To most, the start of a new year signals new resolutions, but to me, a new year simply means new fashion trends. Walking through 2025 with updated, polished style feels like a universal resolve, and as I always say, great style begins with a few great accessories. Though we may be able to get away with replacing our bags less often, swapping your everyday tote or experimenting with a new bag trend is one small but mighty step toward revamping your style for the long haul.

Across my For You Page, I’ve seen a steady incline of folks rediscovering their personal style; video after video of bright, eclectic pieces that totally negate the minimalist movement that many have closely followed over the last few years. As a maximalist myself, I revel in the return of individualistic influence; however, not at the expense of my minimalist wardrobe, and it appears as though brands may feel the same. Sprinkled throughout 2025’s early, maximalist-forward runways were functional, everyday handbags nestled in the crook of every model’s arm: proof that not all practically is lost this season.
Keep reading for the six bag trends that are set to take over 2025.
1. Medicine Bags
Though now mostly out of commission for their intended use, medicine bags were originally used by doctors to carry medical supplies to and from patients’ homes. The bag’s return—solidified by brands like Miu Miu and The Row back on September’s spring ’25 runways—was welcomed by fashion-goers after years of carrying bags that seemed to hardly hold anything more than lipstick.
2. Suede Bags
Call me a sucker for suede. After coming off of the success of suede’s “biggest fall yet,” it’s no wonder the trend is predicted to continue well into 2025. Though we’ve seen a majority in varying shades of chocolate brown, it’s looking like the biggest contender in this year’s competition is shaping up to be swaths of grey.
3. Ivory Bags
However hesitant I am to wear white is lost the second I lay eyes on a cream-colored bag. There’s something about the ivory finish that has me in a complete and utter chokehold. While a white bag can be seen as rather simple, designers and fashion-enthusiasts alike see the potential for this new(ish) trend to act as a palette cleanser to the many seasons of carrying color-forward handbags.
4. Belted Bags
Possibly the most influential accessory to come out of 2024 was the studded belt, so it’s no surprise that designers would opt to extend the same success through belted bags. If you keep up with fashion news, you know that Miu Miu’s Aventure Nappa Bag is of the season’s most coveted, but don’t worry if you can’t spare the $4,000. There are plenty of affordable, equally covetable options to go around, starting at just $82.
5. East-West Bags
Although not entirely new to the scene, East-West bags, with their distinct, horizontal shape, are ramping up to be one of the year’s hottest bag trends. The stretched-out silhouette takes after the popular baguette style we saw a few years ago—only this time around, it has a lot more potential for day-to-night wearability.
6. Brown Bags
If you haven’t heard, mocha mousse was just announced as the color of the year (an announcement that comes as a pleasant surprise after last year’s peach fuzz debacle). For once, it appears as though we’ve been operating ahead of the trend curve, stocking up on cocoa-colored apparel and accessories ahead of Pantone’s official announcement. I never thought I’d see the day where I’d choose brown over black, but hey—new year, new me.
