It’s a brand new year, and with it comes a fresh start, updated goals, and a ton of new content to binge. While 2025 brought us a resurgence of thought-provoking and unique movies, 2026 is set to bring us several movies that will contend to be box office blockbusters. As for TV shows, the endless pool of streaming platforms continues to churn out new seasons of shows you love and a few original shows to get addicted to.
While the prospect of new movies and shows is exciting, tracking everything there is to watch can quickly become overwhelming. I myself have resorted to an actual spreadsheet to track it all, and even then I have trouble keeping up. If you’re feeling the same way but want to make sure you’re on top of the movies and shows everyone will be talking about, fear not. This list will help you find your way across streaming platforms and theaters for the year to come:
Netflix
Bridgerton (Season 4)
Dearest gentle readers, the time has come to declare myself unavailable and unbothered as I indulge in more of my favorite spicy Regency-era romance. With Heated Rivalry putting me in an extra-saucy mood lately, the arrival of a new Bridgerton love story couldn’t be better timed. Season four will be turning the spotlight on Benedict Bridgerton with a Cinderella-esque love story. I’m already thinking about what playful violin remixes we might get this year (a Sabrina Carpenter–coded solo, please, please, please).
Beef (Season 2)
This wildly funny, deeply profound Emmy-winning show is still one of my favorite modern TV releases over the past few years. It has striking themes around mental health and status that will still pop into my head on a random Tuesday afternoon. I’ve been thinking about Season 2 for the past couple of years, and I can’t wait to see how this A24 series brings its new ensemble—Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, and Cailee Spaeny—into the mix.
Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew
Stream on Netflix starting December 25
I didn’t know I needed a Greta Gerwig Narnia adaptation until the news came galloping into my feed last year. Now it’s the one thing I need. The idea of one of my favorite storytellers bringing her signature, heartfelt touch to Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew has me already dreaming of deep and emotional White Witch character arcs and visually immersive sets. With Daniel Craig, Emma Mackey, Meryl Streep, and Carey Mulligan already confirmed in the cast, you bet you can find me parked in my favorite movie chair, feet kicked up, waiting for this ensemble to grace my screen. According to reports, the film is slated to hit Netflix on Christmas 2026 (so we do have a bit), with a theatrical release a few weeks earlier—which I highly recommend experiencing.
America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (Season 3)
There’s nothing sweeter than watching this badass group of girls rush onto your screen to the sound of “Thunderstruck.” I’m embarrassed to admit that every time I watch the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders perform that dance, I fully cry from pride. I’m a sap, OK, and these girls slay. I can’t wait to see how the roster shapes up for the 2025–2026 season, and to cry all over again. The official release date is still unknown, but we can expect to be reunited with DCC some time this year, according to a recent Netflix post.

Elle (Season 1)

I can’t believe the year has finally come where we get to see this pink-hued icon’s origin story. It feels like forever ago I was freaking out when news broke about this insane casting for young Elle (Lexi Minetree looks so close to our original Elle Woods)! The prequel to the Legally Blonde franchise, Elle will follow Elle Woods in her high school days, showcasing the sass, smarts, and style we know and love. The official release date is still TBD, but it’s expected to hit streaming sometime this summer. Reese Witherspoon will also be executive producing!

For the first time since Game of Thrones ended in 2019, Emilia Clarke is playing the lead in a television series, and I am so excited about it. Starring alongside Haley Lu Richardson as two secretaries at the American Embassy in 1977, they are forced to be unlikely CIA operatives after both of their husbands are suspiciously killed. Trying to answer the question of why they were killed, the two uncover a world of conspiracy. The show is already being praised as absolutely “gut-wrenching” and dark, according to a recent review, so if you love the drama, this is one to add to your watchlist.

