, brat-filled summer (which is not to negate my love for Charli XCX, but let’s be honest: My days cosplaying as Nickelodeon slime were limited). Grassy shades, which were given their stamp of approval by designers like Victoria Beckham, act as a chameleon when color-blocking with marigold or as a palate cleanser when styling with mocha.
