It’s that time of year when we’re all itching to pack our bags and jet off for some much-needed time away. The summer travel season isn’t quite here yet, but it’s so close we can almost taste it. Finding the right spot to relax and unwind, however, is not always easy. This is where your Enneagram comes in. Planning a vacation is time-consuming, and in a world full of beautiful destinations to choose from, it’s helpful to have some guidance on where to go. So we’ve gone ahead and made it easier by rounding up the best destinations for each personality type. Here is where you should travel this year, according to your Enneagram type.

Type 1: Napa Valley, California
Type Ones are organized and hard-working. They value structure, which can make it hard for them to fully let go and relax on vacation, but everyone needs time off. Lucky for this Enneagram type, Napa Valley is the perfect getaway for their organized and structure-loving heart. Filled with hillside vineyards and gourmet food, Napa has some of the best wine and restaurants in the country. Type Ones will enjoy a weekend itinerary of visiting vineyards such as Chateau Montelena and Robert Mondavi, as well as eating at the iconic French Laundry. Any Type One will leave Napa feeling refreshed, full, and educated on the best cabernet.
Type 2: Palm Springs, California
Type Twos are incredibly caring and generous, and they value relationships over everything. They’re likely to spend most of their time thinking about how to make other people happy and not so much time thinking about their own needs. But a vacation is the perfect opportunity to put themselves first and indulge in some self-care. Palm Springs is a desert oasis filled with beautiful hotels, fun restaurants, and hiking. Plus, it’s close to Joshua Tree National Park for more outdoorsy Type Twos. It’s the perfect setting for a mix of relaxing by the pool, venturing out on a desert hike, and taking in the mid-century architecture. Amid the luxury that is Palm Springs, a Type Two will no doubt feel relaxed and cared for.
Type 3: New York, New York
Threes are all about efficiency, results, and recognition, and they thrive in an atmosphere that is competitive. New York City is a fast-paced destination that will feel like their paradise. Threes will love admiring countless museums such as the Met and Guggenheim, strolling through Central Park, shopping on 5th Avenue, and dining at too many restaurants to possibly choose a favorite (but maybe start with Carbone). They will check off everything on their travel itinerary and have a slew of Instagram-worthy photos to share along the way.
Type 4: Santa Fe, New Mexico
Type Fours value uniqueness, authenticity, and self-expression, which is why Santa Fe is their dream vacay. This city is home to unique architecture and a creative arts hub with almost 250 galleries to explore. It also has a rich history, and having the Sangre de Cristo Mountains as a backdrop doesn’t hurt either. Type Fours will love getting lost in the art markets or reflecting and unwinding at the Ten Thousand Waves Spa. With so much creativity buzzing in every corner, it’s no wonder artists like Georgia O’Keefe called it home and why a Type Four will enjoy every element the city has to offer.
Type 5: Washington, D.C.
Curious and very perceptive, Type Fives have a strong desire to understand the world around them. No matter the destination, they will always be the first to educate themselves on it, which is why Washington, D.C. is like a playground for them. It’s a city filled with history (both in the past and in the making), and you can expect a Type Five to explore every library, museum, and national monument it has to offer. They’ll spend their days in the Library of Congress or the National Archives Museum and eagerly recount everything they learned to those closest to them.
Type 6: Key West, Florida
Type Sixes value security, belonging, and being prepared, so a low-key and relaxing vacation is just what they need. Key West is a beautiful and sunny destination, far away from the bustle of Miami, where they can feel safe and unwind. As the southernmost point in Florida, Key West is home to many sandy beaches that are perfect for soaking up the sun with a good read and a mai tai. It’s also home to some stunning coral reefs, which make for perfect snorkeling and diving expeditions. But if that’s too far outside a Type Six’s comfort zone, poolside is always a great way to spend a day.
Type 7: New Orleans, Lousiana
Type Sevens are busy, fun-loving, and spontaneous. They’re often referred to as the life of the party, and there’s no better place to enjoy a party than New Orleans. This bustling city is home to Mardi Gras but has a thriving nightlife all year long. It is brimming with vibrant music, delicious food, a complex history, and maybe a few ghosts. Type Sevens will never run out of new dishes to try (including the gumbo and beignets) or speakeasy bars to explore, and the French Quarter will be the oasis they never want to leave.
Type 8: Aspen, Colorado
Type Eights are powerful, self-confident, and willful individuals who love a challenge. Whether they are mountain experts or new to the slopes, Aspen will soon become their domain. This ski resort town makes for the perfect Type Eight vacation where they can spend days hitting the black diamonds, browsing the luxury shops, and enjoying an aprés ski. In the evenings, this Enneagram type might be found indulging at restaurants such as the French Alpine Bistro or Matsuhisa. Without a doubt, Type Eights will take advantage of everything Aspen has to offer.
Type 9: Maui, Hawaii
Type Nines are easygoing, adaptive, and patient. They live life in harmony with the world, and there’s no place that defines a Type Nine better than Maui. The island culture of surfing, tanning on the beach, exploring waterfalls, and eating lots of delicious fruit and seafood is the exact sort of bliss a Type Nine is looking for in a getaway. They don’t need much of a plan for their trip because they are comfortable going with the flow, meeting new people along the way, and coming home having had the most amazing experience on this scenic island.