The Beauty (Season 1)
Ryan Murphy has been busy. After the viral All’s Fair and Monster: An Ed Edin Story releases, he’s back with another star-studded ensemble that might be terrible—but I’ll try it anyway, because at this point, the man knows my algorithm and I’m too weak to resist. Feeling like a The Substance–esque fever dream, this new FX series follows a beauty-aesthetic STD, its side effects, and the government conspiracy swirling around it. Yes, it’s an absolute pop-culture fever—but it’s one with Bella Hadid, Ashton Kutcher, Anthony Ramos, Rebecca Hall, and Evan Peters. So, at the very least, I’m intrigued!
The Bear (Season 5)
I don’t know how much more Carm (and me) can take of this kitchen stress, to be honest. But the show’s brilliant emotional cadence and witty one-liners have me eager for another season spent in the kitchen. I will admit that the last season left me a little unsatisfied, but I’m hopeful Season 5 will include more pivotal shifts for our beloved characters (and more episodes directed by Ayo Edebiri, please). The official release date is still under-wraps, but reports confirm we can expect to see some time this year.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale
Oh, we are so back. Even if our world sucks, at least I can count on an exciting new adaptation of Buffy the Vampire Slayer to lift my spirits. Bonus: the pilot is also being directed by recent Golden Globe winner Chloé Zhao! Set in a rebuilt Sunnydale and striving to honor the original’s legacy, this series is a continuation of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer world, led by a new generation of heroes. Sarah Michelle Gellar is confirmed to return as Buffy, with Ryan Kiera Armstrong stepping in as the new lead. An official release date is TBD, but it’s slated for sometime this year—and yes, we will absolutely be watching it.

Euphoria (Season 3)
This teen (and now adult) drama is pure visual ecstasy. Even with messy production challenges, scheduling conflicts after the writers’ strike, the tragic passing of Angus Cloud, and jumping five years ahead to account for the cast aging out of high school, I’m so excited to get lost in this world again for Season 3. Euphoria faces the creatively difficult task of re-exciting its audience four years after the release of Season 2, but I’m excited to see the new trauma Sam Levinson will haunt me and these characters with come in April.
Hacks (Season 5)
My favorite Gen-Z diva, Hannah Einbinder, is back alongside the hilarious (and recent Golden Globe–winning) Jean Smart in Hacks Season 5. If you love witty zingers about generational clashes, the comedy business, or just adore Megan Stalter and Robby Hoffman, this show is a must-watch. It’s one of my favorite ongoing series right now, and the thought that Season 5 will be the final one has me equal parts sad and excited to see how Debra and Ava’s story wraps up. We have yet to get an official release date for this one as well, but it is predicted to be sometime this year, based on previous episode timelines.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (Season 1)
A new addition to the Game of Thrones universe, this drama series dropped its pilot on January 18th, and I’m predicting major buzz among fantasy fans. Set a century before the events of the original franchise, it follows two unlikely heroes and the unstoppable foes that cross their path. While familiarity with GOT surely adds valuable context to the political history of this universe, I’m diving in anyway due to sheer curiosity and persuasion from an absolutely epic trailer. Call me naive or a fake fan, but either way, I’m going in.

Shrinking (Season 3)
Our Assistant Managing Editor, Hailey, put me on this show, and it’s been one of my favorite weeknight adventures. If you’ve ever wondered: Who is a therapist for the therapist? This heartfelt comedy drama answers with the very messy yet very human life of Jimmy Laird (Jason Segel). Season 3 will continue to explore Jimmy’s relationship with grief and loss and is set to release on January 28th. Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, and Brett Goldstein are just a few of the returning faces, with new cast member Michael J. Fox also joining the ensemble. I’m counting down the days!
Margo’s Got Money Troubles (Season 1)

Based on Rufi Thorpe’s book of the same name, this new series follows a young woman juggling single motherhood and mountains of bills. The book’s sharp wit and exploration of desire and identity have already set a high bar for this adaptation, but with a cast this good, it’s bound to live up to the hype. Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, Nicole Kidman, Nick Offerman, and more are set to star in the new series, and it is definitely one of the most enticing new releases on my 2026 watch-list—even if we have yet to get a trailer for it.

