It’s hard to say if it’s influenced by the part of us that loves nothing more than chatting with the girls or the part of us that considered an English class Socratic seminar the highlight of the school year, but we are absolutely obsessed with book clubs here at The Everygirl. Dua Lipa’s, Reese Witherspoon’s, Jenna Bush Hager’s—if a celeb has dabbled in the book club world, we have jumped on board. But the one thing missing from all of these spaces is the connection that truly makes a book club what it is. I mean, we obviously all want to read good books, but if there isn’t a group of gals waiting on standby to fangirl when the two main characters finally kiss, what is it even all for?
Of course, we’ve all tried to host our own book clubs, but between the burden of hosting, trying to get all your friends on the same schedule, and the amount of money it actually costs to cook dinner for ten, those efforts always seem to lose momentum. We dreamed of a way to connect with the thousands of readers out there who love books as much as we do—in a place where we can geek out over buzzy reads, debate our dream movie adaptation castings, and engage in live discussions. Then we thought, oh wait, we can make that. And The Everygirl Book Club was born.
What is The Everygirl Book Club?
The Everygirl has been recommending and reviewing books for years, delivering our unfiltered opinions on what’s worth your time—from the buzzy books TikTok can’t shut up about to debut authors you have to know. After years of connecting with our readers through a shared love of books, we were craving a space where we could hear more directly from you and, instead of just telling you what we’re reading, actually read together. So welcome to our cozy corner of the internet where you’ll still find all the relatable, informational, and fun content you know and love from The Everygirl, but now we get to talk exclusively about our favorite things… books.
The Everygirl Book Club is a monthly book club with a reading pick (carefully vetted and chosen by yours truly), which we’ll all read together, chitchatting in our Instagram broadcast channel while we binge, culminating in our monthly live book club discussion. Between meetings, you can also look forward to plenty of book recommendations and hilariously relatable bookish content (not to toot our own horn).
More than anything, The Everygirl Book Club is a community by readers, for readers. Whether your 2026 resolution is to read just one book or you need more people to send the hundreds of BookTok videos your friends are sick of you forwarding, The Everygirl Book Club is here for you. It’s not just a sticker on the cover of a book—it’s a place to make real connections with like-minded women. But yes, we do have adorable stickers, too.
Meet Our Book Club Hosts
If you’re ever scrolling our Entertainment section or pursuing the book club Instagram, wondering who is behind all this fabulous content…hi! It’s us! As two people whose Slack messages are pretty much exclusively rants about the books we’re reading, we’re absolutely thrilled to bring that same energy to The Everygirl Book Club. You’ll definitely see our faces all over social media, and we can’t wait to connect in real time during our monthly meetings, but until then, here’s a little bit about us:
Garri Chaverst, Senior Managing Editor
Garri, fearless leader of The Everygirl editorial team, is our resident fantasy expert. If you’ve ever stalked her on Goodreads, you may notice she’s reading seven books at once. As a mood reader who won’t hesitate to DNF a book if the vibes are even slightly off, this is entirely her prerogative. She’ll start a few books until one becomes so engrossing she simply forgets the others exist. Past books that have been able to do just that include anything by Ali Hazelwood, The Unmaking of June Farrow, The Second Death of Locke, and Throne of Glass. She primarily reads on her Kindle, often while her absolutely adorable baby naps in her other arm.
Lauren Blue, Assistant Editor
Lauren’s preferred genre is sad-girl lit fic books whose haters will accuse of having absolutely no plot. Who needs a plot when you have impeccable character development, people? When she’s not reading about two characters who are hopelessly in love but have zero communication skills, she loves a moody psychological thriller with a plot twist or a dark academia fantasy. Don’t worry, though—she still absolutely eats up a romance or romantasy moment here and there. She worships the ground Sally Rooney walks on (quotation marks be damned!), has a newfound obsession with Nathan Hill books, and, like every other girl on the internet, will never miss an Emily Henry release. Her favorite books of all time are the Neapolitan Novels by Elena Ferrante, but she’s always on the quest for a new number one.
Our January Book Club Pick: The Compound
When we heard our January book club pick described as “Love Island meets The White Lotus,” we were immediately hooked—and trust us, that intrigue lasted until the very last page. The Compound, which just won a Goodreads Choice Award for Best Science Fiction, follows Lily, who wakes up in a remote compound in the desert surrounded by other reality show contestants. They must couple up and complete challenges for luxurious rewards, but as the competition grows tougher, so does the price of survival.
Lily can’t tell what’s real and what’s for show, and she’s no longer sure what she’ll have to sacrifice to win the prizes she desires most. The book is packed with expertly crafted tension, and without spoiling anything, it is ripe for book club discussion. Let’s just say your highlighter will need a day off after this one. Whether you’re a romance reader or gravitate toward something a little more thrilling, this book truly has something for everyone, and we can’t wait for the conversations it will spark.
Lily wakes up on a remote desert compound, alongside 19 other contestants competing on a massively popular reality show. To win, she must outlast her housemates to stay in the Compound the longest, while competing in challenges for luxury rewards. When the unseen producers raise the stakes, forcing contestants into upsetting, even dangerous situations, the line between playing the game and surviving it begins to blur. If Lily makes it to the end, she’ll receive prizes beyond her wildest dreams—but what will she have to do to win?

Our meetings will take place on the final Thursday of every month, where we’ll dive deep into every thought, theory, and feeling about the book—gently guided by discussion questions we’ll send out the week prior so you have plenty of time to gather your thoughts.

- The contestants aren’t allowed to talk about life outside of the compound, leaving Lily to fill in the blanks of what little information she gleans from her competitors. At times, she reduces everyone to their looks (frequently commenting that she is one of the “prettiest” girls in the house), and at others, she imagines everyone to be much smarter and more successful than she is. Over time, we learn the truth behind Lily’s imagined characterizations. What does this reveal about Lily’s own self-perception?
- The early days in the compound are kind of glamorous. The group works together to win rewards and on their individual tasks, slowly filling the house and living in relative paradise. But when Lily first arrived, we saw the house in complete disarray—a mess left by the previous season’s contestants. At what point did it become clear to you that this group’s period of bliss was going to be short-lived?
- When Tom and Andrew became the compound’s de facto leaders, it seemed like everyone else in the group just went along with it—why do you think that is? What was it about Tom and Andrew that made everyone fall in line?
- Tom is clearly the villain of the story, but he and Lily have some similarities. They’re both obsessed with physical rewards and eventually turn to violence in pursuit of them. At what point, if any, do you think Lily crosses the line in terms of what she’s willing to do for the rewards?
- Lily’s plan is to be the last contestant standing and then stay in the house as long as possible—forever, even. She tries to rope Andrew, Candice, and Sam into her plan, and for a while, they’re all on board. If they had stuck to the plan, do you think it could have worked out for them?
- Lily is ultimately the last contestant standing at the compound. She spends a significant amount of time having her every whim catered to. Initially, she believed this outcome would solve all of her problems. Why didn’t it work out the way she envisioned?
- The producers quietly dictated how life in the compound worked. What influences or pressures in the real world guide our decisions in similar ways, even if we don’t always notice them?
- Do you think the compound changed the contestants? Or did it just bring out qualities that were always in them?
- In what ways does our world mirror the compound? Think about the pressure to “couple up” in order to be successful, the constant chase for physical “rewards” only to feel disillusioned once we get them, and the way we grow apathetic toward our environment—leaving the mess for the next “group of contestants” to clean up.
- How did you feel about the ending? Did you wish we learned what happened after the compound? Or did you like how it was left up to interpretation?
