If it were up to me, I would spend my entire life living in a hotel as a modern-day 22-year-old Eloise at the Plaza. And if I’m getting really picky designing this fictional life, unlike Eloise (no shade to her—she’s fabulous), I wouldn’t just stick to one place. I would gallivant around the globe, enjoying the most luxurious hotels the world has to offer. There’s something about staying in a nice hotel that just feels like peak relaxation. Skeptics might say, “Well, duh. You’re on vacation.” But IMHO, we have an equal combination of vacation and the hotel to thank. Taking a blissful everything shower or bath, cuddling up in a plush bed with the AC blasting (seriously, why are hotels always freezing?), ordering room service, and enjoying it in bed with an iconic rom-com on the TV—you can’t tell me that doesn’t sound like a perfect evening.

Unfortunately, little things like reality and my budget get in the way of living out my Suite Life fantasy, but that doesn’t mean hotel-esque living is entirely out of the question. If you can’t go on a trip, why not bring the hotel to you? If you, like me, don’t have any travel plans this spring but are craving that hotel vibe, keep scrolling for our favorite hotel-inspired bedroom ideas to make your space feel like an elegant, 5-star stay.

1. Upgrade your bed

This is arguably the most transformative step when taking your bedroom from fine to Four Seasons. I mean, think about it: The bed usually takes up the majority of a hotel room, so it’s a pretty essential aspect. So if you want to give your own bedroom that hotel feel, now is the time to invest in the bed of your dreams. A fluffy duvet, down pillows, and high-quality sheets are key to getting the best night’s sleep of your life.

2. Clean up your space

I don’t know about you, but if I walked into my hotel room for the first time to find dirty laundry on the floor and an unmade bed, I would immediately turn around and head back to the lobby with some questions. So, if you want your room to be up to hotel standards, you need to make sure it’s clean and organized. This is a great opportunity to clear out your room and closet of anything you don’t use anymore, ensure everything has a place, and take a more minimalistic approach to your space.

3. Turn your bathroom into a spa

There’s nothing better than walking into a hotel bathroom for the first time and seeing it’s completely decked out with bougie hair and body care products from a brand you’ve been dying to try. I’m not saying you should throw your budget out the window and replace your entire shower lineup with extravagant products. However, treating yourself to a fancy new body wash can make a huge difference in your overall shower routine. Another important part of a hotel bathroom is, of course, fluffy towels and a plush robe. They truly elevate your shower experience to a spa-like ritual. And to top it all off, clean off your countertop and accessorize with some chic bathroom organizers to keep it all neat.

4. Re-create a turndown service

This completely free ritual will transform your nighttime routine. The idea is simple: Act as your own turndown service by using simple steps to ready your room for bed. For example, take the decorative pillows off your bed and fold down your duvet, dim the lights, grab a glass of water for your bedside table, set your alarm, or lay out a book to read before you fall asleep. To add some ambience to the room, you could even use a linen spray or light a candle. I like to do all of this before showering and doing my skincare routine, so when I return to my room, it feels like a little magical sleep fairy came and got it all prepped and ready for my slumber.

5. Light a fancy candle

For the past year, I have been knee-deep in PerfumeTok, and my eyes have been opened to the importance of scent when curating a specific vibe. If there is anything I’ve learned from my time on the fragrance-lover side of TikTok, it’s that you can be transported to a certain place just through scent. Whether you wish you were relaxing at a beachside spa retreat or just want that fresh, crisp scent that hotel lobbies always seem to have, there is a candle for you.

6. Treat yourself to breakfast in bed

I love breakfast food, and I know it’s (allegedly) the most important meal of the day, but waking up and immediately having to cook something for yourself feels the opposite of relaxing some days. If you’re really trying to treat yourself, adopt the hotel lifestyle by stocking up on an array of delicious premade breakfast items, like muffins, yogurt parfaits, or—my personal favorite—frozen croissants from Trader Joe’s. Then grab your breakfast coffee or tea, walk yourself right back to bed, and enjoy a good old-fashioned breakfast in bed—crumbs be damned!

7. Indulge in some self-care

Taking intentional time out of your day to have a moment for yourself is often easier said than done. But while on vacation, we give ourselves permission to do just that, and that’s probably part of the reason hotels have come to symbolize ultimate relaxation in my mind. So, to infuse your home with that same energy, splurge on something with the sole purpose of brightening your day. Maybe that’s a new matching pajama set, fresh flowers, or a face mask—whatever it is, pamper yourself with some self-care while you pretend you’re actually on vacation.
