A Hill I’ll Die On? This $12 Hair Removal Method Deserves a Comeback

There’s something oddly full-circle about realizing your mom was right—whether it’s about your flop ex-boyfriend or a beauty hack she swore by like hair removal cream. And on the hair removal cream front (we’ll save the relationship talk for another day), turns out it’s not just a relic of your parents’ shower. We had two of our editors test the Veet 2 Minute Hair Removal Cream. The results were surprisingly different, but both pointed to one clear takeaway. Could this nostalgic staple be making a case for itself again?
To put it to the test, two editors with opposite skin and hair types tried it: one with sensitive skin and fine hair, the other with thick, dark hair that grows back fast. Ahead, they break down the details, pros (spoiler: it’s now at Walmart), cons, and before-and-afters—plus who this cream is actually for. Here’s the 411 on the Veet 2 Minute Cream:
Between waxing appointments, the daily shaving grind, and laser packages that require months of commitment, hair removal can feel like a part-time job. Most of us want something in the middle: quick, low-maintenance, and easy on skin and wallet. Enter the depilatory cream.
A depilatory cream is a topical hair remover that uses ingredients to break down hair at the surface, so you can wipe or rinse it away after a few minutes. Most formulas work on legs, arms, underarms, and the bikini area—no razor required, no salon appointment needed, and no risk of nicks or razor burn.
The Veet 2 Minute Cream is designed as an at-home hair removal option that works in as little as two minutes (depending on your hair type, of course). It can be used across arms, underarms, legs, and even the full bikini area. It’s a versatile pick for quick touch-ups (our favorite method) or full-leg sessions. A few standout details from the formula:
All in all, it checks a lot of boxes for a low-commitment summer upgrade, all while keeping both razor burn and a hole in your wallet out of the equation. What more could you ask for?
“I have really sensitive skin—like, ever since taking Accutane years ago, my skin reacts badly to everything. My body hair is pretty light and fine, but it grows back fast, so I’m usually shaving often and dealing with some level of irritation.
I applied the Veet 2 Minute Cream to my leg and left it on for a little over five minutes (I had over a week of growth, so I wasn’t expecting miracles). I used the spatula included to remove it and applied a bit of pressure (crucial detail)—and it worked pretty well. Not perfectly in one go, but with a couple of swipes over each spot, I was set.
My skin felt really smooth afterward—definitely smoother than it does after shaving—and it had that soft, hydrated feel, which I’m guessing is from the shea butter. A razor is probably a bit faster, but I think this is a really good option if you deal with razor bumps or irritation. I’ll 100 percent keep using it for touch-ups or when my skin just needs a break from shaving.”

“My hair is dark and coarse. I get a five o’clock shadow if I skip a day, so I’m always looking for easy ways to stay ahead of it.
I applied the cream and left it on for about 6 minutes (closer to the higher end of the recommended time range for my hair type). The pump packaging made application easy, and I could see the hair lifting as I removed it with the spatula. It did take a few passes in some areas to fully clear everything, but the process itself was straightforward—no technique to master, no risk of nicks, no razor burn to deal with later.
My skin felt smooth once everything was removed, and I liked that it was something I could do quickly at home without much setup. The scent is noticeable during use, but rinses off afterward. Overall, I think it works best as a quick, low-effort option when I don’t want to commit to shaving or salon maintenance.“

After our boots-on-the-ground testing, one thing is clear: the Veet 2 Minute Cream consistently leaves skin smoother and more hydrated than a standard shave.
It’s not about replacing every other method—it’s about filling a gap. For sensitive skin, fine-to-medium hair, travel days, or weeks when you just need a break from the razor, this kind of at-home hair removal is a practical, low-effort solution. The fact that it’s affordable and easy to find only adds to the appeal. Maybe that’s the real takeaway: the brands that have been around the longest still deserve a spot in your routine, especially when they make getting ready feel just a little bit easier.
