One thing you need to know about me: I love the holidays. I wait all year for the moment I can pull all my carefully packed boxes out of storage and commence hanging garlands, wreaths, bows, and twinkling lights across every surface. As you can imagine, I have quite the collection of holiday decorations already, but I always like to do some shopping ahead of the season for a few new additions. For someone who adores holiday decorating as much as me, however, the biggest challenge is always sticking to a theme. If left unchecked, I could easily fill up a cart with decorations I’ve deemed too cute to pass up—without regard to whether they actually match or go with what I already have. But to create a cohesive look (and stay within a reasonable budget), going in with a strategy is key.
If you also struggle with narrowing down your choices and finding holiday decor that actually feels like you, I’m here to help. I’ve curated a bunch of holiday decorations based on different styles, so you can easily find festive decor that fits your vibe. Keep scrolling for your personal holiday decor inspo, based on your aesthetic:
Cozy Traditional
If the holiday season makes you think of plaid patterns, rich shades of red and green, and wreaths in every window, traditional is definitely your vibe this season. These holiday decor finds are classics that will last you year after year:
Scandi Minimalism
For anyone who likes to stick to a neutral palette with their home decor, the bright reds and greens traditionally associated with the holiday season can feel a bit too garish. To stay true to your neutral-loving roots, layer in natural materials and plenty of texture for a more minimalist approach that still feels cozy and festive.
Coastal Grandma
Summer is definitely the season of the coastal grandmother, but the aesthetic can absolutely be a year-round thing. This is how I think the house from Something’s Gotta Give would be decked out for the holidays:
Moody Vintage
I love a moody, vintage-inspired look all year round, but especially as the nights get colder and longer. Deep, jewel-tone colors and rich materials like velvet, antique brass, and faux fur are the perfect complements to cozy winter evenings spent by the fire.
Colorful Retro
The holiday season brings out everyone’s inner child, so why not embrace that by playing up the bright colors and nostalgic decorations you loved as a kid? These holiday decor finds are perfect if you love a playful, non-traditional look:
Wintery Chic
If red and green aren’t your thing—or your household celebrates Hanukkah this time of year—leaning into cozy textures, wintery blues and whites, and soft lighting is the perfect way to make your home feel festive and bright. Plus, you can leave most of this decor out well into January:
