1. Farmers market swap party
I’ve been seeing these parties on my FYP for months now, and summer is the perfect time to host your own farmers market at home! The idea is simple: Have each guest bring a homemade treat to share with everyone, then spend the party “shopping” all the goodies. I’ve seen people bring homemade jam, granola, sourdough bread, coffee syrups, herb bundles, sweet treats like cookies and candy, and even handmade crafts like magnets and cards. Whatever you decide to contribute, it’s best to package up individual servings so it’s easy to grab one of each item. For the setup, you can go all out with custom signs and stickers, or you can keep it casual with a simple table laid out with all the items—it’s totally up to you. 2. Summer solstice dinner party
As the longest day of the year and the first official day of summer, the summer solstice is a perfect excuse to celebrate. This year, it falls on June 21, so set aside the date to put on a sundress, make flower crowns with the girls, and serve food that only comes this time of year. Think skewers and sweet corn on the grill, overflowing salads, fresh-cut watermelon, summery batch cocktails, and the like. The beauty of summer produce is that you really don’t have to do much to make it taste delicious. Thick tomato slices drizzled with olive oil, prosciutto-wrapped cantaloupe, and grilled peaches with vanilla ice cream are all crowd-pleasers and so easy to throw together for a summer solstice dinner party.
3. At-home café
I’ve hosted an at-home café before, and it was so fun and easy to throw together! The beauty of this party idea is that it’s perfect for any time of year—you just make the menu match the season. For a summer at-home café, I would serve drinks like iced coffee, matcha, iced tea, and lemonade, with a few seasonal syrups on hand for guests to customize their drinks. Raspberry or lavender syrup would both be amazing options! For treats, head to the grocery store or a local bakery to stock up on pastries or have guests bring a batch of baked goods to share. This is another gathering that can be super relaxed, or you can go the extra mile with custom banners and stickers for your coffee cups. You could even give your café a name!
4. Ice cream float night
Summer parties don’t always have to revolve around big meals, and what’s cuter than an ice cream float night? Grab a gallon of vanilla ice cream and a few of your favorite sodas, then invite the girls over for floats. I honestly can’t remember the last time I had a root beer float, and even just thinking about it has me dreaming of a Diet Coke float or one made with orange soda! Set up a little float-making station with all the necessary supplies and let guests scoop and pour their own refreshing treat. 5. Fishermancore dinner party
Growing up, I lived in the Washington, D.C. area and spent a few weeks every July in New England. Every summer was an East Coast summer for me, so I’ve loved seeing the fishermancore trend bringing those same vibes all over the country. Even if you don’t live anywhere near the coast, you can easily lean into the lifestyle with a fisherman-inspired dinner party. This would be an evening filled with seafood and nautical-inspired decor—lots of blue and white stripes, seashell and fish motifs, and your best fisherman aesthetic outfit. If you’re down to splurge, lobster rolls would make an incredible main dish along with sides like corn on the cob and potato chips. Otherwise, classic recipes like seafood pasta, seared scallops, or crab cakes would also be totally on-theme (and absolutely delicious).
6. Craft night
My friends and I love a craft project, and doing something creative together is always a good time. For a fun girls’ night in, host a craft night dedicated to a summery-themed project. Customize canvas totes with paint or patches, make beaded necklaces or bag charms, turn seashells into trinket dishes or magnets, fill in summery coloring book pages—the possibilities are endless! While I never want to rush through summer, I’ll admit that fall is my favorite season. For the girlies who simply cannot wait for Halloween, a Summerween party is the perfect themed gathering to throw this season, and I personally would love an invite! To put a summer twist on this beloved October holiday, carve watermelons instead of pumpkins, serve burgers with jack-o’-lantern slices of cheese, and put on a spooky movie while you snack on candy for dessert. It’s also a great excuse for a costume party, so get a head start on your costume for October!
8. Summer camp party
Did anyone else dream of going to sleep-away camp over the summer, but never actually got to go? Thankfully, we can make those childhood dreams a reality as adults by throwing a summer camp party. Hot dogs, s’mores, camping in the backyard? Why not! You could play classic summer camp games (tug-of-war, three-legged races, cornhole!) and offer activities, too. How cute would it be to tie-dye t-shirts or make friendship bracelets? End the night with a backyard bonfire, spooky stories, and plenty of marshmallows on deck.
9. Spritz cocktail party
Summer means spritz season. A mix of bitter liqueur, sparkling wine, and soda water—plus fruit and herb garnishes on ice—spritzes are refreshing, delicious, and meant to be enjoyed during this time of year. Cocktail parties are so chic, so why not host a party inspired by your go-to summer cocktail? I’d argue the Aperol spritz remains the most popular drink of the summer, but for this party, I recommend serving a few different options. I personally love a Hugo spritz (swapping Aperol for St-Germain elderflower liqueur) and a Limoncello spritz! To keep costs down, you could ask guests to bring a bottle of bubbly or their favorite liqueur. Then slice up some citrus for garnishes, set out some glassware, and start mixing!
10. Christmas in July
Why wait until December to get in the Christmas spirit? If you love the holidays, Christmas in July makes such a fun summer party idea. Pull your tree out of storage, hang some Christmas lights, and ask your guests to bring a gift for a gift exchange. To put a summery twist on the festive theme, cut watermelon slices into tree shapes, serve frozen hot chocolate, and have a “snowball fight” with white water balloons. You can even make it “snow” with a bubble machine!
