15 Essentials for Your Wedding Registry + a Giveaway

The one thing we can all agree on when it comes to weddings is that they are incredibly stressful. That’s why when it comes to a fun task like compiling your wedding registry, it can be easy to run aimlessly through Macy’s scanning everything in sight.

To avoid ending up with a dozen serving dishes, three cake stands (girl, you don’t even bake), and no flatware at all, we’ve laid out a simple checklist of the basic items all new couples should plan on having in their home together.

A few things to keep in mind:

+ Before registering for an item, ask yourself honestly if you plan on using it. If you don’t drink alcohol, do you really need a set of eight wine glasses? If you love to entertain, did you register for enough serving platters and glasses? Select items that fit what you and your fiancé have in mind for your life together.

+ Consider where you’ll be living and think about how much storage space you have.

+ When you aren’t sure how many place settings to register for, opt for at least eight.

+ When in doubt, choose white. It might seem boring or like the easy way out, but these timeless, traditional styles are versatile and will last.

+ Register somewhere that’s easy for your guests to get to. We love Macy’s for the convenience, but also the wide selection of brands and price points. Whether your guests are shopping online or in-store, their team makes the process easy. BONUS: they offer a 20% discount on anything left on your registry after the wedding.

Dinnerware

This is the chance to donate all your mismatched dinnerware and start new! Finding a simple and classic set makes the process more seamless.

Flatware

A classic set that can easily be used with takeout for Game of Thrones or when your relatives visit for the holidays.

Non-Skid Mixing Bowls

These stainless steel bowls retain temperature (perfect for marinating or mixing) and a little elbow grease won't make them slide across the counter.

Sheet Trays

Sheet pans are not just for cookies - although that sounds delicious. Investing in a good quality pan will make sure your dinners don't warp and discolor it after the first use.

Cookware Set

You know those pans you've been using since freshman year of college? It's time to say goodbye. This 11 piece set can rotate between the stove, oven, and dishwasher.

Knife Set

Pro tip: make sure your knife set includes a chef's knife, chopping knife, and bread knife.

Cast Iron French Oven

A piece that will last the length of your marriage. This french oven is the ultimate tool for slow cooking.

Glassware

Ahhh, matching glassware. It's the sign of adulthood. You don't have to toss your emblazoned pint glasses, but now you can pull out the suitable glass for guests.

Entertaining Platter

Having pieces that function and are still beautiful for entertaining, will save you a lot of space in your kitchen.

Crockpot

A crockpot is the secret to making easy dinners. Our favorite things about this one is the rotating arm that stirs for you!

Nespresso Coffee & Espresso Maker

An Everygirl favorite, the Nespresso is an investment that will drastically reduce your Starbucks bill.

Stand Mixer

Not only will it look beautiful on your counter, but a stand mixer will make cooking easier and more enjoyable. We love the Kitchenaid for all the additions that can customize your mixer.

Matching Towel Set

We recommend purchasing at least 4 of each towel. And while we love white, having a few dark hand towels for washing off makeup is always a good idea.

Bedding

Make your bedroom a haven with the ultimate splurge: fancy sheets.

Vacuum Cleaner

If adding an expensive item to your registry makes you cringe, don't worry. Friends love to get together on a gift and this will be one you'll use constantly.

Once you have this list accounted for, feel free to add more personal items that speak to your interests. Been eyeing a Chemex or a martini set? A cashmere throw or silver frame for your wedding photos? The things you would love to have, but won’t splurge on for yourself are some of the most enjoyable gifts to receive. You’ll still need to break the news to your fiancé that a Playstation won’t make the cut… no matter how *essential* it may seem.
