Finding the right pair of jeans is like finding a needle in a haystack. From fits that aren’t quite right to silhouettes that aren’t flattering enough to want to reach for, for years, I’ve felt like my perfect pair of jeans just hadn’t been found—that is, until my recent stroke of luck.
If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that shopping for denim isn’t for the faint of heart. With so many styles and washes to choose from (and new ones trending what feels like every day), it’s no wonder we often defer the search; however, considering how critical of a part they play in our wardrobes, there comes a time when you can no longer delay the inevitable. Realizing my time was up, I set out to tackle the daunting task once and for all. After trying on dozens of pairs, I finally found the one: Everlane’s Way-High Curve Jeans.
My Review on Everlane’s Way-High Curve Jeans
This time last year, I snagged my first pair of barrel jeans. The divisive style, marked by a wide leg and tapered ankle, has been around for decades, but didn’t rise to popularity until recently. Naturally, being the trendsetter that I am (humblebrag), I was the first in line to purchase a pair. Sadly, each time I put them on, something felt off. Although I eventually wrote the style off entirely, a part of me still yearned for a similar shape—just less “bow-legged,” if you will. That’s when I stumbled upon the jeans.
Although they’re not labeled as a barrel jean, they still feature a less-intense version of the shape. My hesitancy to step back into a pair of cylinder-shaped jeans dissipated within seconds of slipping into Everlane’s version. The difference? Instead of featuring all-over volume, their curve effect is isolated to the outside of the pant leg, making them a bit more subtle (and infinitely more flattering). Put simply, these wear like your average straight-leg jeans, but with a pinch of volume.
Sizing
If you’re looking for the perfect size in Everlane’s Way-High Curve Jeans, I’d recommend sizing down a size for a classic fit, and sizing up for if you want a more relaxed fit. Since I wanted a looser fit in the waist, I opted for one size up, although I could have easily stuck with my usual size since they run slightly large. These jeans are made up of 98% cotton and 2% elastane, meaning they have pretty minimal stretch, so keep that in mind when choosing your size.
How I Styled Them
Though you can style these with just about anything (the beauty of a good pair of denim), the rule of thumb I follow when choosing shoes is: the wider the pants, the slimmer the shoe. I like to offset the voluminous shape of these jeans with a pointed bootie or a slim-fit loafer. And when it comes to choosing the right top, the same rule applies: I opt for something a bit more fitted in order to highlight my waist while balancing the extra volume below.
Here, you can see that I’ve decided to follow said rules; however, since my top was feeling a bit simple, I wanted to add an oversized layer over top. As a final step, I found it imperative to add a belt in order to break up the tonal look and create definition at my waist. While I chose to stick to darker colors to complete the look, you could easily swap for a top in a lighter shade, too.
