Emily in Paris is back for its fifth season, bringing Emily’s signature maximalist fashion with it. Our girl is constantly decked out in all of the patterns, colors, and prints one can imagine. And while you may look at her style and think it’s not very wearable, there are valuable lessons in maximalist fashion to be learned from the show.
For one thing, her outfits are constantly eye-catching and scene-stealing. And I think fashion girls everywhere would agree: If your look isn’t stealing the scene, why wear it at all? But I also recognize that Emily’s style isn’t for everyone. That’s why I searched the internet to find pieces that are slightly dialed down from her on-set costuming, but still have the maximalist look we know and love.
To all my girls who just love neutrals and capsule wardrobes, I’m sorry, but this one still probably isn’t for you. The options below are chocked full of animal print, bright color, stripes, plaid, polka dots, and more. But the beauty of them is that they aren’t too crazy to wear on a regular day. Pair one of these statement fashion pieces with the basics you already own, and you’ll have the perfect touch of Emily in Paris‘ trademark maximalism.
Tops
It seems to me that Emily has never met a puff-sleeve she didn’t like. Luckily for us, a statement top is probably the easiest way to make the foray into maximalism. Paired with jeans or trousers, these tops will have you earning compliments during any office day or dinner with friends.

Bottoms
The question on everyone’s mind lately is, “What do I wear instead of jeans?” Well, I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen Emily in jeans—so she’s our expert. Velvet trousers, animal-print pants, and embellished skirts are sure to get you out of any winter fashion slump.

Coats & Jackets
If you’ve been around for a minute, you know we’re big fans of statement coats here at The Everygirl. They’re the perfect way to take any otherwise basic outfit and make it fun, even when the weather app is out to get you.

Dresses & Sets
OK, we’ll admit it. Emily does some crazy things sometimes. And one of those could be her penchant for layering shirts under dresses every chance she gets. The good news is, you can draw from her vibe without overdoing it by opting for a dress in a fun pattern like polka dots, plaid, floral, or even with a feather trim. No layering required.

Shoes
Another easy way to ease into maximalist style is by wearing a statement shoe. Personally, this is my absolute favorite styling hack. On any day when I’m not loving my outfit, pairing it with an animal print sneaker or metallic ballet flat makes it 100 times better in an instant.

Accessories
Last, but certainly not least: accessories. If you’re someone who doesn’t think maximalism is for you, I promise that you’ll be pleasantly surprised by swapping out a singular accessory for a statement one. Winter is an amazing time to do this—instead of just settling for your old black beanie and scarf, grab one in a fun color or pattern. Low risk, high reward.
