I Live in Athleisure—Here’s How I Find the Best Pieces Without Spending My Entire Paycheck

A few weeks ago, I ran into my fiancé’s parents at the grocery store—mid-aisle, holding a bag of shredded cheese, and wearing the same college sweatshirt I’ve had since 2015. My hair was in a claw clip that had seen better days, and my leggings were one squat away from retirement. Functional? Sure. Cute enough to pass as though I have my life together? Not even close.

As a former collegiate athlete who still works out six days a week and works from home the rest of the time, activewear is basically my everyday uniform. But somewhere between college workouts and adulthood, I stopped investing in it. I wanted to upgrade to outfits that were comfortable enough for workout classes, structured enough for running errands, and stylish enough to wear to brunch without spending my entire paycheck to get there.

That’s when a few of my coworkers recommended the Wantable Active Edit: a personalized styling service that sends you a curated box of activewear based on your style and fit preferences. I wasn’t totally convinced it would live up to the hype, but after trying it for myself, I’ve got thoughts.

Why finding good athleisure isn’t always easy

If you’ve ever added a pair of $120 leggings to your cart only to immediately question every decision you’ve ever made, same. So many of the it-girl activewear brands are seriously expensive—and honestly, not always worth it. On the flip side, more affordable options often look slouchy after one wash or don’t hold up mid-workout. Finding that sweet spot between price, performance, and polish? Not easy.

As someone who rotates between strength training, running, barre, and working from home (with a grocery run or coffee date in between), I need pieces that do more than just look cute. The fit has to be right. The fabric has to hold up. And if I’m going to live in it six days a week, it needs to make me feel good—whether I’m sweating or socializing.

How (and why) Wantable works

I hadn’t used Wantable and wasn’t totally sure what to expect. The idea of handing over styling control made me a little nervous, but after hearing about my coworkers’ positive experiences and getting real with the fact that my current “process” was a bust, I decided to give it a go. Plus, I was intrigued by the promise of a curated box full of pieces from quality activewear brands that I may not know about. Spoiler: It absolutely delivered.

The ordering process was so easy. Their style quiz is thorough and helped me narrow down my preferences—plus, I could link my Pinterest board for inspo (my favorite part). It felt like the perfect mix of personal and low-pressure, which I appreciated.

Unlike traditional online shopping (which usually ends with me staring at 18 open tabs and buying nothing), Wantable didn’t overwhelm me or my wallet. I had five full days to try everything on at home and decide what to keep. No weird lighting, no rushed dressing rooms. And I didn’t have to pay full price upfront or worry about return shipping.

The process:

  • Take a quick quiz to show your real-life stylist what you like (and don’t)
  • They curate a box of seven activewear pieces that can all mix and match together
  • You try them on at home and keep what you love
  • If you keep five or more items, you get 20% off your entire order
  • The $20 styling fee goes toward anything you decide to keep—and returns are easy

While browsing their site, I also noticed that Wantable offers Style and Sleep & Body Edits if activewear isn’t your thing, which I immediately bookmarked for later. They’re also always dropping exclusive edits and promos, so naturally, I went full coupon queen and signed up for texts. They had me hook, line, and sinker.

What came in my Wantable Active Edit

Opening my Wantable box felt like a little treat. Inside were three coordinated activewear sets and a cozy pullover—basically, a full wardrobe refresh in one go. I received:

  • A leggings + sports bra set
  • A leggings + long-sleeve top set
  • A matching zip-up jacket + sweatpants set

Everything was neatly folded with a “Styled for Kaia” sticker on the tissue paper. It’s a small detail, but it made the whole experience feel thoughtful and personal.

Most of the pieces fit true to size and aligned with my usual preferences. The only exception was the sweatpants. I tend to like a looser fit, and these ran a little more fitted. But otherwise, the colors, silhouettes, and overall vibe were totally me. The quality was also impressive. I recognized pieces from Free People Movement, which I already love, and discovered a new favorite brand: Interval. One pair of Interval leggings had that buttery-soft feel that’s perfect for barre or errands, while another offered more compression—ideal for strength training or running. And, potentially the thing I’m most excited about, Wantable introduced me to a sports bra unicorn: flattering, supportive, and comfortable enough to wear all day (yes, all three).

Is Wantable worth it?

One hundred percent. I already know I’ll be wearing these pieces for way more than workouts—they’re perfect for travel, errands, lounging, and even casual dates. It feels like I’ve finally upgraded my activewear wardrobe in a way that makes me feel put together, even when I’m just running out for milk. The price points were comparable to other high-quality activewear brands I’ve shopped, but the 20% discount for keeping five or more items made the final total way more budget-friendly.

Instead of throwing on whatever leggings I can find, I now have intentional, stylish sets that I actually want to wear—and that work just as hard as I do. For anyone who’s picky about fit or overwhelmed by shopping (hi, it’s me), Wantable makes it easy to build a go-to wardrobe without overspending or endlessly scrolling.

If you:

  • Work out regularly
  • Live in athleisure
  • Hate the decision fatigue of online shopping
  • Want to feel confident in what you’re wearing every day

… then yes, you should absolutely give the Wantable Active Edit a try.

Pro tip: Be as detailed as possible in your quiz (and definitely link your Pinterest board!). The more your stylist knows about your style and lifestyle, the more spot-on your box will be.