The Moment
Brat summer is forever. Following the tour for Charli XCX’s Brat, this A24 mockumentary explores fame and the chaos it brings. Packed with A-list cameos from Kylie Jenner to Rachel Sennott, the film promises a satirical, fictional take on Charli’s very real-life Brat era, possibly blurring the line between performance and reality for the singer and audience. And because it’s A24, I’m fully expecting it to be stylish, unhinged, and a little bit bonkers.
Wuthering Heights
By far one of the most anticipated releases of the year, this bold, lusty, and stylish adaptation of Wuthering Heights is already sparking major conversation online. Some fans are side-eyeing the intense turn the classic romance has taken—but I have to admit, I’m obsessed with the complete 180. One thing is clear: This version is not playing it safe. Which is exactly why I’m intrigued. A bold reinvention that doesn’t hold back on women’s sexual needs being met? Sat. Give me passion, Margot!
The Bride!
Director Maggie Gyllenhaal is helming this sci-fi retelling of Frankenstein starring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale. While we still have limited information, we know the movie is set in 1930s Chicago and will take a spin on Frankenstein lore. The images released are already giving me Wednesday meets Romeo and Juliet vibes. It’s definitely a movie to look out for when it hits theaters this spring.
Reminders of Him
2026 is giving us another Colleen Hoover adaptation, and guys, this one feels good. While I absolutely despise a trailer that gives away the whole plot in one breath, I wasn’t mad about the fact that it included visual performances by Maika Monroe, Rudy Pankow, and Tyriq Withers that felt like fresh air. Inspired by the book of the same name, Reminders of Him will follow Kenna, a young mother looking for redemption from the one mistake she can’t seem to run away from. She faces resistance from seemingly everyone—except her dead boyfriend’s best friend, Ledgar.
The Drama
Seeing as I won’t be able to attend Zendaya’s actual wedding, a fictional one with Robert Pattinson will do just fine. The premise is still tightly under wraps, but there’s clearly tension between this couple in the days leading up to their wedding. We don’t know exactly where the twists will take us just yet, but this much star power is all I need to be completely ready for it. Time will tell what drama will actually unravel, but I’m ready for all the chaos and likely heartbreak that this movie will give me.
Forbidden Fruits
My god, I cannot wait for this one. A horror-comedy starring Lola Tung, Lili Reinhart, Victoria Pedretti, Alexandra Shipp, and Emma Chamberlain, this culty, femme-horror dream is the pop-culture algorithm nightmare I am so seated for. After crying my way through years of longing with Belly in The Summer I Turned Pretty, I’m especially curious to see Tung in a whole new light… or in this case, darkness. The film follows a Free Eden employee (Reinhart) who secretly runs an underground cult in a shopping mall. But when a new hire (Tung) challenges the sisterhood, things get a little… messy (and bloody).
The Devil Wears Prada 2
Those red high heels are strutting their way back into our hearts with a new sequel for the ultra-iconic early 2000s film that first ignited my writer dreams. There’s something so fun about revisiting nostalgic films that made you, and it’s even more fun when they are reimagined to meet us in the world we are in now. In this follow-up, Miranda Priestly and Emily Charlton will be navigating the declining print media landscape… as rival executives. Alongside much of the original cast, we’ll also be meeting newcomers Sydney Sweeney, Simone Ashley, and Pauline Chalamet in this one, too!
Supergirl
Following Superman’s cousin Kara Zor-El—aka Supergirl—this new chapter offers an edgier remix of the classic Superman ethos we saw in David Corenswet’s recent film. “He sees the good. I see the truth,” Kara declares in the trailer, and that single line says it all for me. This punk-rock, 23-year-old Supergirl is definitely leaning into a much darker, more anti-hero persona, but it’s one that feels like a bold and promising redirection for our once (?) tired superhero universe.
The Odyssey
What happens when one of the greatest directors of our time takes on the greatest story of all time? I don’t know—but like the rest of the world, I’m dying to find out. Even months before it is scheduled to hit theaters, the buzz around this film is already significant. We’re definitely in for some stunning visuals, major star power, and all the grand Christopher Nolan theatrics. If you only get to see one movie on the big screen this year, let it be this one.
The Social Reckoning
Coming to theaters October 9th
As terribly corrupt as the plot is, The Social Network is such a fantastic movie. And the idea of a sequel has me ecstatic. While Jessie Eisenberg will not be returning as Mark Zuckerberg in the follow-up, Jeremy Strong is stepping into the shoes alongside Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White. We don’t know much just yet, but we do have a date and a plot—which follows Facebook engineer Frances Haugen and The Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz as they blow the lid off the social network’s juiciest, darkest secrets.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping
One of my favorite things about this movie is how fans basically manifested Elle Fanning into the role of young Effie. Based on Suzanne Collins’ recent prequel novel in The Hunger Games universe, the story follows a young Haymitch Abernathy as he competes in the arena, diving into themes of political manipulation, survival, and the harsh realities of Panem. Reports confirm that Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will be returning to this world as well (WHAT), joined by a fresh wave of star power: Elle Fanning, Ralph Finneas, Maya Hawke, McKenna Grace, and more. All in the company of a bomb trailer, I am so ready to be pulled back into the arena.
