Every now and then, a food trend takes the internet by storm, captivating our social media feeds and dominating our cravings. We’ve seen it happen with Swedish candy, cucumber salads, and cookies from Crumbl. But only one trend has made me seriously consider buying a plane ticket just to get a taste, and that is The Nitro Bar.
Sure, I have plenty of cute, delicious coffee shops nearby, but there’s something special about The Nitro Bar, based in Rhode Island, that has me utterly fixated. Whenever they post a video launching a new drink—past examples include a blueberry latte and an orange vanilla matcha—it spreads like wildfire online, with people scrambling to recreate it without making the trek to Rhode Island. If I ever find myself even remotely close to a Nitro Bar location, I’m heading straight there to try their creations firsthand. But for now, I’ll enjoy my silly little parasocial relationship, following their TikToks from afar. To cope, I’ve turned to experimenting with copycat coffee recipes to capture some of that magic at home.
If you’re also drooling over the viral coffee shop on your FYP, here are 10 coffee recipes inspired by The Nitro Bar to try out at home:
1. Blueberry Latte
Ingredients:
- 1½ cups fresh blueberries
- ¼ cup white sugar
- Ice
- 1 cup milk of choice
- 2 shots of espresso
The Nitro Bar blueberry latte has completely taken over the internet this summer. The unexpected pairing of blueberry and espresso sounds a little weird at first, but trust me, you will see how incredible it is when you try it. It’s an iconic combo, comparable to peanut butter and jelly or a burger and fries.
2. Dirty Wafer Latte
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon chocolate syrup
- 2 shots of espresso
- Ice
- 1 cup milk of choice
- Sprinkle of cocoa powder
Straight from The Nitro Bar itself, this coffee recipe is as close to the real deal as you can get without hopping on a flight. I love a good mocha, so I’m obsessed with Nitro Bar’s take on it. It’s a simple recipe that uses ingredients you likely already have, so you can make it ASAP without a trip to the store.
3. Strawberry Matcha Latte
Ingredients:
- 1 teaspoon matcha powder
- ¼ cup hot water
- ½ tablespoon strawberry syrup
- 1 cup oat milk
This strawberry latte might be the most aesthetic drink ever, and the taste lives up to the looks. It’s the same process as making a regular matcha latte, but all you need to do is mix some strawberry syrup with the milk before combining it with the matcha.
4. Orange Vanilla Latte
Ingredients:
- ½ tablespoon orange syrup
- ½ tablespoon vanilla syrup
- 1 cup oat milk
- 2 shots of espresso
Orange and vanilla are classic flavor combinations, but if you’ve never tried them with the addition of espresso, you’re missing out. Who doesn’t love an excuse to drink a grown-up version of a creamsicle to kickstart their morning?
5. Watermelon Lemonade Matcha
Ingredients:
- 1 cup watermelon chunks, blended and strained
- Ice
- ½ cup lemonade
- ½ cup prepared matcha
The Nitro Bar has far more than just lattes that I’m dying to try, and this watermelon matcha lemonade is one of them. I can’t think of anything more refreshing on a hot day, and this copycat recipe is filling the Nitro Bar-shaped hole in my life.
6. Strawberry Milk Latte
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon strawberry syrup
- 1 cup milk of choice
- Ice
- 2 shots of espresso
For the easiest way to make the strawberry milk necessary for this coffee recipe, simply mix up a splash of Nesquick strawberry syrup with your milk of choice. If you’re feeling extra ambitious, you can also whip up an easy homemade strawberry sauce by reducing fresh strawberries and sugar on the stove. Whichever method you choose to make your strawberry flavoring, this latte is absolutely delicious.
7. Ginger Citrus Latte
Ingredients:
- 2 shots of espresso
- 1 teaspoon ginger syrup
- Ice
- Juice from half an orange
- 1 cup milk of choice
If you’re feeling adventurous with your coffee order, this Nitro Bar coffee recipe is the one to try. You’re not going to find it at your local coffee shop, and it’s so much more fun than your everyday vanilla latte (though I love those, too!).
8. Cherry Vanilla Latte
Ingredients:
- 1½ cups fresh cherries
- ¼ cup white sugar
- Splash of vanilla extract
- Ice
- 1 cup milk of choice
- 2 shots of espresso
If you’re a true Nitro Bar stan, you know they just announced their new latte flavor, cherry vanilla, which is launching September 13. I have faith that one day I’ll be able to try it in person, but until then, I can relish the fact that with this recipe, I have my hands on a cherry vanilla latte even earlier than the most dedicated Nitro Bar patrons.
9. Blueberry Lemonade
Ingredients:
- ¼ cup hot water
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
- ½ cup fresh blueberries
- ½ cup cold water
- Juice of one lemon
- Ice
As the coffee shop that popularized the blueberry latte, Nitro Bar has introduced plenty of other blueberry drinks on its menu, including a blueberry lemonade. If you can’t swing a trip to Rhode Island anytime soon, this delicious homemade version will satiate the craving.
10. Neopolitan Latte
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon chocolate syrup
- 2 shots of espresso
- Ice
- 1 cup strawberry milk
Nitro Bar has done it again with an original coffee creation that literally makes my mouth water through the screen. A latte inspired by Neapolitan ice cream? The creativity is never-ending. Grab a jug of strawberry milk from the store or mix up your own with a homemade strawberry syrup to take this tasty treat to a new level.
