I’ve always been a proponent of a little retail therapy, but since starting my job as a fashion editor, I’ve had to do a 180 flip on my mentality of approaching it. I spend my days trying to find the very best things each season has to offer, which means that if I’m not careful, my apartment can turn into a sea of clothing bursting out of my closets.
When each season changes and new trends begin to come around, it’s easy to load up a cart full of the things you see and love at first glance, but I’ve found that for me, a better strategy is coming up with a wishlist and acting from there. I find the things I really can see myself wearing (ideally year-round), and then prioritize which I want most and can justify buying—and this spring’s didn’t disappoint.
I’ve never been quite so excited for spring. Maybe it’s being quarantined or maybe this spring’s pieces are just that good, but this season’s wishlist is making me want to toss everything I own and dress exclusively in the beautiful colors and silhouettes that spring 2021 has gifted us with. Want to take a peek? These are the items I’m considering (and a few that I’ve already invested in) for this season.
I'm obsessed with the beautiful pastels this spring is offering, and this dreamy mint green is at the top of my most wanted list. I feel like I personally can never have too many blazers—I wear mine constantly—and this mint one is screaming my name. Imagine walking outside on a warm, spring day with this on and an iced coffee in-hand. Could it be better? I think not.
I have a confession: I've never owned a trenchcoat—ever. I love them on other people, but have always felt they aren't exactly my style... that is, until I saw this one. I love that this trench is a little bit different and has some interesting details that draw the eye. I could see myself wearing this with everything from jeans to loungewear, like it's styled here. Less preppy, more edgy.
Heart-shaped jewelry is here with a vengeance, but nothing has stolen my heart (pun intended) like this gorgeous necklace. The full, larger heart draws extra attention to it, and I can imagine styling it both on its own and layered with my other necklaces. The best part? It's affordable.
This jacket is the single only thing I've gotten for spring this year, and I cannot sing its praises enough. I'm an absolute sucker for a gorgeous jacket, but don't make room for any that I don't think I won't wear for years to come. This gorgeous purple hue is super subtle and feminine, but it also comes in three other colors that are perfect for year-round wear. I sized up and got mine in a medium and it feels like something that would cost four times the price, and I've been wearing mine multiple times a week. Mark my words, this will sell out (and I honestly can't believe it hasn't yet).
One of the season's best trends is wide, tailored trousers, and while those don't feel super realistic for quarantine, these gorgeous pants do. I can see myself wearing these as an easy work-from-home alternate to leggings, and all summer long as a coverup over my bathing suits.
Never did I think that I'd own not one, but multiple sweater vests, but when I saw this I knew I would get an absolute ton of wear out of it. I bought a regular length sweater vest back in the fall and reach for it all the time, and love the thought of wearing this over basic white button-ups for spring for a comfortable, realistic work-from-home look.
I currently own two pairs of loafers and wear them constantly, and my eye has been on investing in a trendy, chunkier pair for a while now. I absolutely love these for the fact that they're chunky, but not too chunky like I feel like many pairs are for me to realistically get a lot of wear out of. In this white shade, I feel like I'd get wear out of them both in the spring and next fall—hello, oversized blazers!
One of my goals of 2021 was to have more fun with my clothing choices, even in quarantine, and I've been finding the place I do that the most to be with my accessories. I'm obviously into the heart-shaped trend, and these rose quartz earrings are a gorgeous, affordable way to jump on the bandwagon. Even paired with just a white tee, these would add a little something extra and eye-catching to any outfit.
I've always been a dress lover, but quarantine has made me fall even harder for them—after all, the only thing better than leggings is no pants at all. I've been looking for some dresses I feel like will stand the test of time in my wardrobe, and this one checks all of my boxes. I could see myself throwing it on all spring and summer, and then layering my jackets over it come fall.
To my above point, dresses feel like one of the most practical real-clothes options to wear right now, and this mid-length knitted dress is one of the most versatile ones I've seen—and is something we're going to be seeing everywhere come spring. It's super effortless, can withstand all of the season, and can be dressed up or down. Check, check, and check.
Eyelet lace is one of my personal favorite trends of this spring, and while I don't really feel like I'll be going anywhere to justify lace, this top feels like it's scratching the surface of the trend without going all in. I love wearing my long-sleeve bodysuits on chilly spring days with denim, and could see myself getting a ton of use out of this as an easy option to throw on if a miracle happens and I'm leaving the house.
The color of the year is absolutely going to be bubblegum pink, and what better way to incorporate it into a wardrobe than with these bike shorts? I love wearing my black ones with oversized graphic tees and sweatshirts, and these would get constant wear for me come shorts weather. I also love that Alo's bike shorts aren't too long and hit me mid-thigh. which to me feels the most flattering.
After a year of being at home, I've bought more loungewear than I ever thought I'd have in my closet, but this baby caught my eye and made me feel like I can't live without it. It's nothing insane, just a waffled long-sleeve, but I'd love to wear this come spring with just shorts and my sandals for an easy, daytime look.
