Carving out space for quality time with your partner is key to keeping your relationship strong. And while we love a good old-fashioned date night as much as the next person, there’s nothing like a romantic getaway to help you reconnect and really focus on each other. Just imagine you and your love exploring new places, sleeping in or staying out, dressing up (or not at all…), fine dining, sipping cocktails, and creating shared memories and experiences. Sound like just what you and your partner need? First things first: You’ve got to decide where to go.

If planning a whirlwind getaway to Paris or Venice isn’t in the cards (or, ahem, budget) right now, you’ve still got plenty of options. There are tons of beautiful cities right here in the U.S. that would be perfect for a romantic getaway. Read on for some of our favorite options.

1. Santa Barbara, California

There’s a reason Santa Barbara is known as the American Riviera. Surrounded by gorgeous Mediterranean-inspired architecture and perfectly sunny weather, you’ll feel like you’ve escaped to the coast of Spain without having to get out your passport. Spend your days strolling through the city and exploring its impressive landmarks, art galleries, museums, and more. Then cap off your evenings with a sunset picnic on the beach or dinner at one of Santa Barbara’s fabulous restaurants. For a sophisticated stay, book a room at the Hotel Californian, which boasts Moroccan-inspired rooms and an unbeatable location.

2. Aspen, Colorado

For the nature-loving couple, it doesn’t get much more romantic than the majestic scenery of Aspen, Colorado. Although it’s best known as a skiing hot spot, the mountainside town has plenty more to offer for a couple’s getaway any time of year. For spectacular views, ride the gondola up to the top of Aspen Mountain, where you can enjoy dinner at the 11,200-foot summit. In town, you’ll find plenty of boutique shopping, spa experiences, and delicious dining options to fill your time. For the true Aspen experience, stay at the Hotel Jerome, a 134-year-old landmark that’ll give you a taste of those historic Old West vibes with all the modern amenities you could want.

3. Sedona, Arizona

If stargazing, couple’s massages, and trekking through red-rocked landscapes sounds like your idea of a perfect romantic getaway, Sedona is the place for you. Be sure to pack your hiking boots because you won’t want to miss seeing sights like Cathedral Rock and Devil’s Bridge up close. After the sun sets, bring a blanket and a bottle of wine for a nighttime picnic under a dazzling star-filled sky. There are tons of accommodation options to choose from in Sedona, from secluded casitas to luxurious resorts, but L’Auberge de Sedona is one of the best options for a romantic stay.

4. Charleston, South Carolina

There’s nothing like experiencing some classic Southern charm with your love, and Charleston certainly has no shortage of that. After a long, lazy Southern breakfast, get out and enjoy the nearby beaches or take in the sights if it’s a bit too chilly. Daytime historical walking tours evolve into romantic sunset strolls amongst pastel-colored homes. You can complete your day with an incredible, elevated dining experience at Circa 1886 Restaurant. For a more casual dining experience, don’t miss Nigel’s Good Food, a northern Charleston staple for comfort food. While in town, stay at the Renaissance Charleston Historic District Hotel in the heart of the city. Luxury and Southern charm combine in the spacious rooms, local art displays, and relaxing outdoor saltwater pool.

5. Sonoma, California

For wine lovers and romantics alike, Sonoma is a no-brainer. Indulge in incredible vineyard tours and wine tastings, luxurious dining experiences, and pampering spa services in wine country, just 30 miles north of San Francisco. While in Sonoma, stay at the iconic MacArthur Place Hotel & Spa, which provides couples with an intimate escape, nestled on six gorgeous acres and boasting the original charm of its 19th-century Victorian roots. Offering farm-fresh dining experiences and even a Garden Spa Suite that includes a romantic outdoor tub and shower, its idyllic charm and great location make it a perfect option for a romantic getaway.

6. Cape Cod, Massachusetts

There’s so much to love about charming Cape Cod. Dotted with quaint cottages and serene beaches, this New England getaway makes for a quiet and romantic couples’ escape. When you’re not enjoying coastal walks, eating local seafood, and soaking in the sun along the Cape, retreat back to the Chatham Inn to sip wine by the fireplace and relax in luxuriously appointed rooms. End your day with an incredible meal at Cuvée, an ultra-fine dining restaurant helmed by Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef Isaac Olivo.

7. New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans is the perfect blend of history, charm, romance, cuisine, and cocktails. Couples who love to party will revel in the never-ending nightlife on Bourbon Street, while blues aficionados can spend slow afternoons or evenings listening to local musicians on Frenchman Street. Gorge on the best Cajun and Creole food in the country and take incredibly engaging history tours—even haunted ones, if that’s your thing! While in NOLA, indulge in the luxury of The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans, located at the center of it all. The hotel has a gorgeous courtyard, the city’s largest spa, and gorgeous views overlooking the French Quarter.

8. Kauai, Hawaii

Hawaii’s fourth largest island, also known as The Garden Island, Kauai is ideal for couples looking to bask in some of the most gorgeous scenery in the country (and world!). Tropical waterfalls, mountains, cliffs, and rainforests will almost make you forget you’re still in the U.S. For a truly unforgettable experience, book an Airbnb, like this oceanfront penthouse, for the duration of your stay. You’ll feel like locals and enjoy lots of privacy.

9. Amelia Island, Florida

Sprawling beaches, gorgeous sunsets, and island vibes await you on Amelia Island, one of Florida’s barrier coast islands. Home to some of the country’s most beautiful, luxurious resorts like the Omni Amelia Island, the city offers a coastal escape from your day-to-day experiences as a couple including boating, kayaking, water sports, award-winning golf courses, and incredible dining options. It’s a beautiful place to visit year-round (temps are still in the mid-60s in the winter) and only a 30-minute drive from Jacksonville International Airport.

10. Asheville, North Carolina

For the outdoorsy couple, Asheville, North Carolina is a gorgeous mountainside destination nestled amongst the famed Blue Ridge Mountains. You can hike amongst picturesque scenery, stroll through the decadent gardens at the Biltmore Estate, and enjoy romantic dinners in the bustling downtown area. While in Asheville, stay at The Omni Grove Park Inn, a breathtaking golf resort that looks straight out of a storybook. Cozy up by the fireside with your love, play a round or two of golf, book a spa reservation, and enjoy panoramic views of the mountains that surround you.
