Fall is undoubtedly my favorite season for two major reasons: the cozy movies and the wardrobe. I can’t wait to break out my sweaters once it’s cold enough to wear them, and I love revisiting beloved films like Dead Poets Society and of course, Practical Magic. The Owens sisters always find their way back to my TV screen around this time of year… as well as my closet. The day I realized that much of my fall style is inspired by the outfits in this movie is the day my life changed for the better.
Sally and Gillian sport a lot of flowy silhouettes, experiment with different textures, and love a good floral moment. With ‘90s nostalgia arguably being at its peak right now, it’s easier than ever to recreate some of the most iconic Practical Magic outfits without feeling like you’re dressing up for Halloween. If Sally Owens is your style icon, you likely have lots of fun skirts taking up space in your closet (no? just me…?). This outfit is based on one of my favorites of Sally’s from the first Practical Magic movie, and the reason I love it so much is because of its versatility. Pair a simple tank top with a moody skirt for the warmer fall days, or add a cardigan for a witchy yet work-appropriate look.

Inspired by Gilly
No one can pull off a slinky slip dress quite like Nicole Kidman as Gillian Owens. Her iconic velvet green mini is always on my mind, and this gorgeous moonstone blue look is the closest modern equivalent I could find. It’s floral, it’s feminine, and it’s super flattering. Of course, you have to pair it with tiger eye jewelry for a bit of good luck.

To spend an afternoon in your garden
Keep rosemary by your garden gate and plant lavender for luck—and look cute while doing it in this outfit. A classic, ‘90s-inspired pair of jeans give off that nostalgic factor, while the puff-sleeve top keeps you on trend. Of course we had to pay homage to one of the most memorable scenes in the movie!
